Chapter 1092: Might need a time out
"Is this some sort of virus?" Primo inquired. "If it is, how does this affect us?"
"It affects us because it’s shutting down the system." Hera snapped her eyes at Primo, picking up the phone to get a better look. "If Joker sends this to us, it means he’ll have a problem with time."
"I’m not following." Primo darted his eyes to Tiger and Moose. "Care to give me more explanation? I know the laws, but this? It’s not something I really learned."
"It means Joker lost a few fingers and that he needed a little help here," explained Tiger nonchalantly. "I don’t really understand, but if that arrogant bastard asks for our input, it only means he needed help. He’s also on meds and painkillers. His brain is probably just as bad as his hands."
"Baby monster." Moose rubbed his chin, pondering. "Did you check on Gray?"
"They already did," Tiger remarked. "That’s what Wolf said before I lost him."
"Oh, it’s not shutting down any system. It’s shutting signals connected to the CIA." Hera held the phone closer, knowing there was nothing she could do as these phones were modified to receive and send an SOS signal.
"Our system is hidden under the stairs of the CIA, so in a way, we’re connected. It’s not a direct attack," she explained further, rocking her head at the possible results that could affect them. "Joker will figure this out."
"Are you sure?" Tiger asked. "Wolf wouldn’t try to reach you if he thinks Joker can do it alone."
"There’s a reason why I left Wolf with him. Wolf worked in the CIA for years." Hera tossed the phone back to Tiger, which he caught in midair. "It’s nothing. The worst thing that could happen is that we won’t be able to reach them until they fix the problem."
"I see." Tiger rocked his head in understanding, watching Hera walk back to the person lying unconscious on the ground. "He is not dead?"
"Do you see blood?"
"He fainted," Primo remarked, pushing himself away from the vehicle to follow Hera.
"Fainted?" Tiger scrunched up his face. "That’s weird. He worked for a guy with a terrible breath for years, and yet, he never fainted."
"If I were you, stop talking and help us get the guy," Moose clicked his tongue before following Hera and Primo. "I don’t want to hear more of Hera’s nonsense."
"I’m pretty, Tiger," Hera still commented, squatting down beside Fernando. "What would you do if a goddess showed up in front of you? Wouldn’t you get mesmerized and faint?"
Tiger leaned against the car, watching Hera search for the man. "What goddess are you talking about? If it’s the goddess of death, I’d fight to death. I mean, that’s the only thing you can do at that point."
"Haha. Boring. Shoo. Go back there and get our money," Hera retorted, pausing as she felt something hidden in the man’s inner thigh. "Heh."
Primo winced a little, watching Hera unbuckle the man’s belt. "I shouldn’t be watching this, should I?"
"It feels wrong." Moose nodded, yet they kept staring.
Their brows rose when they caught duct tape strapped around the man’s thigh. Hera giggled, unfolding her knife and cutting through the tape carefully. When she peeled it off, she glanced up at Primo and Moose knowingly.
"I told you, guys," she winked. "There’s someone more precious than a man’s jewel. You just gotta look! Who knows? Maybe, just hidden near it."
Primo and Moose squinted their eyes at the chip hidden within the duct tape. They exchanged looks and then to Hera, who already got up after cutting the duct tape with the chip on it.
"He’s coming with us," she said, lifting the piece of duct tape in front of her. "Let’s give him a choice."
"He won’t talk," Moose argued. "No matter how we torture him, he’s trained not to talk."
"I said I’d give him a chance, not torture him. Come on. Our ride will come here anytime soon." Hera turned around and walked back to where Tiger was. She paraded the piece of duct tape in front of Tiger. "I wonder what this chip will give us."
Tiger sighed and shook his head, watching Moose and Primo tie the man’s hands and feet. When they carried him, he squinted his eyes suspiciously.
"You said he fainted," he remarked at Primo. "That bump on his head and broken nose says otherwise."
Primo rolled his eyes at Tiger. "He fainted... she said. Leave me alone."
"Next time, I’m drawing the long stick," Moose declared. "I’m never going to get stuck with her again."
Tiger opened his mouth, but he ended up just briefly raising his brows. Partnering with Hera wasn’t anyone’s choice. Even Tiger didn’t want to get stuck with her. After all, she would just pollute their minds just to avoid her own misery.
"She’s miserable," Tiger remarked, shifting his eyes to her. "So, she makes people around her miserable. Let her be. It doesn’t make a difference, anyway."
"Good boy." She flashed him a smile, only for her expression to freeze.
"What?" Tiger arched a brow while Primo and Moose dropped the guy to the ground.
The other two also stared at her, curious.
"Why are you making that face?" Moose asked when he couldn’t take it anymore. "Don’t tell me there’s another evil plan underway?"
"Give me your phone." Hera ignored Moose and opened her palm to Tiger. "I need to see it again."
"Uh... okay?" Tiger slipped his hand inside his pocket, handing her the phone. "What is it? Did you realize something?"
Hera stayed quiet, moving the phone closer to her face. "Ah, shit," she whispered, clasping her hair in distress.
"What, what? Are we in trouble?" Primo panicked, finally seeing some remnants of the Hera he knew than the troll he had been with since the beginning of the mission. "Are we going to die? How long do we have?"
Hera shifted her glinting eyes at Primo. "Tell the guys we’re leaving. I need to see what’s happening on Joker’s side."
"What’s going on?" Tiger asked, concerned. "Is there something we should worry about?"
"Yes." Hera looked up as a chopper slowly hovered over them before a ladder was rolled out. "I’m going crazy, that’s what might happen. And my son might need a time out, that Dominic Zhu too, and that stupid Gray. This is why I collected all the parenting books I could get my hands on."
She didn’t waste a second, marching toward the ladder and jumping right into it. The three looked at each other, confused. But then again, hearing that she might go crazy didn’t sound so alarming. She’s already crazy. Would it get any worse?
