Chapter 87: Wrecking Ball, Baby
Chapter 87: Wrecking Ball, Baby
It still felt like a fever dream, but she’d actually been flung into the future as a reward for surviving her self-progression arc.
Who knew emotional growth came with a time skip?
Honestly, her life inside this novel was starting to feel like a tangled web of cosmic spaghetti. No matter how much she tried to fix things, the threads of fate kept twisting in unpredictable directions.
Evelyn showing up as a candidate definitely wasn’t in the original script.
If the old readers saw this plot now, they’d probably spit out their tea in sheer confusion. So much had changed, it was practically a sequel no one asked for, but secretly loved. It would either spark outrage... or obsessive fan theories.
She wasn’t planning to interfere. Not yet, anyway. She wouldn’t talk to her either.
Even if she stayed distant, she could still help the girl grow from a safe, emotionally repressed distance, of course.

God...
The gym buzzed with tension as the crown prince stepped up to the podium.
His voice was crisp, outlining ambitious reforms and promising to stimulate the economy with bold policies.
He didn’t falter, his delivery sharp and precise, a calculated performance that had the audience leaning forward in anticipation.
As he wrapped up, the crowd erupted into applause, the tension breaking momentarily before the next candidate took the stage.
A swift transition, no time for hesitation, now, the governor candidate from the Eclipsor Department from their party.
Verena couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow as Cassian Vell stepped up to the podium.
She wasn’t sure what to expect from the supposed "genius" of the Eclipsor Department, but she definitely didn’t expect him to be this much of a mess.
He was supposed to be smart, sure, but the guy looked like he couldn’t even handle a microphone without nearly tripping over it.
"I... Uh..." Cassian stammered, already a bead of sweat forming on his forehead.
A loud boo echoed from the crowd.
This guy was in trouble.
Why even bother running for candidacy if you can’t even get your words straight?
Elara Duskwood, their overly enthusiastic vice-governor candidate, suddenly shouted, "YOU CAN DO THIS, CASSIAN!" Her voice was full of pep, but it just made Cassian look even more like a deer in headlights.
The treasurer, always stern and rigid, gave a hesitant nod of encouragement, though he looked like he was regretting his life choices.
Time was ticking down, and Cassian had only one minute left to deliver his speech, while the crowd was already starting to get impatient.
The sweat on his brow wasn’t from the heat; it was from sheer embarrassment. It was starting to get really awkward.
"Goddamn it..." Verena groaned, unable to watch Cassian flop like this.
"F-F-Fellow students," he began, voice commanding attention, suddenly finding motivation. "T-The world is in flux.... Power shifts like the very light and shadow we s-study. The... um... the Eclipsor Department has always been at the crossroads of change, understanding the balance of forces unseen. But now, we must ask ourselves: Are we truly ready to control the future?"
He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in before continuing.
"My vision? A world where we not only predict the tides of change. We steer them."
No one knew where that sudden burst of confidence came from, but it hit like a wave. His words flowed smoother, gaining strength with each sentence. But then, his time stopped. One minute was over.
Silence. Complete silence.
Then it started. One clap. Then another. His eyes widened in disbelief.
"LET’S GOOOOOO! CASSIAN, YOU’RE GONNA OWN THIS! THEY WON’T KNOW WHAT HIT ’EM!!" Elara screamed at the top of her lungs, her voice booming across the gym.
Someone in the crowd yelled, "Isn’t he, like, a total wreck?"
"WHO CARES! HE’S A WRECKING BALL NOW, BABY! YOU’RE A FREAKING STAR, CASSIAN!"
"Elara, chill, you’re gonna give the guy a panic attack!" a voice called out from the back.
"TOO LATE! HE’S GONNA BE THE PANIC ATTACK, YOU WATCH!" She was about to shot a middle finger until her treasurer stopped the movement.
At this point, Cassian was half-trying to hide under the podium, but Elara didn’t give a damn. "CASSIAN! LET ’EM ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE! YOU’RE THE DRAGON OF ECLIPSOR! BURN IT DOWN!"
One led to another, Elara did her part way too confident, as usual.
But when the spotlight shifted to Verena, she didn’t flinch. This wasn’t her first rodeo.
With a casual shrug, she quoted some random philosophy she’d read in her past life, her voice dripping with that cool, effortless charm.
"’The only way to deal with this life meaningfully is to find one’s own path and walk it boldly," She smirked. "And if that doesn’t work, just fake it ’til you make it, right?"
Was it profound? Was it just nonsense? Either way, Verena didn’t care. She was already walking off, leaving them wondering what just happened.
One by one, the candidates delivered their speeches, each more confident than the last. It was Evelyn’s turn. She looked worse than Cassian.
When she stepped up, her lips were trembling, her words lost somewhere between stutters and panic.
It was as if she might cry at any moment. The moment her name was called, she almost tripped over her own feet. And, of course, everyone saw it.
"Who the hell is that?" someone whispered."How the heck should I know?" another replied."She’s pretty, I’ll give her that," someone else chimed in."She looks like she’s about to pee herself... this is gold!" they all snickered.
Verena didn’t hesitate. She tapped into the second world, her fingers grasping at the threads around her.
"Shut the fuck up," she muttered, and just like that, the students fell silent, confusion plastered across their faces.
Evelyn, however, still looked like she was about to cry.
She took a shaky step back, her voice trembling. "I... I can’t do this..." She turned to leave.
Verena’s jaw clenched.
Not on my watch.
She appeared behind Evelyn in a flash, pulling her into an unexpected embrace. "Don’t you dare run. You’ve got this."
