Chapter 1070: Die together
"Argh! A! Uh!"
Dane produced different sounds of grunts at every punch he received. Sometimes Dominic would punch him in the face. There were instances when Dominic’s fist would land on his chest, stomach, or anywhere else. It was obvious Dominic was preventing him from passing out.
Considering Dane had been through hell and back before reaching this point in his life, his willpower to not lose consciousness wasn’t helping. Because Dane had grown a tolerance for this type of pain, he couldn’t pass out even if he wanted to so he wouldn’t be in pain.
Even though Dane was still in a distraught state, a part of his mind was aware of everything. He just couldn’t process what was fueling Dominic’s anger. All he knew was that Dominic had lost it.
Dominic had gone insane.
Dane clenched his teeth as he anticipated another punch in his face. He clasped the soft ground as the pain struck him within seconds. This time, however, he had endured the pain and channeled his reserved strength into his hand. Clasping a handful of mud, he threw it across Dominic’s eyes.
"Tsss." Dominic hissed as he shut his eyes on instinct.
Using this opening to his advantage, Dane was filled with adrenaline. The rush running through every fiber of his body brought this impossible strength back. Dane pushed Dominic off of him, propping his elbow against the ground. He had been receiving blow after blow, conserving his energy for this moment.
For a second, the adrenaline pumping in his heart made him forget about his mangled face. Dane was able to sit up easily, looking at Dominic. He panicked when he saw Dominic wiping his eyes while hissing a curse word.
"Ugh..." Dane groaned, clenching his initially loosened jaw to get up from his spot.
They were both unarmed and Dominic only struck his face, chest, and abdomen. He could still outrun him if he could fight the painful pressure on his face. As Dane turned around on his knees, he was about to get up when a hand grabbed his ankle.
Dane slumped on his chest when the hand pulled him, warranting a groan from him. Looking back, Dominic was already peeking through his one eye.
"Bastard!" Dane kicked Dominic’s arm to get rid of his hand.
Dominic grunted as he couldn’t dodge the kick fast enough. He held his arm while Dane quickly got back on his feet.
"You’re not... I’m not done with you yet..." Dominic wiped his eyes once more, pushing himself up to follow Dane.
Dane’s vision shook, moving his arms ahead to move the tall grasses aside. He planned to run, but he only ran for a few seconds before he slowed down. His head was throbbing, his vision blurred and shaking, and his entire body was in pain.
His body wanted to give up on him.
He had lost blood, and he was beaten almost black and blue. So, even if his feet were left unharmed, he couldn’t delude his mind that he could run. His mind was already under the illusion of being in a conscious state. His brain was already too busy convincing himself that he should be psychologically conscious.
"Damn it," Dane breathed out, unknowingly dragging himself away. "I have to... I have to..."
"Dimitri."
Dane paused as he slowly looked back at Dominic. His bloody, swollen lips opened and closed, realizing he hadn’t gotten that far from where he came from. How could he tell? Dominic was just standing from where he was earlier.
"Haha..." Dominic laughed, watching the ugly look on Dane’s bloody face. Blood and wounds might’ve covered Dane’s face, but he could imagine the shock behind it.
"Are you hallucinating?" asked Dominic evilly and sarcastically. "Run, you should run. If you don’t, I’m breaking that foot."
"You sick bastard," Dane grumbled, looking away from Dominic as he dragged himself away.
He thought he was running earlier, but it seemed he was starting to hallucinate. Well, after getting punched in the face and head so much, it would be more surprising if Dane were mentally sound.
"Dimitri..." Dominic called, following Dane leisurely as if he were simply walking in the park. "You said you don’t run away. You said you’re not a coward. Right now, I’m embarrassed for you."
Dane didn’t look back, ignoring the man behind him. This was humiliating, but at least he wasn’t getting beaten up. He could swallow this humiliation. He had been swallowing his pride and ego for years while working under Dominic. This was nothing.
"Dimitri."
"Dimitri."
"It’s not sir anymore," Dominic continued. "It’s Minister."
Dominic laughed bitterly, eyes still on Dane’s back. The latter didn’t look back, knowing once he did, it would crush all his hope. It wasn’t like he didn’t have any idea how close Dominic was catching up with him. He just didn’t want to see it.
"That blonde..." Dominic muttered. "She likes you and is willing to die for you."
Dane still didn’t respond.
"Yet, you brought another woman against her will home," Dominic continued. "What were you thinking? That blonde would be glad that I killed her, instead of finding out her beloved boss planned to replace her with someone else."
He paused when Dane suddenly tripped over. Dominic shook his head, watching Dane try to get up.
"There’s no point," said Dominic. "If we go straight there, my men will welcome you with their guns. I’m just giving you false hope, but now I feel bad."
Dane clasped the ground, feeling the rock that caused why he tripped over. He felt it with both his hands, studying if it could be something that he could carry.
"Come on," Dominic urged, marching in Dane’s direction. "Enough playing games..."
Just as Dominic reached Dane’s shoulder, the latter swung his arm away. He held the rock with both his hands, hitting Dominic’s temple with it. However, because his adrenaline was wearing off, he barely grazed Dominic. Even so, the latter fell on his bottom as his temple suddenly throbbed painfully.
"Enough playing game..." Dane breathed out, looking at Dominic angrily. "Fine. Let’s just die here, Dominic Zhu."
With that being said, Dane suddenly threw the rock on Dominic’s ankle. The latter let out a grunt. Dane didn’t waste a second and crawled towards Dominic. He picked up the rock, pounding it against Dominic’s shin.
When Dominic hunched in, Dane moved up while still carrying the rock with all his strength. He hit Dominic’s shoulder with it, pushing him until he was lying on his back.
"If I’m going down, I’m going to take you with me," Dane hissed, lifting the rock over his head, eyes on Dominic. "Die, Dominic. Or rather, die, Minister."
Dominic’s eyes went wide at the person over him. He tried to raise his hand, but the pain in his shoulder intensified at his movement.
Time slowed down for the both of them as Dane started screaming his lungs out. He was about to swing his arms down, planning to crash Dominic’s head with the rock, when both of them heard a gunfire.
BANG!
