Chapter 1072: Do you?

"Hera."

Hera ran her tongue across her inner cheek, glancing at the person howling on top of Dominic. She clicked her tongue, taking a large step. She coldly clasped Dane’s hair back, smacking his head forcefully.

"Ack!"

Dane rolled over to the side, leaving Dominic’s body. He sucked air through his bloody gritted teeth, holding his bleeding wrist. Glaring daggers at the person who smacked his head, his breath hitched upon recognizing the person who did it.

"You... look terrible," Hera pointed out with disinterest. "Guess he did a good number on you."

"You bitch —"

BANG!

Another round of screams escaped Dane’s throat as she shot him in the leg.

"I don’t have time to listen to more of your barking," Hera remarked while the echoes of gunfire harmonized with his screams. "Shut your mouth because the next one goes to your throat."

"Argh...!" Dane agonized on the ground in pain, barely hearing her warning. The pain in his wrist and leg was quickly spreading; it was killing him.

Dominic didn’t look away from her. This was his wife, the real Hera. Cold, unforgiving, and decisive. She didn’t even blink, nor did she show the slightest emotion when she shot Dane for the second time.

"Do you want to get shot too?" she continued, this time shifting her eyes to Dominic, who was still lying on the ground. "If that is what you want, I’ll happily do it."

Dominic gulped, eyes fixed on the layer of frost dominating her face. "You came," he breathed out.

"If I didn’t, you’d be dead."

"Worried about burying me now?"

"No." Hera squatted down to his side, wiped the dirt off of his face, and started unbuttoning his shirt. She only unbuttoned the first two when he grabbed her wrist to stop her.

"What are you doing?" he asked under his breath. "Stripping me as soon as you see me?"

"Fucking in the middle of the field doesn’t sound terrible," she returned sarcastically and coldly. "I don’t mind. Do you?"

"I don’t."

Hera met his eyes. "Your clothes are dirty. Unless you want to smell like a pig and torture the nose of those who were waiting for you, then carry on."

"This meeting is less dramatic than I imagined it to be."

"Me too," was all she said before she continued unbuttoning a few buttons down. When she saw his chest, she slipped the muzzle of her gun inside and lifted the fabric. She only checked his chest, and then on the other side.

When she saw there wasn’t any major injury in his torso, aside from the bruise on his shoulder, she pulled up his sleeve. Both of his arms were fine. When she was about to move down to check his leg, Dominic held her hand.

"Hera," he called, wincing as he pulled himself to sit up. "I’m fine."

"I only believe in the things I see," she said emotionlessly. "Let me see it."

"He struck me in the ankle, but it’s fine."

Hera and Dominic stared at each other before she pulled her arm away from him. Without a word, she moved down and pulled up his trousers. His ankle was swollen, making her jaw tighten.

"Fucker," she whispered, springing up from her spot. She walked over to Dominic’s leg, marching angrily to the agonizing Dane. "A bruise on the shoulder, on the shin, and on the ankle."

Dane, who was squirming in pain, suddenly shut up when he heard her voice approaching. Looking at her, all he saw was the blaze burning in her eyes. She grabbed his shoulder and pressed her weapon against it, pulling the trigger without a second hesitation.

She then pressed her thumb into his left eye, digging her nails into it until he was screaming in pain.

"Shoulder, shin, ankle," she repeated with a scoff. "Oops. I thought the eye was included."

Hera jumped from him, taking the rock from Dominic. The latter couldn’t even react fast enough to stop her. Or rather, he knew even if he did, no one could stop her. Hera marched back to Dane with the same rock he used to hit Dominic.

She went for his shin first, pounding it on him eight times. Although she heard his shin bone break on the fourth time, she still didn’t stop. She then went to his ankle, crushing both of them until she was certain no amount of surgery could fix it.

Dane initially fought back despite the pain in his wrist, shoulder, leg, and eye. He was only able to kick her once when she hit his shin the first time. But then, she pounded the rock to his other foot. In the end, Dane could only scream as she crushed his bones until she was satisfied.

It would have been better if Dane passed out that very second. But alas, she injected him with something that made him stay conscious until she stopped.

"Damn it," Hera panted, brushing the stray hairs from her face. "I always get things a thousand folds. I should’ve injected him with more..." she trailed off, raising her brows as she slowly turned her head to Dominic.

"Uh." She rocked her head. "Didn’t want you to see that."

Hera looked away and shook her head. She glanced at the unconscious Dane, tossing the rock to the side.

"Well, it’s over. At least my business with him is done." Hera planted her hands on her thigh, pushing herself up. She gazed down at Dominic again, throwing the gun at him, which he caught mid-air. "Use that in case you still need it."

With that being said, she turned to the side to walk away from her. She only took three steps when she paused, hearing Dominic speak.

"You are just going to leave?" he asked in disbelief, eyes on her back. "Just like that?"

"Are you expecting anything else?" she returned, glancing over her shoulder. "Did you expect me to cry? To run into your arms? Hah. You are silly, Dominic Zhu."

Hera paused, turning to face him. "I came here because I have unfinished business with Dimitri. Now that I have settled it, there’s no reason for me to be here."

"Hera."

"Dominic." Her tone grew firmer and colder as her eyes darkened. "Stop this now. Doing this... working with Interpol and having an alliance with Ram... isn’t going to help me in any way. Just like what happened now, you didn’t help. If I didn’t come in time, your son would’ve had to watch people lower his father’s casket in the ground."

His breath hitched as his face crumpled, observing the distant look in her eyes and the coldness oozing from her voice.

"I don’t need you, Dom," she added, shaking her head. "Not when I am Hera. So, stop."

"Then what do you want me to do, huh?" he breathed out, wincing as he got up to his feet. Dominic dragged his foot and limped towards her. "We were okay! Not the type we want to be, but we were okay until you woke up in that body."

His voice shook, getting irritated at the soft mud because it hindered him from reaching her faster. When he realized it would take him more than a few seconds to reach her, he stopped and looked into her eyes.

"If... I didn’t close my eyes, would you even show yourself?" his lips quivered as a thin layer of tears coated his eyes. "Would you even come out from where you are hiding if I ended him?"

"Tell me, Hera." Dominic took a deep breath, but his voice still cracked. "Do you... do you even have any idea what it means or how it feels to not be needed or be of use to you? Do you?"
