Chapter 52: Food

"Fire at will!" The Captain shouted when the Ember Elephants got into effective shooting range.

Buzz.

The rapid firing machine guns and cannons that were still operable sprayed their projectiles at the Ember Elephants.

When the bullets hit the Ember Elephants, they could only rip through the body and limbs of the Ember Elephants.

Some of the injured Ember Elephants were still able to trudge along towards the wall.

The cannons did more damage as they took out some of the Ember Elephants.

However, it wasn’t enough to stop the hundreds of Ember Elephants.

When they got to the wall, they charged at the thick metallic doors of the checkpoints.

Thud.

The soldiers behind could feel the doors vibrate each time the Ember Elephants banged at the doors.

When they saw cracks appear on the wall, they held onto their weapons, getting ready for what was to come.

Meanwhile, the Water Gorillas scaled up the pile of bodies of the lower tiered demonic beasts.

They tried to climb up onto the top of the wall.

Lukas with his Ice Spikes waited and hurled the Ice Spikes at them.

Splash.

The Water Gorillas formed a wall of water engulfing their bodies to protect them from the Ice Spikes.

The Ice Spikes caused the wall of water to splash out and they could only plunge halfway through the bodies of the Water Gorillas.

They twitched from the pain and roared angrily at Lukas.

Lukas conjured up another volley of Ice Spikes and shot them at the Water Gorillas again.

Splash.

This time, even though the wall of water decreased the momentum of the Ice Spikes, the Water Gorillas that were hit fell back and tumbled down the pile of demonic beast bodies.

Lukas had aimed for their heads, and it worked.

The Ice Spikes penetrated deep enough into their brains to kill them off.

A familiar sound erupted in Lukas’s mind.

[Ding!]

Lukas didn’t have time to look at the information panel in his mind as the Water Gorillas retaliated.

They flung balls of water up into the air.

And the balls of water flew above the top of the wall, where Lukas was standing.

"Take cover!" Lukas shouted and he placed his hands on the ground, conjured up an ice wall covering the other team members.

The balls of water exploded, and the water droplets shot out in every direction.

Thud.

The water droplets hit onto the ice wall and penetrated halfway through it.

Shards of the ice wall flew off.

The soldiers in the surroundings weren’t as lucky as the water droplets shot through their bodies.

The helmets and armor they had on them weren’t strong enough to withstand the water droplets.

Screams and whimpers could be heard as the soldiers lay on the ground with blood slowly pooling beneath their bodies.

Before Lukas could shatter the wall of ice and retaliate, another wave of the water balls came shooting up into the air again.

Thud.

This time the water droplets did their job and the ice wall cracked and some of the water droplets shot at Lukas and the other team members.

Lukas’s Darkmatter Vault Armor hardened, trying to protect him from the water droplets.

It was not enough.

The water droplets broke through the armor but couldn’t break through Lukas’s skin.

All they could do was make his skin redden from the impact.

Lukas quickly glanced over at his teammates to check on them.

They were huddled together in a pile.

Rex had covered Emma, Riley and Harianto with his body made of rock from the water droplets.

He got up and gave a thumbs up to Lukas.

"Watch out! They’re coming." Lukas shouted as he saw a Water Gorilla leap onto the edge of the wall where Rex was standing.

He quickly ducked his head as he felt a gust of wind coming from the edge of the wall.

A Water Gorilla, who had leaped onto the top of the wall, swung its huge strong arm at Lukas.

Whoosh.

The arm of the Water Gorilla brushed Lukas’s hair as it nearly missed.

Lukas kicked at the ground and lunged at the Water Gorilla.

The Water Gorilla reacted and it tried to smash its arms down at Lukas’s head.

Halfway through, its hands froze in the air.

Lukas had used his shadow to grab onto the shadow of the Water Gorilla’s arms.

He conjured a small ice spike and plunged it through the chin of the Water Gorilla.

A familiar sound erupted in his mind.

[Ding!]

Lukas glanced over and saw that Riley and the others were done with the Water Gorillas attacking them.

However, all around him, there was only chaos.

The soldiers were running around everywhere in panic.

In a distance away from Lukas, one of the soldiers was held into the air by a Water Gorilla.

The Water Gorilla with its strong arms pulled and it ripped the body of the soldier into halves.

Blood and the innards of the soldier splashed onto the ground.

The visual impact stunned the other soldiers for a moment.

Lukas unleashed Ice Spikes at the numerous Water Gorillas that kept coming.

However, the wall of water that protected their bodies made them hard to deal with.

Soon he was separated from Riley and the rest of the team.

The others were forced away by the Water Gorillas.

"Riley, I can handle them myself!" Lukas shouted, as he still had a trump card up his sleeve.

Riley and the other members were anxious and tried to reach Lukas, but the waves of Water Gorillas coming at them made it impossible.

"Fire! Do what you were trained to do." The Captain shouted his orders at the soldiers.

This knocked some of the soldiers back into reality and they got onto the turrets and started firing at the Water Gorillas.

Thud.

Two Water Gorillas came at Lukas from his sides.

Their arms smashed down at Lukas, but he blocked them with his arms.

The Water Gorillas tried to push down their arms onto Lukas, but they were surprised to find out that they couldn’t.

Lukas’s strength was much stronger than theirs.

They wanted to pull back their arms, but something appeared out of an orange glow.

Shiba’s eyes opened wide, and it grinned when it saw the two Water Gorillas.
