Chapter 38: Team Riley

Lukas stopped what he was doing and took out his pistol.

"Hey, I know it’s unexpected, but we’ve been invited by the Awakened Center Director, Rodney."

A familiar voice came from behind the door.

It was Riley’s voice.

Lukas deduced what this meant.

The Awakened Center’s Director must have sent Riley’s team to protect him from the Pak family.

He glanced over at Shiba, gave him an ’I’m sorry buddy’ look, and summoned Shiba back into his summoner space.

After doing so, Lukas walked up to the door, with his right hand holding the pistol behind his back.

Creak.

The door opened with a creak and Riley with his team members were standing outside.

Riley entered the room even before Lukas said anything.

He looked around and frowned.

When he saw the empty plates that filled the table and even on the ground, Riley raised an eyebrow at what he saw.

"You do have a big appetite for someone like you." Riley brushed his long blue hair and said.

Lukas shrugged and replied, "After a hard day of work, it’s good to treat yourself."

"Come on Riley, we don’t have the whole day." A voice from outside interjected impatiently.

"Oh, how can I forget." Riley smiled and waved his hand at his team members standing outside. "Come on in and introduce yourselves."

The man who interjected walked in quickly with the others following closely behind.

"I’m Rex." Rex said with his chin up at Lukas.

He was a burly man with strong arms.

And on his arms, there were tattoos of women’s names all over them, but they were all struck out.

Lukas frowned as he wondered what it meant.

"These are all the names of my exes. We only went our own ways. I didn’t do anything to them." Rex showed him one of his arms to clarify.

Lukas didn’t know how to respond and gave him a smile.

The woman standing next to Rex spoke next and introduced herself.

"I’m Emma, nice to meet you." She wore a pair of glasses, and her lips had dark red lipstick on.

And with her red armor and gear, Lukas figured she must be madly in love with the color red.

The last person in the team then introduced himself.

He was a young man and looked around the age of Lukas.

"I’m Harianto." Harianto reached out his hand for a handshake.

Lukas shook his hand with Harianto and said, "Pleased to meet you."

Harianto had a tanned body, but his looks and demeanor were like a student.

"Now that we know each other. Time to pick up the phone." Riley said.

Ring.

Lukas’s phone rang right after that, and he went and picked up his phone.

On the other end, the Director spoke.

"Someone’s finding trouble with you. Join Riley’s team for the time being while I deal with them."

"I will." Lukas replied.

"Good. Tell Riley that you agreed and follow him." The Director said and ended the call.

It was just as Lukas thought.

And this was the reason why he registered as an awakened.

At least the Awakened Center didn’t take matters lightly if the awakened tried to kill each other within the city.

It would be impossible for the central administration to organize the awakened to fight the demonic beasts if they had free reign.

"The Director told me what’s happening. I agree to his arrangements." Lukas said.

"Welcome to the Riley team." Riley said and took out an insignia from his pocket and passed it to Lukas.

Lukas took the insignia and glanced at it.

It had cute chibi faces of five people on it.

And underneath the insignia were the words "Riley’s Team".

Lukas instantly recognized all the faces, Riley, Rex, Emma, Harianto and himself.

It felt weird to him, but he was glad as this meant that he didn’t have to fight alone anymore.

"Put it on your left shoulder if you want to." Riley said.

Harianto walked over and wanted to help.

He peeled off the sticker behind the insignia and slapped it onto the left shoulder of Lukas.

Harianto then noticed the holes on his armor that were sustained when Lukas fought with the Skeleton Team and Pak Yun.

"Come to our lair and I can get it repaired." Harianto said.

Lukas glanced down at his armor, and he nodded.

"Yeah. We better get going before they make a move." Rex said as he peeked his head out of the door at the corridor.

Riley nodded and said, "Pack up your stuff and we leave immediately."

Lukas quickly put his daily essential items and clothes into his Darkmatter Vault Armor within minutes.

And they left his home after that.

Riley team’s lair was a building that was near the Awakened Center.

The building was behind huge fences and when they entered through the fences, the building revealed itself.

The building looked modern with its pristine white walls.

A pool with clear blue water was beside it.

After they entered the lair, Lukas took a moment to have a look at the interior.

The interior was furnished with wooden furniture and paintings on the wall.

A huge difference to where he was staying.

That dark and tiny room paled in comparison.

Harianto then showed Lukas to his room on the second floor, while the others made their way back to their rooms.

Lukas was surprised that they had gotten the room for his arrival and everything he needed was already inside.

A feat considering how little time they must have had to prepare for it.

He walked over and pushed down onto the bed.

The mattress was soft, and it depressed downwards.

Lukas sat onto the bed and said, "Thanks so much for this."

Harianto shrugged and said, "You are part of the team now, and in our team, we look out for each other.

"Have a good night’s rest first, I will fix your armor tomorrow."

He said and left the room while waving his hand at Lukas.

Lukas nodded and after he closed the door, he summoned Shiba out of his summoner space.
