Chapter 13 - Anti-Darkness Beam?
Chapter 13: Anti-Darkness Beam?
A beam technique that hits the target but deals no damage? For an Ultraman, that’s probably humiliating, right?
Mu Yang wondered if the Father of Ultra could fix this issue. Otherwise, he’d have to rely on the system. As the Light Creation God, failing to emit a proper beam would be utterly embarrassing.
Come to think of it, in Yu-Gi-Oh!, the Light Creation God didn’t use any specific skills, did it? It just appeared, and the Dark Great Evil God fled in defeat.
Still, Mu Yang was quite dissatisfied with his “fragrant mouth blast” attack style. He planned to switch to using his fingers later, like shooting sword energy—that’d be way cooler.
The Father of Ultra studied Mu Yang thoughtfully, then adjusted the target with a few presses. The target’s aura changed noticeably, now radiating an unsettling vibe that made Mu Yang uncomfortable.
“That’s the aura of darkness,” Seven explained, sensing Mu Yang’s confusion.
“Try again,” the Father of Ultra said, pointing at the target.
“Got it!” Mu Yang took a deep breath and fired another light cannon. A beam flashed, striking the target with a boom, shattering it into pieces.
“Whoa!” Mu Yang’s jaw dropped. That effect wasn’t weak at all!
“My guess was correct!” the Father of Ultra said thoughtfully.
“Is Boss’s light special?” Seven asked.
“Yes, if I’m right, Boss’s light is so pure that it lacks destructive power. This might change as he develops his abilities further, but for now, it’s clear that Boss has a strong suppressive effect on dark forces!” the Father of Ultra explained to Mu Yang.
This kid was a treasure! He could counter darkness, the main enemy of Ultramans.
“Is that so? Doesn’t that make me a target for everyone?” Mu Yang felt his world crumble. Zagi, the Ampera Seijin, even Beliar—all dark-aligned. If they came after him, wouldn’t he be doomed?
“So, for now, avoid using this beam,” the Father of Ultra advised. “As for the Land of Light, don’t worry—we won’t leak this.”
Mu Yang stared skyward. What about that big shot? Would he become a stumbling block in his plans?
“Since you can’t learn beam techniques yet, try other skills!” Ace said patiently, trying to comfort him.
A power that specifically counters darkness? Ace wanted that too. If he could trade his abilities for anti-darkness powers, he’d do it in a heartbeat.
But being unable to use beams was a huge limitation. It’d be inconvenient in combat.
“I heard from Brother Seven and Father that you have incredible talent in fighting. The Land of Light will help you grow stronger!” Taro chimed in.
As an instructor for the Ultra Space Garrison, Taro was intrigued by Mu Yang. His own combat skills were the best among the Ultra Six Brothers. What could Mu Yang become under his training?
“Thanks, I’ll be counting on you!” Mu Yang said gratefully.
Taro and Ace soon experienced what a true genius was. No matter what combat skill they taught, Mu Yang mastered it instantly, often performing it better than they did.
This feeling left them speechless. Thank goodness this freak couldn’t use devastating beam techniques, or they’d really start questioning their existence.
Mu Yang’s shock points kept climbing. It wasn’t just the big shots in front of him; the entire Land of Light seemed to be contributing, amazed by his talent.
His shock points reached over thirty million—something he’d never even dreamed of.
Sadly, aside from combat moves, he couldn’t learn other Ultraman skills, like beams or support abilities.
What a damn nuisance!
After some thought, he decided to try the lottery. The quality of rewards depended on the shock points spent, so he’d test a 100,000-point draw. It was pocket change for him now. He could easily earn it back by showing off in crowded places.
Not thinking about returning to his original Earth, he quite liked the Land of Light. The people were kind, spoke nicely, and gave him chances to shine in public. He loved it!
“Ding, congratulations to the host for drawing the purple-grade skill Volt Tackle!”
Volt Tackle? Mu Yang was baffled but upgraded it to LV3. He turned to the target, eager to test its power.
Footnotes:
- 口吐芬芳(kǒu tǔ fēnfāng): Literally “mouth spitting fragrance,” a sarcastic internet slang term for crude or offensive speech. Here, Mu Yang uses it humorously to describe his mouth-based beam attack, implying it’s an inelegant method.
- 炸鸡(zhà jī): Literally “fried chicken,” a playful misnomer for Zagi (Nexus Ultraman’s dark counterpart), likely a typo or intentional pun to lighten the tone, as “zhà jī” sounds vaguely similar to “Zagi.”
- 人前显圣(rén qián xiǎn shèng): Literally “showing off sainthood before others,” internet slang for flaunting one’s skills or superiority publicly to impress or shock others. Mu Yang uses it to describe his shock-point farming strategy.
