Chapter 1126: Army tank

"I’m the one who stole the money, Ivy. But I’m not giving it back."

For a second, Ivy was rendered speechless. She needed a moment to wrap her head around Dominic’s blunt and short answer. Well, he did say this job would challenge her moral integrity.

"..." Ivy opened and closed her mouth, shrugging. "Okay."

She instinctively looked at Axel when the latter cast her a judgemental look. "What?"

"Nothing."

"Gosh." Ivy massaged her temple, not expecting this ’dirty’ secret so soon. "Just to be clear, this isn’t the taxpayer’s money, right? Because if it is, I would be very amazed that you stole money from the people even before you took your post. I’m being sarcastic."

"It’s Hera’s," Dominic answered as he stopped again, pushing himself to stand up. He held onto the file and sauntered towards them. He sat down in the armchair and handed her the document.

"Read that one first. I have a meeting in an hour, and I want you to know a thing or two about it," he said while checking the food Axel ordered for them. "About the thieves who wanted to steal from the thief, that includes Tiger."

"Oh..." Ivy rocked her head as she already assumed that when she heard Hera’s name. But before she could say anything, she furrowed her brows at Dominic. "I thought you’re not eating lunch on Mondays?"

"Axel’s messing with you."

Ivy frowned and glared at Axel.

The latter, on the other hand, just laughed. "What? It was fun."

"That’s the point of my files," said Dominic calmly. "You should know me more than anyone. Or at least pretend you know me that well."

Ivy nodded in understanding, continuing her meal while reading the file Dominic handed her just now. While reading, Ivy couldn’t stop her curiosity from peeking.

"Why are you messing with Hera?" she asked when she couldn’t take it anymore. "Shouldn’t you be helping her because, well, she’s Tiger’s sister?"

"There’s one thing I didn’t tell you when I hired you hours ago." Dominic swallowed down his food first before holding her gaze. "Tiger, his sister, and everyone on their side are my enemies."

"What?!"

"I’ll tell you more about it once you finish your assignment," he said. "Your brain might go on an overdrive with all the information."

Ivy’s face turned sour. "By enemies, you mean...?"

"Real ones." His answer was quick. "If you’re not up for it, you can always resign. No hard feelings."

"That’s not my point." Ivy sighed heavily. "Does that mean I’ll have to mess with him, too?"

"You don’t want to?" Dominic arched a brow. "We’ve been on the same side for quite some time. Aren’t you curious about what it would be like to be against them? I mean, they are intimidating and skilled. It’s inevitable to feel small and useless with them. And they also believe that."

He shrugged nonchalantly. "Giving them a hard time will prove that we’re not as weak as they think we are."

"Are you out of your mind?" she blurted out. "You can’t just do this because they kicked you out of their group while telling you it’s best for you."

Dominic arched a brow as he shoved a spoonful into his mouth. Axel also looked at Ivy with a knowing look.

"Though... I can’t deny that it’s annoying," she cleared her throat. "It makes me angry. He sees me as if I’m just nothing but a pretty vase, which could break if not handled with care. It’s kinda insulting, thinking he could decide for me."

Ivy drew a deep breath as she laughed. "Now that I’m thinking about it, it makes me even angrier. I hate you both."

"Eat your food and read that file. I have a meeting with the Interpol," Dominic smirked. "Elliot Dunkel needs more funding."

"Did you say you lost a few million in the past few days?" Ivy inquired before a smile turned up on her face. "Since you’re a thief and want to mess with the person I want to mess with, how about... we replenish your account? Or rather, hide it in plain sight?"

Slowly, Dominic arched a brow while the corner of her eyes creased.

"I just know a certain cheapskate who has zero financial literacy," she grinned. "He might start counting his money once a significant amount disappears."

"You’re saying...?" Dominic leaned back, squinting his eyes. "We steal some more and?"

"What I’m saying is since you’re losing money which you do not want to give up, then we let them steal," she explained. "They would think they’re doing a good job of retrieving their money, only to realize it was actually their money they’d been stealing."

"But it’s their money that’s in my brother’s account," Axel corrected. "He’s the thief here, you know?"

"Finder’s keepers." She shrugged. "The moment that money went to Dominic’s account, it’s his. I read his other file. He is paying taxes for that money. Meaning, it’s his."

"Oh."

"So?" Ivy set her eyes back to Dominic. "What do you think?"

Dominic pondered, rubbing his chin mildly. After careful consideration, he rocked his head.

"Let’s do it your way," he remarked. "Though don’t blame me if he breaks up with you."

"He already did." She grinned from ear to ear, finding this spark of excitement in her heart. "Take this as my little revenge for having my heart broken, and for thinking he could decide for me."

"Get it done today."

"Yes, sir!" Ivy smacked her lips, resuming her meal while reading the file again.

Dominic smiled in satisfaction, only to notice Axel looking at Ivy suspiciously.

"You’re a natural, are you?" Axel muttered in a suspicious tone. "Ivy, have you stolen something before? If you are, I’m questioning our friendship."

Ivy glanced at him and rolled her eyes.

"Bro, I don’t think we can trust her." Axel pointed at her, eyes on Dominic. "This is wrong. She’s a pro. That’s suspicious!"

"But I think she’s perfect for the job."

"I’m gonna need a lie detector here," Axel argued, still glaring at Ivy suspiciously. "You hurt my brother, and I’m gonna forget our friendship. I’m warning you."

Meanwhile, in the Reaper’s new headquarters, Primo was enjoying his day off in the greenhouse with a piece of classical music in the background. He lifted the teacup before him, sniffing its aroma that soothed his mind.

"Silence," he muttered in a relaxed tone. "How golden."

Primo closed his eyes and inhaled the steam from the teacup. But just as he was about to take a sip, the music stopped. His smile remained, but he knew it wouldn’t stay for long. And he was right.

"You’re a lawyer, right? A good one at that." Moose spoke, watching Primo slowly put down his teacup on the saucer. "You got a case."

"My license had been revoked many years ago," Primo smiled, trying to maintain his mood. "So, whatever this case you got for me, I can’t take it. If that is clear, please play my music. I’m trying to manage my anger issues and since Hera hadn’t been around, I thought it would be best for me to work on myself until I meet the woman."

"Elliot called. He said Hera was pulled over," Moose remarked. "Fig is already preparing to leave. The chopper will leave in ten minutes. It’ll take about five hours to reach the country, so don’t waste time."

Primo chuckled. "I get that Hera is our boss, and she calls the shot. But you guys are overreacting. She’s undercover and if she was pulled over, so what? If the sheriff wants to repossess the car, let them. It’s not like she can’t do anything about that. She’s a big girl."

"She’s not driving a car."

"What?"

Moose scratched his temple with his index. "Thing is... she was driving a freaking tank."
