Chapter 904: Chapter 904 Resting Door

You poked your head out and took a look to find a small grove outside, with no patrol teams around.

"Young Master Luo, I have a feeling something’s not right." During your brief interaction with Shi Kai, you had learned that he was a man of few words, eloquent in his silence, appearing cool and detached, yet with a warm heart.

"Uh-huh, you’re thinking correctly. There’s definitely something fishy here. I bet as soon as we step out, we’ll be turned into pincushions by a barrage of arrows. Heh, what a vicious strategy. It seems they really want us dead."

"I’ll draw them away!"

Seeing Shi Kai ready to bolt, you quickly grabbed his right arm and shook your head at him, "No! I’ll draw them away. You must hurry to Zhongshu Province and find my brother, Luo Xin!"

"But..."

"There’s no time to hesitate. I always felt like I was their target. I even think they’ve laid out this entire trap just to kill me. You hide first. In a moment, I’ll distract them, and when the opportunity arises, make your escape. You have to find my brother; my father must be ambushed by now!"

There was no time for Shi Kai to argue with you. He nodded, his voice firm as he said, "Young Master Luo, you must survive. I’ll bring help to save you quickly!"

"Alright!" You answered and then darted out. Just as you had expected, no sooner had you dashed out of the prison than someone behind you cried out, "There’s a fugitive on the run!"

"Release arrows!"

"To death!" You never imagined someone could hate you so much and be so ruthless.

"Thwack!" An arrow suddenly embedded in the earth merely ten centimeters from your ankle, nearly toppling you over. Then, you could only hear the deadly whistling of arrows behind you. With a forceful stamp of your right foot, you hurled your body forward to the right. Even so, a sharp agony still struck your back in the process.

"Damn!" You yanked the arrow out from your back, not even having the time to feel the wound, and simply sprinted forward at increased speed.

"Don’t let the fugitive escape. Cavalry Team, pursue! The fugitive is extremely dangerous. Kill on resistance!"

The voice belonged to a rugged man, someone you would never forget in this lifetime. Soon, you heard the galloping of horses behind you. Yet, in that instant, your supreme recovery power kicked in. The pain in your back seemed to vanish, and though the Gate of Life remained unactivated, it was subtly transforming your body. You pushed yourself even harder towards the small grove not far ahead.

"Halt!"

The voices of your pursuers grew louder, but thankfully, some bushes slowed their advance. Otherwise, they would have caught up with you already. The long-distance running was taking its toll on your strength, yet you were relieved to see the thicket ahead growing denser, signaling even slower progress for your pursuers.

However, just as you burst through the thick bushes, you were flabbergasted—"This is not fair play!"

You wondered if this was all a ploy crafted by the enemy—and if so, they were indeed despicably cunning. Because what now lay before you was a vast plain, and on the horizon stood the towering walls of Chang’an City. By your reckoning, it would take at least half an hour to reach the city on foot, but the pursuers on horseback would have caught up long before that.

"No other choice!" You suddenly roared and dashed forward with all your might. And yet, the sound of hooves from behind approached ever closer; you could almost sense the cold steel of the pursuers’ blades.

At this point, there was nothing you could do but run. Run for your life!

"Whiz—thwack!" Another arrow whizzed by! You were taken aback by how close it came, barely missing you—there were Cavalry Archers among your chasers. The person orchestrating this was truly sinister!

All you could do was run, run until you couldn’t feel the wind, couldn’t sense the air around you, couldn’t even feel your own legs.

Run!!

"The Resting door. Supreme Body Technique, Leisurely Walk."

At this moment, something occurred that made you want to kiss the very ground beneath your feet—the spell for the Resting door appeared in your mind, meant to enhance one’s speed and movement technique!

"Resting door, Activate!"

A faint blue glow emanated from your body. The pursuers behind could only watch as the fugitive before them appeared like the heroes from tales, nearly leaping and bounding across the ground.

"Haha, try catching up now, you cowards!" Once the Resting door activated, you felt light as a feather, nearly soaring, like an untamed stallion galloping freely across the plains in an "S" pattern, making it impossible for the Cavalry Archers behind to aim.

As the walls of Chang’an City drew closer, the heavy stone in your heart finally began to ease.

You knew that once you entered Chang’an City, these men wouldn’t be able to carry out their deeds so freely. Then, the true arbiters of right and wrong would no longer be up to that person behind the scenes!

Yet whether through cunning design or ill fate, as you looked towards the city gate, a Cavalry Team suddenly burst forth! Your heart didn’t leap for joy at their appearance since they had already drawn the choppers from their waists!

"&#@#%&!" Your current state of mind couldn’t be expressed with mere expletives!

This enemy was too cunning, too astute, and too damn despicable! Simultaneously, you noticed the pursuers fanning out behind you, ready to close in like packers making dumplings to gobble you up.

"Aim!" The pursuers didn’t come closer but prepared their bows and arrows instead.

"Dammit! I’ve really got no way out now!"

"Fire!"

Those black arrow shafts poured down like rain, each one lethal, each one relentless in pursuit.

However, just when you were prepared to meet your end, an enormous voice thundered between heaven and earth, resonating loudly like thunder, "Who dares harm my brother!"

You saw a shadow that was faster than the arrows swiftly arrive beside you, followed by a wave of the hand, an invisible Gang Qi shielded you both, causing a cacophony of "ding ding dang dang" as the myriad arrows struck the Gang Qi.

Upon seeing the newcomer, you cheered, "Elder brother!"

Indeed, it was none other than your elder brother, Luo Xin! At this moment, Luo Xin was still in his government attire, holding a long brush, though his face no longer bore its usual gentle and scholarly composure. Instead, it was steel-hard, brimming with a chilling aura of death.
