Chapter 1128: Loud and proud
The woman Hera Cruel attacked was given some ice packs and tissue to wipe her nose. The officers let her stay in the office, sitting quietly in front of Officer Park’s desk while the man checked her charges.
"You were arrested for jaywalking last night?" Officer Park looked over his monitor and at the woman.
"I wasn’t jaywalking." The woman rolled her eyes, taking away the ice pack from her nose. "I was drunk, and I tripped over from the sidewalk."
Officer Park looked at her, not buying a word of it. Though he believed she probably had a drink last night since she still had a faint scent of alcohol.
"I see why you were arrested," he said, shaking his head. "You argued with the officer."
"I didn’t argue. I just told him about my rights." She shrugged. "And that fining an already ’fine’lady who is ’pretty’ drunk is an abuse of power."
Officer Park glanced at her again, holding back any comment about narcissism. "Clever."
He then glanced at her file and her arresting officer. As soon as he saw the name of the officer, he wasn’t surprised this woman was locked up. He only interacted with her for several minutes, but he could tell she was the type to argue and end up in jail.
’Though I agree with her,’he thought. ’Her arresting officer tends to abuse his power.’
"You will still be fined for the jaywalking..." Officer Park muttered as he checked her data one last time. Aside from last night’s arrest, she didn’t have any record from their system.
"I’ll still get fined after getting arrested for no reason? And end up getting beaten up by a psycho?" the woman scrunched up her nose, clicking her tongue in disappointment. "This is why some people think the law is funny."
Officer Park took a deep breath and faced her. "Please, just take this as it is. You’re not doing yourself a favor by saying all the stuff that could get you back in there."
"Freedom of speech can get you arrested too? Wow."
"Miss..." Officer Park trailed off as he glanced at her name in their record. "Miss Dominica, I’m releasing you now. Pay the fine and don’t jaywalk again."
The woman leaned forward and dawdled. "I didn’t jaywalk."
The officer shrugged. It was not worth arguing with someone like her, especially since it was not an offense for her to speak her truth.
"You can go now." He motioned his hand to the open entrance. "Pay your fine."
The woman leaned back leisurely and checked her nose first. "Do you have a napkin?"
Officer Park simply handed her a box of tissues. Since all other emergencies were being redirected to other stations as caution for the felon in their precinct. Hence, everyone didn’t have anything else to do aside from watching over the deranged high-profile felon in the station.
"Officer! Officer!"
"Gosh." The woman looked back to where the cell was. "Why is she so loud? She keeps saying she is this big shot — why get arrested in the first place?"
Officer Park remained quiet, glancing at the woman across from him. ’That’s what I wonder too.’
The officer leaned back and ignored the hot-tempered Hera Cruel, deep in thought. He crossed his arm underneath his chest, arching a brow when he sensed that the woman named Dominica was staring at him.
"Officer! If you don’t come in here, the name Hera Cruel will be engraved on your forehead!"
"You should transfer her to the mental hospital," said Dominica. "That woman is bat shit crazy. Why so proud of her name? Is Hera Cruel a celebrity or what?"
"In a way, but in a bad one." He rocked his head. "Why are you not leaving? You’re free to go."
"I’m cleaning my nose. It’s not bleeding anymore, but it still hurts."
"You don’t look that hurt."
Dominica rolled her eyes, intuitively gazing at the cell. She squinted her eyes mildly, rocking her head as if she thought of something.
"Do you have wipes?" she asked, smiling innocently at Officer Park. The latter just sighed heavily and handed her a packet of wipes from his desk.
"Leave here once you finished," he said as he slowly rose from his chair.
"Where are you going?" the woman asked, making the officer furrow his brows.
"Leave."
She frowned. "I was just about to ask if you want to grab some coffee. You’re quite cute and a little uptight. Reminds me of my husband."
Officer Park just shook his head and left the woman at his desk. He marched toward the cell, knowing he had to look after Hera Cruel until the Interpol arrived.
"Get me out of here!" Hera Cruel seethed, pulling her arm, which was cuffed at the metal bar. Her eyes blazed in anger, scaring the rest of the detainees in the same cell.
’Hera Cruel,’ the officer thought while observing the woman. ’From what I heard, she was actually a crazy person. But considering all the crimes she committed and how they were executed, it’s not that type of crazy. But more like she’s mad... like a mad genius.’
And this woman growling uncontrollably didn’t seem to fit the description of the leader of the world’s finest assassin group. He did his research the moment their station got an international notice from Interpol, signed by the president of the country.
"Officer."
Officer Park snapped his eyes and turned his head, furrowing his brows as Dominica stood beside him.
"Here," she said, giving him the packet of wipes.
"You could’ve left it on my desk," he said, but still accepted it. "Now, off you go, and don’t come back in here."
"You’re nice," she giggled, setting her eyes back on the deranged woman who called herself Hera Cruel. "Officer, are you also that proud of your name?"
"Huh?"
"That woman kept screaming her name as if it was something to be proud of. Which makes me wonder, is there anyone else in the world who is just as proud as her in carrying such a name?"
Officer Park arched a brow, staring at Dominica’s side profile. The corner of Dominica’s lips curled up before she faced him.
"I’ve never met someone who is that proud of their name. But I met a lot of people, wondering why they had to be them," she continued, smiling even more widely. "I used to wonder why they loathed their names so much, but after a while, I understood why. I hope you won’t be like that and be like her instead, loud and proud of what she believes. Even if it’s a lie."
Her smile stretched as he patted his shoulder. "I’m gonna go just as you want. I hope you don’t regret turning down my invitation for a cup of coffee. I would’ve stayed longer for you."
