Chapter 1088: As long as you keep your promise

Elliot took the profile to the side and checked the other profiles he already checked in case he missed something. His lack of sleep had been messing with his mind. But after reading that particular profile, he knew he missed more important notes than he should’ve had.

Much to his dismay, he was right.

Elliot was doing a lousy job, barely skimming through the profile he thought he already knew. Thus, he didn’t read them properly, just because he thought he already knew about them. It turned out he was wrong.

"So this..." he whispered as realization struck him, waking him up from his sleep depravity. "... is the reason they are after her. She knows a lot."

Knowing things in the underground was dangerous, but knowing more things that connect the underground to certain people was deadly. Hera didn’t just know about criminals, she also knew where they came from, which part of the world they were born into, and their life, their motivation, and their purpose.

[The Interpol will collapse if you die. Not literally, but it’s the same.]

So, that was what she meant by that, he thought.

"If these details aren’t disclosed with me, the president of the Interpol, then that means..." Elliot let out a ridiculing chuckle, realizing he knew nothing unlike what he expected. "That means these guys are criminals under the protection of someone. They can get out even if they were arrested."

Elliot could imagine a ton load of excuses the lawyers could come up with. One of them was these felons were simply working undercover. When, in fact, they were working to do someone else’s dirty work. After all, it wasn’t hard to put two and two together.

If Hera’s claims were true, that the Reapers used to do dirty jobs for some powerful bunch out there, they needed someone else to do it as a replacement. After all, Hera already knew too much and had become a threat to them. Killing Hera was one thing, but continuing their operation was another one.

"Haha!" Elliot couldn’t help but laugh in mockery, almost crumpling the paper in his hand at the realization. "This... we... we’re really on the verge of collapse, are we?"

It was a hard truth to swallow, but Elliot didn’t expect the problem to be this big and deep. He knew it was big, but surely, he hadn’t seen how deep and big the iceberg was. All he had been seeing was the tip of the iceberg — just as what Hera said.

"This will definitely be a shame to all of us." Elliot drew a deep breath and closed his eyes momentarily. When he reopened his eyes, a glint flickered in them.

"Fine," he breathed out, eyes exuding a murderous intent. "Let’s let this glacier collapse."

Elliot huffed and looked around the room. He hadn’t been out of here, not that he was not allowed to leave. Hera just knew how to make someone stay in one place without putting a cuff on them. When he couldn’t spot what he was looking for, he rose from the floor and searched the desk nearby.

"I think I saw her put it here," he muttered, making the drawer rattle as if it was locked. "She locked it."

Elliot scrunched up his nose in dismay, searching the surface and then the unlocked drawers. When he caught a small pin, his eyes lit up. Like a little thief, he tried opening the locked drawer with it. A look of satisfaction turned up on his face when he heard the faint click.

"When you dealt with criminals half your life, you kinda absorb tricks from them," he proudly mused, opening the drawer where Hera kept his phone. "She’s really not that strict."

Well, Hera had been with him for days. So, Elliot had to forget about retrieving his phone. But now that she was gone, nothing would stop him from doing what wanted to do. Taking the phone and powering it up, Elliot wasted no second to call someone.

"Where’s Basti?" was the first thing Dominic asked as soon as got into the villa.

"He’s in his room," Miriam, the person who welcomed the master, reported meekly. "He resigned to bed early after dining with Miss Princess and Sir Gray."

Dominic rocked his head in understanding. "And Miracle?"

"She went back to sleep too. She had been sleeping a lot lately and would constantly throw a tantrum. Probably, she misses her mother."

"I’ll check on her later," said Dominic before he opted to get to the second floor.

"Uh, master," Miriam called just as Dominic reached the first step of the stairs. "Should I prepare your dinner?"

"I’m fine, Miriam. I’ll do it on my own later. You should rest. It seemed Miri had been giving you a hard time."

"Not really." Miriam smiled weakly, but her appearance told him otherwise. She looked a little more haggard than usual, after all.

"I’ll check on Basti. I’ll look after Miracle tonight," Dominic remarked before jogging his way to the second floor.

It wasn’t that late, but it was still too early for Sebastian to sleep. Therefore, Dominic wanted to check on his son. Sebastian had been missing his mother, and even though he had been starting to act like he used to, Dominic was still worried.

When Dominic reached his son’s room, he knocked weakly a couple of times.

"Basti, it’s me. Can I come in?"

As usual, Sebastian didn’t reply to him. Even so, Dominic opened the door and peeked inside. A subtle smile turned up on his face when he saw Sebastian sitting on his bed with a book on his lap.

"Hey," Dominic called, carefully approaching the bed and sitting on the edge. "I heard you are sleeping."

"Mhm." Sebastian nodded. "I wanted to. That’s why I’m reading this book."

Dominic glanced at the book and smiled. "Want me to tuck you in?"

"I’m not a baby anymore."

"But your mother..." Dominic trailed off, biting his tongue to stop himself.

"It’s fine. My mommy is busy saving the world," Sebastian smiled meekly. "How was my other mommy?"

"She’s doing fine."

"Did she ask for a divorce?"

For a moment, Dominic paused as he moved closer. "Basti, don’t worry about that. Heaven and I will settle it like adults."

"Did she ever love me?" he asked out of pure curiosity. "My other mom. Or did she really hate me?"

"Heaven was sick, Basti. She was very sick. She didn’t mean everything she said and did." Dominic patted his son’s head, smiling reassuringly. "But she never hated you."

Sebastian pressed his lips into a thin line, letting his father take his book and fix his blanket. But just as Dominic was tucking him in, they heard a loud vibration.

"Wait a sec," Dominic smiled to turn off his phone, thinking it held no importance. But as soon as he saw the name on the screen, deep lines appeared between them.

"Basti, can I... take this call for a while?" Dominic cast his son a look. "It’s important, and I have to answer it."

"Okay."

With that being said, Dominic went out of the room. As soon as he closed the door, he gazed at the name on the screen curiously.

"Mr. Dunkell?" he uttered as soon as he picked up the phone. "Why are you calling —"

"Do you want Hera Cruel?" were Elliot’s first words. "I’ll give her to you, Mr. Zhu."

Dominic furrowed his brows and glanced at his phone. "What do you want?" he asked and waited for a few seconds to hear what Elliot needed from him. The curiosity in his eyes slowly vanished, replaced by slight surprise.

"Sure." The corner of Dominic’s lips curled up, almost chuckling. "As long as you keep your promise."
