Chapter 1093: Gifts from the uncles
Meanwhile...
"Basti —" Dominic paused by the door, furrowing his brows at the sight he caught in his son’s bedroom.
Sebastian was sitting on the floor, busy typing on the keyboard. When the door opened, he froze and slowly looked back.
"Daddy..." Sebastian let out a short awkward laugh. "Am I getting a time-out?"
"Basti, what are you..." Dominic trailed as soon as he approached and caught sight of the screen. Deep lines resurfaced on his forehead, not expecting to see unfamiliar codes instead of some games or the sort. He slowly veered his gaze to Sebastian, only to realize what his son was doing.
Dominic wasn’t good at the technical things that were happening on the Secret Floor. His wife taught him once, but he got too distracted with her buttocks. Thus, they barely got the chance to delve into the matter because resisting each other’s charms was their biggest obstacle. They never got past that obstacle.
Even so, Dominic knew a thing or two. He knew when things were just gibberish or useful codes that could put someone’s life at stake. Without saying a word, Dominic sped-dialed Gray.
"Come in Basti’s room, Gray," he remarked, eyes still on Sebastian. "It’s important."
After saying his piece, he ended the call and walked toward Sebastian.
"Basti, what are you — where did you get this?" Dominic inquired, squatting beside Sebastian.
"Uncle Joker gifted it to me during Miracle’s month birthday," Sebastian explained, pressing his lips into a thin line. "It was supposed to be a secret."
Dominic knitted his brows and then remembered the chaos Gray and Axel had pulled off months ago. It was that time Silas also paraded his ’love’ for his kids. Those three brought trucks of gifts for the children. Everyone remembered that because it was such a hassle. Half of the gifts weren’t even opened, already rotting in the storage because those stubborn uncles didn’t want to donate them.
He didn’t know Joker had a gift for Sebastian. He wasn’t even aware Joker and Sebastian knew each other! After all, Joker was always on his own and had never been Dominic’s bodyguard. There were times he would pretend to be one, though.
"Basti," Dominic sighed, carrying the laptop in a suitcase on the bed. "Get up there."
The father and son sat down on the edge of the bed. Dominic gazed at the screen.
"Daddy, I should be playing that now," said Sebastian. "If I stop now, my laptop might explode until it’s unusable."
"No."
"But —"
"Basti, explain what’s going on in here in simple terms," Dominic adamantly asserted. "What were you doing when I came in here?"
Sebastian cast his eyes down while fidgeting with his fingers. "I missed my mommy, so I want to look for her."
Hearing his son’s answer made Dominic’s heart clenched. He held his breath for a moment before his expression softened. Why was he surprised? Sebastian wouldn’t move forward that easily. That’s his mother they were talking about.
"I only want to see her so I pulled up her records," said Sebastian, looking up at his father with teary eyes. "I didn’t want to harm anyone, but suddenly someone attacked my system. So... we’re sort of... in the middle of a fight."
Just then, a knock came from the door before Gray’s voice followed.
"Come in, Gray," Dominic spoke, watching the door slowly open from the outside.
As soon as Gray’s eyes fell inside, he darted them between the father and son and the laptop in the suitcase on Dominic’s lap.
"Take over," Dominic moved the laptop slightly, standing from his seat. "I caught him playing using Joker’s gift."
"Joker’s gift?" Gray approached, catching the laptop Dominic passed to him. His arm held the laptop on the bottom, turning it to see the screen. It only took him seconds to panic, blurting out a quiet curse as he rushed to the study table.
Seeing Gray’s reaction, Dominic rested his hand on his hip, eyes on his son.
"Am I grounded?" Sebastian asked somberly. "Daddy."
"Basti, we both know that look only works on your mother," Dominic pointed out, making the little master frown. "I don’t know your punishment yet. It depends on what kind of trouble you’ve been playing."
"Gray," he turned to Gray. "How bad is it?"
"Depends on what kind of bad you think it is." Gray shook his head mildly, continuing what Sebastian was initially doing. "If you think accessing the CIA’s main control is bad, then maybe it’s bad. Though it’s nothing. IP is protected, only the first defense is down — wow. Little master is a genius."
Sebastian grinned proudly, only to change his expression when his father looked back at him.
"Basti." Dominic pinched the bridge of his nose in distress. How could he scold his son when his only reason was to know his mother’s well-being? Not just that, but he couldn’t retort Gray’s reckless praise because his son was truly gifted.
"I will end this now while it’s early. Knowing the CIA, they had other outsources to get us," Gray muttered, concentrating on cleaning up everything without leaving a trace. "It’ll be troublesome if that happened. We might as well consider moving out tonight."
Dominic let out a sigh, setting his eyes down. "Basti, you heard that?"
Sebastian nodded, frowning even deeper now. "Will I get punished?"
"I’ll confiscate this laptop —"
"That’s weird." Gray cocked his head to the side, squinting his eyes. "Little master, who gave this laptop to you?"
"Uncle Joker."
Gray looked back at the little master. "Joker?"
"Mhn. He said if I’m good, he’ll give me more." Sebastian pointed at the suitcase. "Uncle Tiger, Uncle Fig, and Uncle Moose also gave me something. It’s all in the suitcase."
The little master then looked up at his father. "I promise I won’t do this again. Please, don’t take them from me?"
Dominic stared at his son, his heart torn between the right thing to do and his conscience. But before he could say anything, Gray spoke.
"Done!" Gray clapped, turning on the seat to face the father and son. "Before you punish the little master, can we talk?"
Deep lines resurfaced between Dominic’s brows before he sighed. "Fine," he nodded, casting Sebastian another look. "Stay on your bed, Basti. Unless you really want to be in trouble."
