Chapter 97: A… Sheep
Chapter 97: A... Sheep
"I’m repeating the offer even though I know the answer... so if possible make the right choice!" it declared, its voice booming.
Then The Bone Dragon repeated his offer to the Elf King.
"One last chance. Give me the Crown, and I will let you leave safely! Maybe someday, I could help you for this, and I can visit your land too... it would be my honor!"
"Sadly," Renjiro said calmly, "the undead are never welcome in the lands of the elves." As he spoke, he lifted his right hand.
A bright dagger appeared in his grip. It looked like a holy weapon made of pure gold.
The Bone Dragon stared at the shining dagger. The green fire in its eyes flared brighter. "What a beautiful weapon!" it exclaimed, a strange hint of excitement in its voice. "It will make a fine prize for my collection!"
It roared again, a sound filled with challenge.
Then, beating its enormous bone wings—each one easily twenty meters long—it dived down from the sky like a falling nightmare.
At the same time, it opened its terrifying jaws. Inside, a cloud of creepy blue fire began to swirl and grow.
This was the Bone Dragon’s breath! It wasn’t hot like a living dragon’s fire, but it was worse in some ways. It could rot flesh and blood right off the bone, and even burn away a person’s soul, leaving nothing but clean white bones behind.
"Don’t let it hurt His Majesty!" cried Elaria, a high elf mage. She raised her magic staff high, getting ready to cast her strongest shield spell. Sylphie, the Unicorn, also braced herself, holy magic gathering around her horn, ready to throw up a shining shield of pure light.
But Renjiro held up a hand, stopping them.
Elaria was strong, yes, but only at the early Ninth Rank. Her shield wouldn’t last a second against the Bone Dragon’s attack. Even Sylphie Unicorn’s holy shield might only block one blast.
They just weren’t powerful enough yet to fight something like this dragon.
"Your Majesty..." Elaria and the three elf legion leaders looked at Renjiro, worried plainly on their faces.
"It’s fine," Renjiro said calmly.
Holding the dagger, Renjiro pointed it straight at the Bone Dragon diving down from the sky. Then, he swung it through the air.
Renjiro had already checked its power with his system. At his current level, the dagger special attack could reach up to one kilometer away. Any further, and it wouldn’t work.
Luckily, both the Bone Dragon and the Necromancer Varn on the mountaintop were definitely inside that one-kilometer range.
That’s why Renjiro was so calm. He wasn’t scared of these two supposedly strong enemies at all. It didn’t matter how powerful they were. Even if they were near god-level, as long as they were close enough, he had them under control.
"Master, what’s that weapon in the Elf King’s hand?" the female apprentice asked, her eyes wide with curiosity as she watched from the mountaintop.
Varn glanced at the Sheep dagger and sneered inside his mind. It doesn’t matter what weapon it is.
’Even if it’s some magic artifact, that Elf is too weak to use its real power. Just wait. When that dragon fire hits, the Elf King and all those elves around him will just be piles of dried bones except some soldiers... but they won’t last without their King.’
Hearing Varn’s thoughts, the young woman sighed softly.
Varn shot her a sharp look. "He might be good-looking, but remember, you’re a necromancer. Elves hate people like us who mess with dead bodies. Don’t get any funny ideas."
The woman looked down sadly. It was true; nobody liked necromancers. Even normal people thought they were evil. "Master, you misunderstood. I wasn’t thinking anything like that."
"Good." Varn turned his gaze back down the mountain, focusing on Renjiro. "In a moment, I’ll turn this Elf King into a skeleton warrior. If you like him then, I’ll give him to you."
The woman stayed quiet. ’What would I want with a skeleton?’
Varn watched as the Bone Dragon opened its huge, ugly mouth, the blue fire ready to blast out. He grinned, a cruel look on his face. "It’s over! The elves’ treasure and everything he owns will be mine!"
But just then, he saw the Elf King Renjiro lift the dagger and swing it towards the Bone Dragon in the sky.
’Is this Elf King scared so shitless?’ Varn thought, totally confused. ’What’s he trying to do?’
Before he could even figure it out, he saw the Bone Dragon’s enormous body, dozens of meters long, suddenly freeze stiff in mid-air.
And then...
The huge, scary Bone Dragon changed. In a flash, it turned into a sheep, barely a meter long, made of bones. It dropped from the sky like a rock, hitting the ground with a thump.
’What the—?! WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!’
Varn stared, completely stunned. His mind went blank. His powerful Bone Dragon, the one he’d worked so hard to create and control... had turned into a sheep?
It wasn’t even a living sheep! It was a sheep skeleton!
Half his power, gone, just like that!
....
High above, the Bone Dragon, now a small sheep skeleton, waved its four short legs wildly, bleating in pure shock as it fell.
Wheeee!! A strange thought flashed through its skull. Falling feels so... weird!
On the mountaintop, Varn and his apprentice just stared, their jaws hanging open.
"Master!" the apprentice gasped, unable to believe her eyes. "Your Bone Dragon... it turned into a skeleton sheep!"
"I CAN SEE THAT!" Varn roared back, his voice shaking.
"Is—Is that its real form?" she stammered, confused.
Varn didn’t answer. The Bone Dragon’s real form was obviously a huge, terrifying Dragon! What in the underworld was a skeleton sheep?!
Just then, the apprentice pointed and yelled again, "Master, look! Your summoned Bone Dragon... the skeleton sheep... it fell from the sky! Wow... amd now it’s smashed into pieces!"
"I CAN SEE THAT!!" Varn gritted his teeth, feeling like he might explode from anger.
Yes, his Bone Dragon, his mighty servant, had been turned into a skeleton sheep by some crazy magic, fallen out of the sky, and shattered on the ground.
If he hadn’t seen it himself, he never would have believed it.
