Chapter 1142: She came
Chapter 1142: She came
"Isn’t this the way where the Zhu Ancestral Home was?"
Hera smirked at Joker as she looked ahead. "It is," she said.
"You’re meeting him?! Dominic?" Joker gasped in disbelief. "Right now? Since when had you been planning this, huh?!"
"Calm down. It’s not Dominic I’m meeting." Hera rolled her eyes as she leaned back and closed her eyes. "Parked three blocks from the residence. I’ll sleep for now."
"Who are you meeting, Hera?" Joker asked as he slowed down, looking at her every three seconds. "If you don’t tell me, I’m going to turn around and go back to where we came from."
"Tch."
"I’m not kidding. This is dangerous. Meeting Dominic can raise suspicion on whoever —"
"Grandma Zhu." Hera snapped her eyes open and cast him a quick look. "I have some questions for her."
"Like?"
"Not like, but question as Hera Cruel and not as her beloved granddaughter-in-law. I can’t tell more than I already have," she remarked, closing her eyes once more. "There’s another route to go there. Follow that."
"But that’s the longer route."
"We don’t want to bump into someone."
"Like your husband?"
"Dominic hasn’t visited his elders for some time now." Her tone grew lazier. "And I don’t think he has plans to for now. Call it some family drama."
"Then who are you afraid to bump into?"
"My children."
"Don’t you keep in contact with Princess and Gray about that?"
"I do, but I didn’t ask what’s their itinerary today."
"Don’t lower your guard." Joker shook his head, fiddling with his device that was slipped on his left side while slowing down.
Hera slowly peeked through her eyes and asked, "What are you doing?"
"I need to know their itinerary. If something happened, at least we knew where to send our troops. I don’t want to see you losing your mind and biting everyone’s head off if bad things happen now," he grumbled, shifting half of his attention to the small device in his left hand.
Joker slowed down even more, having a little difficulty in doing two things at once with the lack of fingers. However, he was managing. He just needed to be a little more careful than he would usually do. Hera, on the other hand, couldn’t help but smirk.
"Thanks," she expressed quietly, closing her eyes once more. "You’re right. I’m letting my guard down too much."
"Don’t mention it."
"By the way, did you send out the order of investigation for Felice Cruel?"
"I did, but Primo is already on it. I put him in charge."
"Oh, boy."
"Wolf might not like that, but the old folk got to learn."
Hera chuckled. "Don’t be mean to Wolf just because he could do your job."
"He can do my job because he has complete fingers!" he grumbled, glaring daggers at her. "If I had all my fingers on, I would finish his full day’s work in an hour or two."
"Wow."
"Don’t wow me."
"I mean... wow."
"Tch."
As Hera and Joker bantered with half of their focus on other things, they didn’t notice the sedans driving in their opposite direction. Joker simply glanced at it, and then moved away, before refocusing his attention on the device to send Gray and Princess a message, while planting a bug in the message which would automatically plant a tracker on them the moment they opened the message.
And because of this, Hera and Joker didn’t notice that one of the people in the other car that drove past them was Dominic.

[Zhu Ancestral Residence]
[Grandma, why are you just saying this now?]
[You cannot do this to me now.]
[Don’t tell me that my divorce is a good decision because you do not want to inflict my wife on this. My wife... hah. Nevermind. She’s better off without us.]
[Somehow, I can now relate to Silas and Axel. I’m starting to hate this family. How I wished I’d had a broken one, instead of a complete one that breaks me.]
"Madam," Butler Fu called for the umpteenth time, sighing as Old Madam Zhu wouldn’t move from the rocking chair. "The Young Master has left the manor with Miss Wei."
Old Madam Zhu sighed heavily as she closed her eyes. "I told him."
"Madam?"
"I told Dominic that I killed my precious friend."
"Madam." Butler Fu walked closer to her side, looking at her worriedly. "You — you didn’t kill Felice Cruel."
"I did."
"What happened is something you didn’t know would happen."
Old Madam Zhu slowly turned her head to Butler Fu and smiled. "That is how I convinced myself for a long time, Butler Fu. But I can no longer do it when my grandson and his children are in danger. I have to warn him."
"Madam, the attacks toward the Young Master weren’t Hera Cruel’s doing."
"I’ve been following news about her since Felice’s death. And I know what that child is capable of. She attacked him when he planned to enter the jewelry business. And she would do it again." Old Madam Zhu sighed again. "I thought I could heave a sigh of relief when she’s dead, but now that she’s back, she’ll come for all of us."
Butler Fu pressed his lips, trying his best to hide the bitterness in his eyes. "I know you believe you caused Felice’s death, but I’m certain she doesn’t blame you for what happened. She will never blame you. Felice never blames the victim. She isn’t like that."
"But her child won’t believe that." Old Madam Zhu smiled subtly. "She will kill everyone involved in her mother’s death, just like how she killed everyone else. She’ll come for me."
"I’ll make some arrangements with my previous contacts." Butler Fu offered his hand to her. "You will be fine."
Old Madam Zhu shook her head. "Instead of me, tell them to protect my family instead. I’m already old and am already counting my days. I’d rather make my death meaningful by stopping everything at my death."
Old Madam Zhu slowly reached for Butler Fu’s hands, letting the latter assist him to her room. After what seemed to be forever, Old Madam Zhu reached her bedroom. She reclined on the bed while Butler Fu prepared everything within her reach.
"Butler Fu," she called as Butler Fu finished his routine and was about to leave her to sleep. "That is my last request. Do not interfere."
Butler Fu frowned but still bowed. "Yes, Madam."
With that being said, Butler Fu turned off the lights and let her night lamp on before he left. He didn’t waste a second to execute the order, no matter how much he was against it.
Meanwhile, Old Madam Zhu kept her gaze on the door before she sighed. When she was about to sleep, she heard the balcony of her room creaking open. She turned her head slowly, only to see a shadow from behind the curtain of the balcony with a gun in his grip.
’She came... just as expected.’
