I Became the Billionaire's Fake Lover to Get My Revenge -
Chapter 59: Jealous
Chapter 59: Jealous
"When I was fifteen," Anna started carefully, still trying to figure out how and how much she could really tell about that incident. "I was assaulted and soon after I got pregnant."
"What?!" Gabriel exploded, his voice so loud that even the puppy jolted up, startled.
Anna leaned forward, her hands darting to his mouth as she covered it, her expression mortified. "Please, don’t scream. And let me tell this story first, okay? I’m afraid I won’t be able to finish if you keep interrupting me like that."
She gave him a challenging look, waiting for his submission. Gabriel kept looking back at her, his eyes unwavering, until he finally gave in, slowly nodding to agree to Anna’s terms.
She slowly removed her hands from his lips and continued. "It doesn’t matter who was the one who... touched me, but when Robert found out, he was furious with me. Back then, I understood his anger. We were already dating and my getting pregnant from someone else was not only horrifying on its own, but if word of that got out, our families would have been ruined."
"So he told me not to tell anyone, and as foolish as I was, I listened. I kept silent. But I needed help, so I turned to Marienne—she was still my friend back then. I didn’t know how to get an abortion without my father finding out, and I was desperate."
Anna swallowed, her fingers twisting together as she forced herself to continue.
"Marienne came up with an idea that, in my shock and panic, somehow seemed reasonable. She told me she had once read a news story about a man whose wife had cheated on him and gotten pregnant. To punish her and the unborn child, he took her to a lake in the dead of winter and forced her to stand in the freezing water for hours. She nearly froze to death. Needless to say, she miscarried."
Anna exhaled slowly, steadying herself before going on. "It was winter then too... So Marienne took me to the river, and I did what she told me to do. I stepped into the water and stood there. For God knows how long. Until the cold seeped so deep into my bones that I couldn’t feel anything anymore. Until my body finally gave out."
Her voice grew quieter. "I woke up in the hospital."
She fell silent, drawing a slow, shaky breath, fighting the burning pressure behind her eyes. Gabriel didn’t say a word, but the tight clench of his fists and the rigid set of his jaw betrayed the storm raging inside him. He was holding himself back. Barely.
"I did miscarry," she admitted at last. "But I never told anyone. After that night, though... I started having problems. My kidneys, my—" She hesitated, then pushed through. "My reproductive system. My kidneys eventually recovered, but everything else... well, it can’t be helped."
She finished her story and waited. But Gabriel remained silent.
The quiet stretched, thick and suffocating, pressing in on her until she couldn’t stand it anymore. She turned to him, her voice calm despite the turmoil still churning inside her.
"You can talk now. It’s okay."
"Why..." The word barely left his lips before he fell silent again. He turned his face away, letting his thick blond curls fall over his eyes, hiding them—hiding everything he was feeling.
"Why couldn’t you tell anyone? Why didn’t you ask for help?"
Anna’s lips curved into a bitter smile. "I was scared. Scared of hurting my father, my family... scared of losing Robert, too. I know I made a terrible mistake, but I didn’t know better. I was just a kid, Gab."
Gabriel’s jaw tightened. "What about the man?" His voice was low, heavy with restrained fury as he finally turned back to face her. "The one who... touched you. Was he punished?"
Anna bit her lip, her mind scrambling for a way to steer the conversation elsewhere. "It’s in the past now. It doesn’t matter anymore."
"How can you say that?!" Gabriel shot to his feet, his entire body tense with rage. His face flushed red, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. "So what—you just let him go? He got away with it? Goddammit, Anna!"
Anna frowned, though she understood his anger better than anyone. She had felt the same once—furious, helpless, consumed by the injustice of it all. But time had worn down her rage, leaving only numb acceptance in its place.
"That’s why I’m doing all of this now, Gab." She placed her hands on his shoulders, trying to steady him, to anchor him. "He will be punished. All of them will. I’ll make sure of it."
Gabriel didn’t respond. His chest rose and fell in heavy, uneven breaths, his anger still raw, still too much to contain. Then, without a word, he scooped up the puppy and walked away, leaving her standing there—lost and alone.
Or so she thought.
Unbeknownst to her, another man stood in the garden, hidden in the shadows—watching, listening.
She didn’t tell him everything.
William’s sharp gaze lingered on Anna as she clenched the sides of her trousers, her fingers digging into the fabric. She had chosen not to reveal the rapist’s identity. She was still protecting that monster.
Then, he saw it—the slight tremble in her shoulders. His chest tightened as her body shook, the silent proof of her tears slipping past her defenses. Again.
Something snapped inside him.
Without a second thought, William strode forward, seized her hand, and spun her around. Before she could react, his lips crashed against hers.
It was one of his usual kisses—intense, possessive, overwhelming. But this time, there was something more. Something darker. Something desperate.
Anna whimpered against his mouth, her breath hitching as the lack of air made her head swim. She pushed at his chest, struggling to break free, but William refused to let go. His grip was unyielding, his hands greedy as they pulled her closer.
This kiss... it wasn’t coming from a good place.
At last, their lips parted, and Anna staggered back, gasping for air. William was breathless too, his dark eyes locked onto her flushed face, unreadable and intense. He said nothing.
"What... what was that for?" she finally choked out, her voice unsteady.
William clenched his fists, his brows drawing together in frustration.
If only he could do it. If only he could throw caution to the wind, take matters into his own hands. Crush them. Kill them all.
And finally—finally—set her free.
But he couldn’t.
This was her fight. He was just her tool.
"I..." William started, his mind scrambling for an excuse—any excuse. "I can’t believe... I got jealous over... a dog."
Anna’s eyes widened. For a moment, she thought she had misheard him over the frantic pounding of her own heartbeat.
"Excuse me?"
