Chapter 69: Threat

"Why?" Luis was confused, being told that his courage was far from infinite.

"You’ll have to figure that out yourself," replied Madam Sofia with a smile, only making Luis more confused.

It wasn’t like he had no suspicions, but he found it unlikely that Madam Sofia was referring to his lack of courage simply because he hadn’t dared to flirt with her, even though he was clearly attracted to her.

Yes, if he had limitless courage, wouldn’t he have tried to seduce her without caring about her views on him?

However, the woman he truly wanted to date was Alice.

He was merely captivated by Madam Sofia because that was unavoidable for any normal man.

Unless, of course, he had a very liberal ideology where dating just one woman wasn’t enough.

Luis remained doubtful, unable to say anything, only continuing to follow Madam Sofia’s movements while occasionally glancing at her exceptionally beautiful face.

"Madam, wouldn’t Mr. Zarion be upset if you danced with another man?" Luis changed the topic, recalling that Madam Sofia was supposedly Mr. Zarion’s lover.

"I’m not sure, but I don’t think he’ll find out. There’s no one from his organization here besides the two of us, and he wouldn’t bother investigating what I do on this island," Madam Sofia replied.

"Why, are you scared?" she added with a chuckle.

If the man weren’t an S-Rank Awakener, Luis naturally wouldn’t care. But he was an S-Rank Awakener.

This wasn’t someone Luis could afford to cross.

"Luis, if you’re afraid of him, then I guarantee—you’ll never surpass him in your lifetime," said Madam Sofia.

"Who’s afraid of him?" Luis naturally didn’t want to be called a coward, nor would he ever admit to fearing another person.

If he did, then his ambitions would no longer be worth anything.

"Good. You must not be afraid if you want to become a great hero for Velos," said Madam Sofia.

Luis nodded, showing deep determination.

Madam Sofia smiled, seemingly satisfied by his resolve.

Just then, the music session ended, so everyone dancing had no choice but to stop.

Luis and Madam Sofia also stopped, though Luis wished it could’ve gone on longer.

Of course, he couldn’t shamelessly insist that Madam Sofia keep dancing with him without any music.

"You don’t look satisfied," said Madam Sofia, reading his mind just from his expression.

"But if we keep going, I’m afraid people will go home sad—and that just doesn’t fit after a party," she added.

Luis could only smile awkwardly at that.

"Come on, let’s go back and sit," said Madam Sofia, walking back to their table as Liam had returned to his friends with a scowl.

He looked at Luis with anger, making Luis feel slightly uncomfortable.

He knew he had struck his heart quite hard.

Back at the table, Luis drank a glass of cold juice to cool his heated body.

The next song started playing, but fewer people were dancing now since some had already left.

Of course, this massive cruise ship was already far out at sea—it wasn’t like people could just leave.

They had only gone below deck, to more private areas, accompanied by the hostesses.

Luis started sensing malicious intent once more.

The people who had considered robbing him might be thinking about trying again after briefly forgetting due to the party.

But who would make the first move?

At this point, Luis himself was starting to feel like robbing someone too.

It wasn’t like there weren’t any items that interested him—one of them was a Tier-1 Wind Spirit won by Tyler.

While thinking about that, he saw Paul approaching them again.

He probably wanted to borrow the Double Power Mirror from Madam Sofia again, even though she had previously rejected him.

Was he trying to borrow it again now?

"Sofia!" Paul sat right in front of Madam Sofia without hesitation, not even asking if he could sit.

"What is it?" asked Madam Sofia in response, frowning because she disliked having to reject someone’s request more than once.

When asked, Paul suddenly showed her the screen of his phone.

Luis could clearly see the screen too, since he was sitting right next to her.

What was shown on the screen shocked him.

A young red-haired man was locked up on a bed surrounded by iron bars.

It was clearly Thomas.

"You!" Madam Sofia’s breath quickened the moment she saw it.

Of course, there was no way she could remain calm seeing her son captured.

"I didn’t want to do this to you, but you forced my hand by refusing to lend me the Double Power Mirror," said Paul casually.

"But if you lend it to me, I swear I’ll release your son immediately and return the mirror to you once I’m done using it. I’ll even help you and Luis return safely to Velos 33. No one here will dare rob you if I’m guarding you."

His words only made Madam Sofia even angrier.

"Paul, I thought you were a simple man, but it turns out you’re more cunning than the rest. While others only think of robbing me, you went further and kidnapped my son," she said.

"Borrowing is different from robbing. Those who rob never return what they take," replied Paul.

"In my opinion, robbing is braver than borrowing like this," said Luis, unable to stay silent.

He wasn’t afraid of Paul—how could he not defend Madam Sofia when someone was bullying her with underhanded tactics?

Hearing his words, Paul looked like he’d just been slapped in the face.

He was shocked and stunned, staring at Luis in disbelief because he never expected him to dare speak like that.

"Boy, who gave you the guts to speak like that? Just because you’re also at Level C, don’t think you can talk to me however you want," Paul snapped, not holding back.

"I’m just speaking the truth," replied Luis calmly.

"I wonder, if I capture you right now, will your men let Thomas go?" he asked then.

"What? Capture me? You want to capture me?"

Paul almost leapt in shock at the question.

Others hadn’t heard Luis’s words, but since Paul said them aloud, now everyone knew.

No one had expected Luis to say he would capture Paul.

Who did he think he was?

"Hmph!" Velika Aris, who had been watching from afar, smirked coldly.

She stepped toward Luis’s table.

It seemed she’d been waiting for a fight and wanted to join in to get revenge on Luis.

"Say that again, boy!" Paul suddenly stood and grabbed the collar of Luis’s shirt.

"Paul, you—let him go!" Madam Sofia also stood, scolding the bald man.

"Sofia, this is between me and him," Paul replied, clearly having no intention of letting Luis go.

Everyone was now excited to see this scene—this was what they had been waiting for.

With a little conflict, everything could erupt into full-blown chaos.

At that point, robbing others would no longer be shameful.

Those with robbery in mind started intensely eyeing their targets.

Naturally, Luis wasn’t the only one. Many others had also become targets after winning valuable treasures at the auction.

"I knew it—they’re going to ruin my cruise ship," muttered the plump middle-aged man on the bridge, watching everything unfold via CCTV.

That was, of course, Henry.

Beside him, the ship’s captain asked, "Boss, should we leave now?"

"Yes, let’s go. Let them do whatever they want. We’ve already paid for insurance," Henry replied.

The captain nodded and began ordering the crew to prepare the lifeboats.

They weren’t worried at all since the insurance would fully cover the damages.

But that didn’t mean the insurance company would suffer a loss by compensating for the cruise ship.

They were a powerful company. They could force those who damaged insured property to compensate them two to three times the cost.

That’s how they made profits—something only the powerful could do.

Quickly, the crew descended from the ship using lifeboats from the lower decks, so no one noticed them.

They left the LCs behind since they still had to entertain the guests.

For Henry, finding new LCs in this era wasn’t hard at all.

Besides, this didn’t mean they would die.

Some Awakeners could protect them and take them back to the mainland.

Once Henry and the crew left, the cruise ship now had no more navigators, continuing to drift into the vast ocean.

Its speed even increased dramatically.

"Boy, are you scared now?" Paul asked Luis because he didn’t say anything.

"Hahahaha, Paul, you’re overreacting. He’s just a hot-headed kid, but I think he does need to be taught a lesson." Liam suddenly arrived, laughing.

"If you want, I can help you beat him up. Anyway, if you do it yourself, I’m worried you might accidentally kill him. I heard he has a Black Diamond Armor Spirit. I really want to try hitting that armor to see if it’s stronger than my fist," he said, showing his hands, which had suddenly turned black, covered in a layer of iron.

It seemed he had the ability to attack physically.
