Chapter 364: Chapter 120: Attitude Change Often Occurs After the Display of Strength_6
The door opened.
A woman opened the door, her face made up—wait, why was she wearing makeup?
"Hello," Lin Fan said with a smile.
"Come in."
Upon entering the house, Lin Fan slightly furrowed his brow; there was an odor in the air, a scent that seemed like blood. Moreover, he noticed the sounds of low, guttural growls from zombies behind the tightly closed doors.
"Why are you holding a mirror up to me? Is there something you need?"
He observed the woman, dressed in a thin nightgown; overall, there was something inexplicably strange about her. There were definitely zombies in the house, yet this female survivor behaved so nonchalantly, exuding an indescribable air of seductiveness.
"I’m very afraid," the woman said, wanting to move closer to Lin Fan, to cry in his embrace.
But as she approached, Lin Fan pushed her away.
"Please have some self-respect. What is it you want to talk about?"
Lin Fan was resistant to this type of situation. It’s okay to want a hug if you’re scared, but could you please dress properly? Don’t be like this; I’m only twenty, still very young.
The woman seemed not to have expected that there would be a male survivor like him.
She took the initiative to approach him, yet he pushed her away.
Prior male survivors who had come here were all smiles, hugging her close, their hands wandering dishonestly across her back.
"Can you take me and my child away from here?" the woman asked pitifully.
Lin Fan asked, "Where is the child?"
"In the room," the woman pointed to a room.
Lin Fan looked at that room. He could say with one hundred percent certainty that there were zombies inside, definitely zombies.
He approached the door.
His palm rested on the doorknob.
The woman’s expression changed slightly, as if she was anticipating something.
Lin Fan turned to the woman and said, "I can sense that there are zombies locked up in here. What exactly is it that you want me to do by bringing me to this room, or do you intend for me to go in as food for the zombies?"
As he spoke these words.
The woman’s expression underwent a dramatic transformation.
Click!
The door opened.
The room was pitch black.
He turned on the light and was shocked to see a child zombie, only about seven or eight years old, swaying against the wall.
Logically, the noise of opening the door should have alerted the zombie.
How come the zombie seemed as if it hadn’t heard anything?
Could it be that it had a hearing problem?
The room was in complete disarray, with blood on the walls. He could see a man’s corpse, its head gnawed off and lying nearby. Clearly, others had been here before him, deceived by the woman, and ultimately met a grisly end.
At that moment.
The woman appeared behind Lin Fan, and with a fierce push, she tried to shove Lin Fan inside. As she pushed, she threw a beverage bottle at the zombie, then attempted to close the door.
But she didn’t expect the unyielding Lin Fan standing at the doorway to remain immovable.
The struck zombie reacted, turned around, its mouth dripping with thick fluid, and growled as it lunged in their direction.
Lin Fan lifted his foot and kicked, sending the zombie flying with a bang.
"Ah, my baby!"
The woman saw her child hit the wall and screamed, running inside to check on the baby.
The child zombie’s head was dented but still able to move. It opened its mouth, growling fiercely and began savagely biting at the woman’s neck, frenziedly feeding on her.
Blood splattered immediately, and the woman screamed in agony.
Seeing this scene, Lin Fan frowned.
The bitten woman’s eyes rolled, her pupils turned pale, and in a very short time, she transformed into a zombie and, along with the child zombie, charged at Lin Fan.
Lin Fan lifted his foot and kicked twice with some force, directly sending them crashing into the wall, where their bodies split open and lay quietly, motionless.
He closed the door.
"How could such beings exist, she wanted to use me as food for her child."
Lin Fan shook his head.
He went into the living room.
He saw a picture on the living room wall, a family of three, smiling happily, brimming with joy.
In the picture, the child with a cochlear implant was hugging the woman’s neck and smiling happily.
That explained why there was no noise — the child had hearing issues.
Then,
he saw a book on the dining table and picked it up to read.
"The Path of Evolution"
He flipped through it.
Soon, he found out why the woman had done such a thing — the book detailed that the evolution of species required consuming a large amount of energy and when the energy reached a certain level, profound transformations could occur.
He instantly understood.
The woman had tricked him into entering to let her child consume him and gain energy.
"Did she hope her child would get enough energy to evolve back to what it once was?"
"That’s really a terrible idea."
"This book is clearly a piece of nonsensical heresy, yet in times of despair, it becomes a lifeline desperately clung to by others."
"I can appreciate the greatness of your maternal love, but I can’t understand you transferring a great disaster onto someone else."
He put down the book.
He stared at the trash can at his feet, where used condoms lay, instantly deducing the entire sequence of events — attracting males in, then playing poker, depleting the men’s physical strength, before finally sending them through that door.
"Ah."
Shaking his head, he turned to leave.
He couldn’t accept this situation.
Maybe he acknowledged that in peaceful times, this woman was a kind-hearted person, but in the apocalypse, when people around her were affected, she could commit all sorts of evil for her loved ones.
People who were full of hope and kindness transformed into frightful beings upon seeing them.
...
Night.
Lin Fan sat at his computer desk reviewing the area, marking one place after another, all of which he had already cleared.
During this time,
the area he cleaned expanded daily.
If there were any survivors living within this area,
then there was a certain level of safety.
They might occasionally encounter one or two zombies.
But they would never encounter hordes of thousands of zombies.
Lin Fan leaned back in his chair, his head tilted back, staring at the ceiling.
"Life is indeed beautiful, but sometimes the things you encounter can really be upsetting."
He sighed.
He thought about protecting the Sunshine District, about clearing the zombies in Yellow City, dreaming about restoring its former prosperity and peace.
But all these thoughts were so challenging.
"Need to keep pushing tomorrow."
"Let’s go."
He clenched his fist, encouraging himself.
