Chapter 1137: Chapter 1139: The Terror Claw Beast_1 Chapter 1137: Chapter 1139: The Terror Claw Beast_1 Song Jian had spent an entire morning in the stone tower before he walked out, his face filled with shock.
From the outside, the tower appeared to be only a few hundred square meters, but inside it employed a divine art similar to a space spell. Just the first floor, which held some of the less important documents, covered nearly ten acres. There were over ten thousand books, with historical records that could be traced back a hundred thousand years–a feat unimaginable in the real world.
Outside the stone tower, Cecilia had been waiting the whole time. Seeing Song Jian come out, she seemed to have guessed his thoughts. With a calm face and a hint of pride, she said, “My god is one of the ancient deities with the longest existence. The divine power is as vast as the universe itself. The knowledge you have just seen is less than one millionth of what my god has recorded. If you’re willing to believe in my god and own the identity of a divine child, you can freely enter and leave my god’s Divine Country. There, you will truly understand what is insignificant and what is magnificent!”
Massaging his slightly swollen temples, Song Jian showed a wry smile and shook his head lightly. “I don’t need to go to the Divine Country to understand the greatness under the Goddess of Dawn. Still, thank you, Cecilia. The knowledge here has indeed been of great help to me!”
In fact, Song Jian had found not only information about the Sword Sect while inside, but also many other pieces of knowledge that piqued his interest. And from looking through enough books, he even unexpectedly received an attribute notification of “Knowledge +1”.
The “Knowledge” attribute, similar to the Will attribute, is a secondary attribute that cannot be seen in the attribute interface unless it is activated. Now, after increasing one point in the Knowledge attribute, at the very bottom of the attribute interface, following the Will attribute, the line “Knowledge: 7” appeared.
The Will attribute can increase the chances of resisting charm-type skills and also provides a certain increase in resistance. In harsh environments, it reduces the rate of Vitality Points loss, among other things. Although it may not seem very significant, it often plays a key role in many situations.
The Knowledge attribute works similarly, enhancing the effects of detection-type skills, increasing skill power, and even allowing one to analyze the opponent’s skill moves during battle. There is a certain chance to spot the flaws in an opponent’s moves, leading to a breach of their technique;
“How is it? Did you gain the knowledge you were hoping for?” Cecilia asked Song Jian with a smile.
“Once again, thank you for your help, Cecilia!” Song Jian replied with gratitude and a bow. “I have found out what I wanted to know, and much more than I had expected.”
“That’s good.” Cecilia nodded and added, “You seem so interested in the Sword Sect. You wouldn’t be thinking of joining a similar faction, would you? If so, I must warn you that even though numerous gods have fallen after several battles among the divinities, it is still the age of the gods. Even the Sword Sect, once unparalleled in might ten thousand years ago, ultimately faced destruction under the radiance of the gods. Therefore, even if you seek greater power, you must always hold reverence for the deities in your heart!”
Song Jian felt a chill in his heart and nodded slowly. At the pinnacle of power in the entire world were still deities like the Goddess of Dawn, who had existed for tens or even hundreds of thousands of years. These deities’ power was unfathomable. In the eyes of these gods, Song Jian was probably less than an ant. If not for his status as the City Lord, which allowed the deities to harvest the Power of Faith, perhaps even a priest of the gods like Cecilia would not bother to give him a second glance.
Just as Song Jian was about to bid farewell to Cecilia and return to the City Lord Mansion, a piercing alarm suddenly resonated across the skies above the city.
Song Jian frowned slightly and looked into the distance. Many NPC city guards were marching towards the edge of the city. In the distant sky, amidst the Protection Black Mist, hazy figures of a large swarm of monsters were approaching, quickly flying towards the City of Hope.
“It’s those Abyssal monsters again!” Cecilia slapped her forehead and said in a low voice, “Every few days, these creatures come to harass us. It’s really a headache.”
“Cecilia, I’m going to check the walls. I’m heading off,” Song Jian nodded to Cecilia and spread his steel wings, flying off into the distance.
Cecilia watched Song Jian’s departing figure for a while before suddenly sighing, shaking her head slightly, and turning back to the temple.
She could clearly sense that Song Jian held no awe for the gods, only caution and vigilance–a complex psychology of the weak towards the powerful, starkly different from the reverence ordinary people felt towards deities.
“I hope we will not become enemies in the future,” Cecilia muttered to herself as she gazed after Song Jian.
By now, Song Jian had reached the edge of the City of Hope, where several battle fortresses were constructed. On the tall city walls, siege crossbows were slowly drawing their strings. Crossbow bolts, over five meters long and as thick as arms, aimed at the abyssal demons that had penetrated the Protection Black Mist.
These abyssal demons had dark red skin, with a pair of ram-like horns atop their heads and bat-like leathery wings behind them. With each breath they took, a mix of sparks and black smoke poured out of their nostrils and mouths.
The hands of this group of abyssal demons were terrifying claws, almost larger than their bodies and resembling three-pronged tridents, glinting with a cold metallic luster.
Song Jian noticed that these abyssal demons bore a seventy to eighty percent resemblance to the goat-faced demon he had encountered in Abyssal Hell, only these had an additional pair of wings and claws.
“Abyss Claw Beasts, level sixty monsters…” Song Jian squinted, activating the Eye of Insight to assess the creatures’ attributes.
“Damn it, these are all around level sixty. My attacks are going to be weakened by at least 20%…” A player holding something like a monocular muttered under his breath while watching the rapidly approaching monsters.
Song Jian glanced at the players defending the battle fortresses, whose levels were mostly above forty-five with the highest just forty-eight. Facing monsters over ten levels above them was definitely causing them significant stress.
Seeing a hint of fear on the players’ faces, Song Jian furrowed his brow, motioned with his right hand, and the Sky-breaking Sword materialized in his grasp. He swung it forward vigorously, and a sharp Sword Qi tore through the air, instantly splitting from one to two, two to four, four to eight…
In a short time, densely packed Spirit Swords, numbering more than three hundred, floated above the battle fortress. After a brief pause, these Spirit Swords swept through the air like birds, drawing elegant arcs as they flew towards the group of incoming Abyss Claw Beasts.
