Chapter 1114: Dead meat
Chapter 1114: Dead meat
"Thank you for the concern and for coming in here..." Dominic smiled at the reporters, who were invited to the private conference room to write down the articles regarding the newly elected minister, who also survived an assassination attempt.
The reporters eagerly listened to his every word, writing down notes, and mentally preparing themselves to beat other reports for questions. Dominic addressed the issue of his assassination attempts, his time in the hospital, and his decision to return to his post.
"Minister Zhu, is it true that it was your assistant who orchestrated the assassination?" one of the reporters asked when the chance came.
Dominic maintained a smile. "No."
"Then who was it?" said a few reporters in unison.
"The police are still investigating it, but my assistant isn’t purely innocent," Dominic clarified patiently. "He was blinded by promises and received unknown money from another source. He might not have been the person who orchestrated the attack, but he is just as guilty. He’s already in custody and I leave everything to the authorities."
"Minister Zhu, do you have any suspects behind this attack?"
"Minister Zhu, is it true that another assassination attempt happened while you were in the hospital?"
"Do you think it’s one of your rivals who did such a violent and cruel attempt?"
The reporters asked questions almost all at once, and even before they could get answers, they would move on to their next question. Dominic maintained a smile despite this growing chaos, raising his hand to stop them.
His action was enough to silence everyone, but not enough to stop the cameras from flashing.
"Since the investigation is still ongoing, I cannot disclose anything yet. Moreover, I trust our police departments that they were doing everything they can to uphold justice," he expressed kindly and calmly. "However, I didn’t host this conference to focus on my well-being."
"I am here to finish the inauguration I couldn’t." Dominic leaned forward, staring at the cameras solemnly. "Having to experience such a scary situation didn’t wane my determination to serve my country. If anything, my campaign and platform I promised only solidified."
"I will serve this country..."
Dominic continued with his speech with the purest and most sincere tone he could ever use. He talked as if he was simply talking to his lover, knowing this would get him more favors from the public. After all, when the assassination happened and news of his comatose spread, his public favor rose to twenty percent. It was a huge leap, with people romanticizing him as a hero. It also opened debates about corrupt politicians, the bad trying to take the good weed before it could grow, and so on.
In other words, Dominic had no problem in returning to his post as a minister. All he had to do was keep up the admiration and trust the public had bestowed upon him. Obviously, he didn’t plan to break this trust. However, he couldn’t also say he didn’t plan to use his power for personal gain. Unless he had a death wish.
"And my promise during the campaign and even now will always be the same," he added. "Or rather, I am more motivated to impose them."
The reporters slowly calmed down after listening to his lengthy speech. All they could do was smile in satisfaction, moved by his braveness and determination to serve the country. Surely, the public didn’t mistake in electing this one. It was no surprise that Dominic won a landslide because he truly had the charisma of a politician that the public would love and support.

Dominic only answered a few questions after his speech before the private conference came to an end. As soon as he exited the conference room, Axel was already waiting for him. Dominic simply offered his brother a short smile, resuming his steps through the hallway.
"That’s a nice speech," Axel pointed out, walking beside his brother. "I almost cried. Did you, perhaps, train in the casino too?"
Dominic chuckled weakly.
"Here." Axel moved the tablet in front of his brother, walking at the same pace as him. "They’re faster than I expected. It hadn’t even been a minute since you walked out of that room and they were able to release the articles about the conference."
Dominic only slowed down at his pace as he accepted the tablet. He checked the first article, skimming through it, and then moved on to the next.
"They’re fast," he commented in satisfaction. "It’s almost scary."
"The media holds a scary power."
"That’s why you need to hold a much greater power than the media," Dominic cast his brother a sidelong glance. "The public opinion is always strong, not just for politicians but also for celebrities and businesses. The media shifts public opinion easily and you need to counter that by manipulating them first. "
"I take it back." Axel clicked his tongue faintly. "You didn’t have to go to the casino. You’re the owner."
Dominic chuckled as he handed back the tablet. "What else can I say? Currently, the public opinion about me is better than good. I almost died just because I wanted to serve the country. The assassination is enough for people to think the bad guys want me dead, and their suspects would be my rivals or any corrupt officials who were threatened by my platform."
"One bad news isn’t enough to change public opinion," he continued. "It might put doubt in some people, but most of them will think it’s simply a stunt to smear my name. Someone already tried to kill me, so it won’t be a surprise if a bad article about me is released to drag my name through the mud."
"Bro, did you think of this before the inauguration?"
"The risk is high, but the benefits I’d get are worth the risk." Dominic shrugged. "I had to prepare and open routes for myself for future decisions. That’s how I always lived."
"No wonder you almost joined the trillion club before you stepped down from the company," Axel murmured, torn between admiring his brother or questioning the real nature of his brother. "Either way, you’re a minister now. Wow. I’m a brother of a minister."
"You’re the CEO of the Lyon Group," Dominic returned. "Does that make me the brother of a CEO?"
Axel grinned while Dominic chuckled. Soon, the two of them reached the exit to the parking area. The exit was already guarded by Axel’s people, handpicked by Bear. But before the brothers could leave, one of the bodyguards approached.
"Sir," called the bodyguard, earning a curious look from the two. "Someone wants to talk to you and he’s been outside."
"What do you mean, he’s outside?" Axel frowned. "Throw him out. My brother just got shot and barely came back to life."
The bodyguard sighed at Axel’s annoyed response, looking at Dominic. "It was Mr. Leo Wu, the celebrity. He said he has something important to tell you."
"Leo Wu?" Dominic furrowed his brows, glancing at the door on instinct.
"What the hell does that guy want now?" Axel murmured, confused. "Wasn’t he still in therapy?"
"I’ll talk to him." Ignoring Axel, Dominic gave the man a go signal. "And tell the guys not to treat him like a criminal. He’s harmless."
Dominic then faced Axel, but before he could say anything, the latter spoke.
"Alright, alright. Talk to him in the car." Axel waved dismissively. "I’ll come down later. After all, I don’t trust these guys will do the job perfectly."
With that being said, Axel turned around and fished his phone out. "It’s me. Check my location, especially the VIP parking space. Find out if there’s anything suspicious, people or not. If you missed anything, you’re all dead meat."
Axel didn’t waste a second, giving out detailed orders to the people on the Secret Floor. Meanwhile, Dominic could only stare at his brother’s back with a subtle smile.
"He still has a lot of work in talking to his people," Dominic commented quietly. ’But then again, he learned from Hera. So I guess that’ll work too.’
Dominic faced the bodyguard and nodded. "Let’s go."
