Chapter 982: Sphinx 2

Chapter 982: Chapter 982: Sphinx 2

This place has nothing else but the "Pyramid" in front of their eyes, so the so-called King’s sword can only be on this tower.

The three of them continued to climb upwards.

Under the scorching sun, the solid, flat stones gradually heated up. The higher they went, the closer to the sun they got, the more unbearably hot it became.

Not knowing how many layers they had climbed, they stopped to rest. Looking down from their high position, they saw Xiaoxin puffing and panting as he ascended the steps below, and they all started laughing.

"That kid’s not too bad, how come he hasn’t tumbled down on his butt!" a thin, tall man called out.

Xiaoxin’s movements halted; he looked up at them, then turned his gaze away and rested where he was.

He consistently maintained a distance of over twenty steps from those three.

"Hey!" the thin man called out again with a teasing laugh, "Kid, aren’t you in a hurry? If you don’t catch up, we’re going to snatch the sword away!"

Xiaoxin ignored them, silently took out some water from his backpack to drink, looking very collected.

This made the thin man lose face, and he grabbed a handful of pebbles with the intention to throw them, but a person next to him stopped him.

"Daniel," a dark-skinned, burly man said. "He’s just a kid."

"I know," the thin man chuckled, "just playing with him~"

With that, he threw the handful of pebbles—

The small stones tumbled and bounced down the steps, scattering thinly around Xiaoxin, with one or two hitting his back. He looked back at them for a moment.

Daniel, the thin man, broke into a grin, pleased with his prank.

Xiaoxin frowned slightly, "Childish."

Daniel: "..."

Xiaoxin pulled out a folding umbrella from his bag, opened it, and shielded himself, continuing to rest.

Daniel scoffed, "The little brat is pretty arrogant."

He was bored and looked up at the sky; the sun was so intense it made the skin itch, and the air was unusually dry and hot.

"If I had known, I would have brought an umbrella in." Daniel flattened an empty water bottle he had finished drinking from and rummaged through his bag, finding nothing to shade himself with.

"Do any of you still have water?" another companion named Mute asked. "I only brought one bottle."

The African man took a bottle out of his bag and passed it over, "Why didn’t you bring more?"

"Who knew we would come across such a game, and the preparation time was rushed..." Mute tilted his head to drink water, relieving the dryness and heat, "I think we can slow down now, this Pyramid is too high, the sun is too harsh, climbing too fast is unbearable."

Daniel disagreed: "There’s no shade or shelter here, if you climb too slowly, aren’t you afraid of getting sun-dried? Better to hurry up and rest where there are trees!"

Mute frowned, "But there’s still a long way to the trees..."

Daniel pointed down, "That kid down there isn’t even complaining."

Mute, still frowning, turned to the African man, "Bruce, what do you think?"

Bruce said in a deep voice, "We don’t have much water, moving too fast can easily lead to exhaustion, and heatstroke would be bad, so we should maintain a moderate pace. It is noon now, and it won’t be so hot once the sun goes down."

Mute nodded, "That’s right, we can speed up when the sun sets."

Daniel curled his lip and lazily replied, "Alright, let’s do it that way then."

After resting for a few more minutes, the three packed up and began to climb again.

Xiaoxin kept an eye on them, and when he saw them move, he quickly packed up and followed suit.

It was getting hotter.

The giant stone steps were scorching, and in the distance, the hazy tree shadows seemed increasingly unreachable through the heatwaves.

The trio ahead were inevitably drenched in sweat, and their water supply was quickly depleted.

Daniel looked down and discovered Xiaoxin was still closely following them, which set his temper ablaze.

"Damn it, why is this little brat still following us?"

He stopped, took off his backpack, and pulled out a slingshot.

"What are you doing?" Bruce frowned. "He’s just a kid."

"Even if it’s just a kid, he’s still the enemy," Daniel aimed at Xiaoxin below, his mouth curving into a smirk, "Wouldn’t it be good to nip potential trouble in the bud?"
