Chapter 34: Pak Yun

Lukas glanced over at Shiba, slurping up the steaks, one after another.

This time, he gave Shiba a smile and patted it on its head.

He had gotten a small fortune thanks to Skull, so he wasn’t too worried about spending the money on steaks.

Besides, Shiba had turned out to be a great help.

He might not have been able to defeat the Skeleton Team without Shiba.

"You did well. But..." Lukas frowned, gave out a sigh, and said, "How were you so weak when I saw you?"

After today’s battle, Lukas started to have questions about Shiba.

Where did Shiba come from?

And why was Shiba so weak when he met Shiba?

Lukas thought it might be important for him to find out.

But before that, he had someone else to deal with first.

He took out Skull’s phone and unlocked it.

Lukas opened the messaging app and typed a message into the input box.

[It’s done. The target is dead. I have his severed head with me if you want to verify.]

He tapped on the ’send’ button and waited for a response.

It didn’t take long for a reply to come.

[Really?! Best thing I’ve heard this week.]

Lukas typed in another message and sent it.

[Yes, I don’t have time for banter. Meet me outside the city tomorrow 4 miles north in the woods at noon, after you exit from the checkpoint. I’m not going to risk bringing a severed head of an awakened into the city.]

Lukas waited as he saw the status bar with the words "Pak Soon Hyun is typing...".

And the next second, Pak Soon Hyun replied.

[All right, I shall be there.]

Lukas gave a determined look as he kept the phone.

It was time to settle the score.

He wasn’t going to be like a sitting duck waiting to be killed.

Time for him to strike.

...

Next day.

Lukas woke up in the morning, and he travelled to the checkpoint.

He wasted no time after getting through the checkpoint and got to where he had designated as the meeting place immediately.

First, he dug out some of the soil, poured water over it, and molded the mud into the shape of a head.

Then, he placed the ’head’ into a piece of cloth and wrapped it.

Lukas also familiarized the surroundings with Shiba.

Knowing where there was cover might be crucial in the heat of battle.

He was sure that Pak Soon Hyun wouldn’t be coming alone.

The Pak family wasn’t going to let him venture out of the city without an entourage of bodyguards.

Lukas then waited in the shadows of the trees patiently for Pak Soon Hyun to arrive.

...

Pak Soon Hyun sat in the back of the limousine nervously.

He looked out of the window as the sceneries began to turn from nice-looking tall buildings to dilapidated houses.

He knew they were getting nearer to the edge of the city.

Throughout his life, he had never ventured out so far.

Pak Soon Hyun had expected to be venturing out of the city only after his training at the Awakened Academy.

They were all registered as awakened, but most wouldn’t venture out before receiving the necessary training.

The thought of this made Pak Soon Hyun curse at Lukas.

"Damn you for making me go so far."

Pak Soon Hyun said and punched his fist at the leather seat of the limousine in frustration.

"Are you sure about Skull?" The man sitting at the front turned back and asked.

He had a long scar on the right side of his face, starting from his forehead to his chin.

Pak Soon Hyun sat upright and replied with a soft voice, "Yes, uncle. They are a reputed team. Never failed in any missions so far."

His uncle, Pak Yun, nodded his head, turned away, and kept quiet.

Soon, they reached the checkpoint, and they alighted the limousine.

Their limousine caught the attention of all the awakened who were waiting to be cleared from the checkpoint.

"Look at that beauty."

"Wait... Don’t look and keep quiet."

One of the awakened recognized who Pak Yun was and advised his teammate to keep quiet.

He had seen the ruthlessness of Pak Yun.

Demonic beasts and awakened were slaughtered by Pak Yun in cold blood.

And when complaints were made to the Awakened Center, Pak Yun was able to absolve himself from all the charges with the resources from the Pak family.

After that, no one dared to make much noise about Pak Yun.

Pak Yun was forced by the Pak family to keep a low profile after that.

Many of the awakened began to wonder what had made Pak Yun step out into the limelight again.

They then saw a young man standing beside him.

Pak Soon Hyun.

The heir to the Pak family.

It finally clicked for them.

What reason could there be other than the heir of the family.

They kept quiet as they saw Pak Yun and Pak Soon Hyun clearing the checkpoint without the need to stand in line.

...

As noon drew near, Lukas stood up on full alert.

He waited as he focused and listened to the noises in the surroundings.

There were howling and growls from the demonic beasts roaming in the woods.

And there were insects chirping and animals scurrying around, trying to survive.

Rustle.

The foliage near where he was rustled in a steady rhythm, and he got ready.

The rhythm was the same as footsteps of a human being.

And from the sound of it, there were two people approaching.

Lukas took out the skeleton mask from his Darkmatter Vault Armor and wore it.

He also picked up the ’head’ wrapped in a cloth bundle in his hand.

"Shiba, go and hide behind the rock like I’ve told you earlier." Lukas summoned Shiba from his summon space.

He patted on Shiba’s head and pointed to a rock that was to the right of where he was standing.

Shiba nodded and did as instructed.

After a few moments of silence, a voice boomed in the air.

"Skull, where the hell is your team?" Pak Soon Hyun shouted as he emerged from the trees.

Another person followed closely behind.

Lukas glanced carefully at the person.
