Lin Fan shared some of his experiences with them.
Yang Rong nodded, thinking about the earlier situation where everything others said was true, yet he had been full of doubts. Reflecting on it now, it indeed felt quite embarrassing.
Lin Fan said, "Have you ever thought about changing your living environment? The Sunshine District is renting to outsiders, and you all meet the criteria. I think living in the Sunshine District, we could support and help each other."
If it were any other survivor, they would agree without a second thought. Having such a strong support to rely on would be incredibly comforting.
"No, it’s very difficult to form a fully functional shelter. The Sunshine District is somewhat far from where we are, and Huang City is so big. I think having shelters like this in various places provides hope for survivors, as you mentioned, a Land of Hope."
This was the idea he came up with after some thought.
Indeed, moving to the Sunshine District would mean no worries about danger and living there comfortably, but the shelter they built together was not one person’s shelter, it was a shelter for all those filled with hope.
Lin Fan said, "I respect your choice, and if you truly find yourselves in danger, just hide in the basement. I’ll pass by here from time to time."
"Thank you," Yang Rong thought about Lin Fan’s strength; indeed, it was beyond what ordinary people could comprehend.
Yang Lu asked curiously, "Big Brother Lin, did you become so strong because of the crystals? The crystals we obtain are all used to enhance our defense. After verification by my brother and me, crystals seem to only cause a revolutionary improvement in metallic substances."
"No, I didn’t use the crystals to enhance my strength. You are right, up to now, crystals can only improve metallic substances," Lin Fan replied.
Yang Lu felt a bit regretful.
How great it would be if they could improve physical abilities.
Then humans could really stand up to zombies, using zombie strength to defeat zombies.
The three of them chatted.
After this incident, Yang Rong and Yang Lu took Lin Fan around to see everything, showing him the internal structure of their place, which was a drastic change from their previous simple interactions.
Trust is built up slowly through long-term interaction.
Another way is to exhibit absolutely overwhelming strength, making the other party realize that you are already so powerful; why would you need to deceive them for their trust when you could just overpower anything with your strength?
This builds trust fastest.
After a while.
Lin Fan bade them farewell.
Yang Lu and Yang Rong walked him to the door.
"Keep fighting. I believe in a bright future. I’m always clearing out the zombies in Huang City, and I believe one day, we’ll be able to cheer and shout freely outdoors without being chased or bitten by zombies," Lin Fan said resolutely to them.
It was truly not easy to find survivors outside of the Sunshine District who were still human at heart.
They never abandoned each other, never gave up, and were willing to contribute to one another.
Yang Rong said, "Keep it up."
Yang Lu said, "I always hold hope for the future."
On the streets.
Lin Fan thought about the survivor’s shelter of today.
All the shelters combined probably housed thousands of people, good and bad, but all were living.
He walked a great distance.
Many zombies roamed the streets, groaning incessantly, indeed very docile without any external influence, but... just like that.
"Hey," he greeted them.
Instantly, the groans intensified, and they all pounced towards him.
Looking closely, one could see a naked figure among the zombies with two iron rings embedded in its upper body, which honestly, did detract from the image.
He continued to clear them out.
Whenever he encountered zombies, he would clean them up, especially as this area was not far from the previous shelter. Wandering... could easily reach over there.
A moment later.
The surroundings grew quiet again, everything returned to how it was before, with just those bodies lying on the ground.
He passed a small shop.
Walking into the shop, he opened the fridge, bought a bottle of Coke, twisted off the cap, and drank noisily, burping with satisfaction, very comfortable indeed. Life proceeded in cycles of clearing zombies and occasional enjoyment.
Just as he tilted his head back to drink the Coke.
He narrowed his eyes slightly; from a building in the distance, someone seemed to be using a mirror to reflect light into his eyes.
"Survivor?" he wondered.
Surely, it must be a survivor doing such a thing. Could a zombie clumsily handle a mirror to reflect light at someone?
He walked towards that direction.
He arrived in front of a building and looked up. The light was coming from the seventh floor.
Buildings like this were common in Huang City, with shops below and not part of a district, just a standalone building there.
The ground was littered with many zombie bodies, seemingly crushed to death, and the bloodstains on the ground had already coagulated.
A jeep was parked at the entrance.
Without overthinking it, he walked indoors. There seemed to be no zombies, so if it was a survivor, they should be able to drive away.
He took the elevator, thinking of the seventh floor, but to his surprise, it required a card to access. Suddenly, he noticed a card on the elevator floor, swiped it, and the elevator began to move slowly up towards the seventh floor.
Arriving on the seventh floor.
The elevator door opened.
He stood in front of the security door and said softly, "Excuse me, is anyone there?"
Survivors hiding at home were rare, unless they had stocked up plenty of supplies. Otherwise, who could hold out at home for over a month?
Just as he finished speaking.
