Chapter 1014: Wolf’s dead

Meanwhile...

[If you’re innocent, as you claimed, Hera Cruel won’t reach out to make a deal.]

The detective’s words replayed in Wolf’s mind like a broken record. He didn’t expect much from his former colleagues, knowing they wouldn’t recklessly march in this place to save him. Wolf was not someone who needed saving.

’She reached out...’ He breathed out, glancing at the small partition of the van that separated the backseat where he was and the front. ’And so, they were moving me.’

Wolf shook his head, telling himself to keep his mind clear. A big part of him believed Hera returned to her body. After all, that was the only plausible answer in this situation. The other part of him disagreed. The real Heaven Liu was a convincing actress. She could be posing as Hera at Dragon’s behest.

’Dragon...’he squinted his eyes. ’If that is the case, what does he want from me?’

Getting him killed was too obvious of an answer. However, why would Dragon risk and make a gamble with Interpol just to kill him?

There was only one person who would go to such lengths for him.

And they all knew who that person was.

’Hera...’ he took a deep breath, scooting over to the front of the van. "Where are you transferring me?"

Wolf asked, but to no avail.

"Hey, I’m asking —" he hissed when the officer in the front shut the partition. "I am innocent until proven guilty. I have the right to know where you are taking me —"

Before Wolf could finish his statement, a loud screech pierced his ear before his entire body flew to the other side. He hit his temple with his cuff, bleeding almost instantly. Because he was handcuffed, Wolf’s means of reducing the impact were gone.

"Ugh..." A grunt slipped past his gritted teeth, feeling a few areas of his body throb. As his consciousness returned, he heard faint gunfire outside the van.

"Hah..." Wolf dragged himself up, wincing as he hit his hip when the crash happened. He glanced at the exit of the van, panicking as he rushed to the front.

"Hey! Are you alright?!" Wolf slammed his shoulder on the small partition. "Hey!"

"Take cover!"

Wolf’s breath hitched as he heard more and more shouts outside. The gunfire had also sounded more violent.

"Could it be her?" he wondered under his breath. "It could be someone else."

There were too many on the list who could interfere with his transfer. There was Hera, but there were also Dragon and Ram. He doubted it was Dimitri, but it was possible. Which explained his nervousness the more he heard about the fight outside.

"If this isn’t Hera, I’d be in trouble." Wolf clasped his hands together, using his elbow to strike the small bars of the partition. He hit it once, twice, and on the third one, the partition fell off.

Wolf immediately peeked through it, only to see the officers dead. Or maybe unconscious. He couldn’t exactly tell. What he did know was that this was bad. Wolf spun around, using his feet to kick the bars in between the partitions.

After another four kicks, the bars broke.

Wolf breathed out, looking at the small square hole connecting the back of the van and the front. He knew this was simply a futile attempt, but he had to do something. He slipped his handcuffed hands inside the hole, grinding his teeth as he tried to push it forward.

The small space was too small for two arms to fit. But he had no choice. Wolf stretched his fingers, reaching for the shattered piece of glass on the officer’s shoulder. When he managed, he froze as he heard one last gunfire in the air.

"They’re done," he uttered, quickly pulling his arms from the partition. Blood smeared his arms as the metal edges scratched onto it. Wolf grunted, ignoring the pain as he pulled his arm out. As soon as he did, he stumbled back and fell.

"Ugh!" another grunt escaped his gritted teeth, keeping the shard hidden in his grip.

At the same time, he heard the door of the van fly open. Wolf shut his eyes on instinct as a car beamed right at it.

"Hah..." he breathed out, peeking through one of his eyes to see a woman’s silhouette. When his eyes adjusted, deep lines appeared between his brows. "Detective. I see you were alive..."

Wolf trailed off, squinting his eyes as he glanced at the scene behind her. He lifted his eyes to her, sneering.

"Or maybe not. Did you realize just how much trouble you’d be now? So, you resort to killing me?" he scoffed, thinking this was the worst that could happen. "Killing me means you can twist the story all you want, huh?"

"That’s right." The female detective who had been interrogating Wolf smirked. "Just like what they say; history is written by the victors. No one would question it if we said some of your allies ambushed us. As a result, you were shot dead among the several other men transferring you."

Wolf snickered, eyes glinting.

"He got a sharp object in his hand." A man suddenly stepped out behind the door, peeking at Wolf in the van. "Be careful."

Wolf gripped the shard tighter, watching some men enter the van. Wolf raised the shard, flinging his arms across to keep them away. He slashed through the man’s cheek. But that was the best he could do. One of them just kicked his arm and subdued him in no time. It wouldn’t be this easy if he wasn’t handcuffed.

"Do you think killing me will stop your problem?!" he growled, struggling as he was pinned down on his stomach. "You and everyone have bigger problems and —"

Wolf halted as he felt his handcuffs loosen. After a second, the man sitting on his back got off of him. Furrowing his brows, he looked back as he carefully sat up. He gazed down. His hands were free. Confused, he looked at the detectives, who had been trying to break him for days.

"What are you..." he trailed off, narrowing his eyes suspiciously. "... who wants me dead?"

"Who else if not Hera?" answered the female detective, smiling. "She said she wants you dead."

"And so, as ordered, you’ll be." The male detective dragged up a body that had the same stature and build as Wolf. The body landed with a thud, making the van lower a little at the added weight. He placed it in the van like a sack, snapping his eyes to Wolf.

"Now, Wolf’s dead."
