Chapter 1046: Mark the beginning of a new era

[Somewhere in the North]

"What?!" Dane growled as he sprung up from his seat, holding his phone in front of his ear tightly. "Who did you say it was?"

"Hera Cruel."

His eyes dilated as his pupils constricted. This couldn’t be right.

"Everyone is dead," the other man continued with a jagged breath. "And the Interpol arrived shortly after. I was lucky I was able to escape."

"Ha ha..." Dane suddenly threw his phone to the wall, shattering it into pieces. He then slammed his hands on the desk, panting for air as his heart raged.

Hera Cruel sabotaged the shipments?

Dane almost laughed at the thought. "That useless Dragon..." he hissed, having this urge to beat Dragon to death for not doing a proper job. "Even after all the resources I’ve given him, he still couldn’t stop her from getting back on track. Damn it!"

Dane slammed his hands against the table once again, throwing a huge fit. Those shipments were important. Aside from the arms he wanted for personal use, the people expecting the drugs were not one to mess with. Not to mention, all those commodities for organ trade were rare finds. That container alone costs tens of billions plus the drugs — that would be a fortune.

The clients who had been expecting those goods would become his enemies if he couldn’t deliver them.

"No," he breathed out, shaking his head. "This can’t be happening."

[The Interpol arrived shortly after.]

"Is she working with the Interpol?" he wondered, closing his eyes as he tried to calm the turmoil in his mind. "It’s not over yet."

Dane drew a deep breath, convincing himself it wasn’t over yet. The shipments would take days to arrive. And as far as he knew, the drugs were shipped. The only ones that weren’t were the children.

"Dominic is dead, so that’s a minus to my problem." His face darkened, thinking that Dominic would not be his problem anymore. However, his replacement was a real pain in the neck.

Hera Cruel.

So that woman truly recovered from all the drugs injected into her all these years, huh? Surely, the evil people lived longer than the good ones.

"I need to think," he told himself, pacing back and forth behind the desk. "Hera Cruel, Interpol..."

Dimitri suddenly stopped as a thought crossed his mind. Opening the drawer in the desk, he took out another spare phone where all his important connections were. He scrolled through the contacts and called a number in a hurry.

"It’s me," was his opening statement. "I’m not going to beat around the bush. I need your help."

The other person on the line didn’t speak, but Dane knew the person was listening.

"I’ll give you what you want," he remarked solemnly. "But I need something in return."

"And what is it that you want in return, Dimitri?" after a long silence, the voice of an old lady was heard on the other end of the line. "It must be very important that you finally gave me a call after all these years."

"The Interpol would soon report an incident," Dane remarked. "And after a few days, they would retrieve a few containers. I needed them back."

"That is a lot of work," the woman returned calmly. "And perhaps, almost impossible."

"Ram and Elliot Dunkel will be out of your sight," he continued without a second hesitation. "Elliot Dunkel had been digging dirt on the General Assembly and Ram has been backing him up since he joined the group."

"And who is going to take the fall if those two met an accident?"

"Hera Cruel." The corner of Dane’s lips curled up into a devious smirk. "It won’t be traced back to either you or me. Our problems would be solved."

"Shouldn’t you be talking to one of your clients? I’m sure they would love to help."

That was true, but Dane didn’t want to risk it. He didn’t trust his clients just as much as they didn’t trust him. If they found out that there was an incident involving the goods, they would help Dane and then kill him after retrieving what they wanted.

That would be the end of their contract.

"If you don’t want to help, then I’d ask for their helping hand. However, don’t come looking for me if you need mine in the future," he hissed, showing no opening for the woman to see any weakness. "Better yet, I might help Elliot Dunkel abolish the General Assembly."

A moment of silence reigned in the line as neither of them spoke.

"Threatening me isn’t the proper way to ask for help," said the old lady on the other end of the line. "You must have been desperate."

"Forget it."

"Sure, I’ll help." The woman added before Dane ended the phone call. "I’ll give you the goods that were stolen from you, but you got to give me Ram’s head in return. As for Elliot, once the containers were stolen back, his plate would be full. It would put his position on the line."

The woman paused. "But if you fail... I’ll see to it that you’d be the first name to be crossed out on my list. I can’t let them trace any connection I have with you."

"If I fail," was all Dane said before he ended the call.

As soon as he finished, he drew a deep breath and looked around the office he was in. He didn’t want to work with that woman, knowing it was akin to holding a double-edged sword. However, desperate times called for desperate means.

"Hera Cruel," he whispered, chuckling with his lips closed. "Elliot Dunkel and Ram. Count your days."

His eyes lit up with menace and determination. This was his last shot to fix everything. Otherwise, all his hard work throughout the years would go down the drain. He couldn’t allow that; he would rather die than see himself fall like that pathetic Dragon.

"Your deaths will mark a new era in the underground and the Interpol."

And he would lead this new era.
