Chapter 1097: Keep in touch

Chapter 1097: Keep in touch

"She’s calling again? What does she want this time?"

Dominic knew he shouldn’t answer, but deep in his heart, he was desperate. He hadn’t let Hera go; he would never let her go. So even if she would say all hurtful things, or force him to bring out his worst, he answered.

"First of all, I’m not piloting or co-piloting the chopper," was the first thing Dominic heard as soon as he answered the phone. "And second, if you’re going to be a jerk, make it more believable. You can’t just be mean and then tell me not to get distracted while piloting a chopper. You’re confusing me."

"I’m in love with you and I’m angry that I can’t be with you," Dominic argued calmly. "What’s there to be confused about?"

Again, silence followed.

Hera took a deep breath, glancing at the three who were looking at her in dismay. They hadn’t worn their headsets, though.

"I’m not taking you —"

"I know," he answered even before he could hear the entire sentence. "I know that when you turn your back on me that night. You don’t have to repeat that over and over because I’m well aware."

"Then, why?"

"I’m getting a divorce," he answered, bringing out something that wasn’t on the topic. "Before you get ahead of yourself, Heaven filed the divorce. And Basti knows about Hera."

"I know."

"Of course you do."

"What do you want me to do, Dom?" Hera scoffed, massaging her temple. "Ask you to be with me? To beg? Delude myself we can figure things out all the while knowing the chances of putting our children at risk is at an all-time high. Just what do you want me to do?"

"Elliot asked me for help," Dominic confessed, making Hera stop talking. "I’m planning to help him."

"We had this conversation —"

"Our conversation centered on the Reapers, Hera," he stressed. "I can’t directly help the Reapers, but I can help the Interpol. Your enemies won’t target me just because the president of Interpol and Hera Cruel colluded with each other."

Hera opened and closed her mouth, narrowing her eyes. "No," she whispered.

"Deny it all you want, but I can help," Dominic asserted. "You need me, darling. And even if you don’t, don’t expect me to do nothing when I know I can do something."

"No, that’s not what I meant," Hera shook her head, shifting her eyes to the guys with her. "I’ll get back to you, Dom."

"Why?" Dominic inquired. "Do you have any idea?"

"Yes, but I have to confirm it first." Hera snapped her eyes away. "Let’s talk later —"

"Wait." Hera stopped when Dominic spoke. "Does that mean you need my help?"

Hera paused and nodded. "No, and yes."

"Will you call me again?"

"Later." Hera readied her finger on the button and added, "I’ll keep in touch. In the meantime, make sure Dimitri is alive. Also, you might want to get out of there."

With that being said, Hera pressed the button and ended the call. She snapped her eyes at the audience, looking at her curiously.

"Stop looking at me like that. Dom and I didn’t make up," she clarified before they could bombard her with questions and insults. "Back to business. Put your headsets on. I don’t want to repeat myself."

The three (Moose, Primo, and Tiger) furrowed their brows upon seeing that solemn look on her face. That expression told them she was done throwing crap at them, making them wear their headsets.

"What’s up?" Moose inquired as soon as he put on his headset. "Change of plans?"

"No." Hera leaned back. "The plan is still the same. There’s an addition, though. I just thought of how to get my money back."

"Didn’t Dom give it to you?" Primo asked. "I thought he softened up."

"He’s not like that," Tiger commented. "He’s the stubborn type. He’d do anything to make her come running back to him."

The three of them refocused their attention on Hera until Tiger spoke.

"So?" Tiger hummed, his tone laced with intrigue. "Did you decide to steal from him again?"

"I didn’t steal from Dominic," she clarified. "The money I embezzled while working in the Lyon Group is something he is aware of. Silas was meticulous. I must say, he is more than admirable and was really good at what he was doing. I stole from Dominic because we need evidence to pin Silas."

Deep lines appeared between their brows, hearing this version of the story for the first time.

"And when Silas was apprehended, the Lyon Group confiscated all his properties to make up for the money lost," she continued. "So, it’s not Dom that I stole from. It was Silas’s money."

"Then why did Dominic take all your money?" Primo blurted out. "If he doesn’t have a hidden grudge, why would he —"

"Because he would do anything to make her run back to him," Moose murmured, eyes still on Hera. "Dominic knew things would be different the moment he realized Heaven and Hera switched bodies again."

Hera rocked her head. "Annoying as it may, but I won’t fall for the guy if he’s a total idiot."

"So what are you planning now?" asked Tiger. "The story may have made more sense and not just you being greedy. But, the situation is still the same. We don’t have the funds to sustain these attacks, nor would it sustain us for defense. Unless..."

"We’re going to steal it."

"What?" the three faintly gasped in unison. "We’re stealing from him?"

"It’s my money." She justified. "I will steal what was stolen from me."

"Hera, are you sure?" Tiger inquired with a tinge of worry. "It made sense and I won’t stop you, since that is much better than looting our enemies. But then again, if Dominic put up a fight, I’m not saying we’re going to lose. But he’ll be troublesome."

"Not to mention Bear is with them. Princess and Gray too." Moose added. "They won’t betray you, but I know they would still protect Dominic. Those three might assume you’re just going insane, and knowing them, they would try to knock some senses on you."

"I don’t know much about how things will unfold, but I think we should do it," Primo rocked his head, raising his brows when Tiger, Moose, and Hera set their eyes on him. He shrugged, saying, "What? I’m just saying if making it look like they were at each other’s throat is a part of her plan, then it’s perfect."

"It is not like this is the first time Hera messed with him," he added in a knowing tone. "As far as I remember, she messed with him back then when he was trying to get into the diamond industry. Moreover, Dominic is already too deep into this. He can back out since Dimitri is apprehended, but I’m sure he already caught some unwanted attention."

Primo darted his eyes between the three, unsure if his sentiments were helpful or simply made him look stupid. "If I were her enemy, I wouldn’t miss Dominic for the world. Is that... did that make any sense to you guys? Or did I just look stupid?"

"No. It made you look like the man capable of keeping a psychopath out of jail," Hera mused in satisfaction. "Alexander is right. I made a mistake because of my feelings. Hiding Dominic is a mistake."

"What do you mean?" Tiger asked.

"People are watching," she remarked. "And they’re just probably waiting. We need to give them proof he is not on our side."

"And?" Moose hummed. "Once we give them proof he is not on our side, what’s next?"

Hera pursed her lips as the corner of her eyes sharpened. She didn’t answer anyone, making the three of them exchange looks. Even so, not hearing an answer from Hera was enough to get an answer.

She had a plan and whatever it was, they knew it wouldn’t be good for the other party.
