I Became My Elf King Character In A Game-Like World -
Chapter 87: Business with An Army?!
Chapter 87: Business with An Army?!
Just thinking about the assembled power made Alden’s skin crawl. He was incredibly thankful that the Elf King didn’t seem to want a fight right now.
Otherwise, the streets of his city would definitely be running red with blood today.
Renjiro finally answered, his voice still calm, "I heard there were some greedy human nobles in this city who thought they could capture some of my people. So, I came to see for myself exactly who was so... bold."
When they heard that... The looks on several nobles standing behind City Lord Alden changed in a heartbeat. Right then, Renjiro’s sharp eyes swept over them.
’Remember their faces,’ he thought to himself. ’When payback day comes, none of these people, or their families, will get away.’
City Lord Alden quickly blurted out, "Your Majesty! There must be a misunderstanding! No human noble here would ever dare go against the elves! If any did, I swear I’ll find them myself and hand them right over to you!"
Renjiro just said flatly, "It’s better for everyone if there aren’t any."
Lord Alden froze for a second.
He’d expected Renjiro to push harder on that point. He didn’t think the Elf King would just... let it go so fast.
’What’s he really up to?’
Renjiro noticed the quick flash of confusion on Alden’s face.
Truthfully, Renjiro did want to crush those nobles right here and now, but this wasn’t the smart time. Starting a war at this moment? Even if he was sure he could take the city, the elven soldiers behind him would definitely take heavy losses.
He wasn’t going to let the elves loyal to him die for nothing.
’Later,’ he planned silently. ’After I dig out those gold mine, after I summon a huge army of very high-level elves, maybe even some powerful units... then the war will start!’
And this city, sitting right beside the forest, would be his number one target. Coming here today was just about scaring them, making a point.
Just then, Lyanna from the Ironcrest Merchant Guild stepped gracefully forward. She offered Renjiro a dazzling smile. "Your Majesty, speaking for my father, Marquis, I warmly invite you to come visit our lands."
Lyanna’s words cut through the thick tension in the air, easing things a little.
Renjiro answered, "Miss Lyanna, I’ll keep your invitation in mind for the next time."
Lyanna put on a playful pout. "Oh, what a pity! If you could be a guest in our territory, it would truly be our honor!"
"Maybe there will be a chance in the future," Renjiro said smoothly.
’When I attack this city,’ he added silently, the ’Marquis’s lands won’t be safe either.’ Lyanna seemed nice enough, but when war came, her father would only have two choices: give up or be wiped out.
As he finished speaking, he flicked his right hand.
Thump. Thump.
Several large wooden chests suddenly appeared on the dusty ground right in front of City Lord and the others.
Lord Alden stammered quickly, "Your Majesty, you arrived so fast... our city hasn’t had time to prepare any welcome gifts! It would be impolite for us to take gifts from you when we have nothing ready in return!"
Renjiro shot him a look from the corner of his eye.
’This human thinks pretty highly of his manners.’
Magic cores worth millions in gold coins – did he seriously think Renjiro was handing them out as free gifts?
He waved his hand again.
Click. Click.
The heavy lids of the chests sprang open by themselves. Inside, piled high, were thousands upon thousands of sparkling magic cores, easily more than ten thousand, glinting like heaps of diamonds.
In one of the chests...
Mixed in with the magic cores were several finely crafted magic staffs and strong-looking knight swords.
"Whoa! Look at all those magic cores! And most seem really high-level!" someone in the crowd gasped.
Lord Alden stared hard at Renjiro, his eyes narrowed with suspicion.
He didn’t believe for one second that even the elves, known for being kind, would just give away treasures this valuable for no reason. Forget the staffs and swords, just the magic cores alone had to be worth millions of gold coins!
Lyanna and the Mage Gorren quickly glanced at each other. They both got it instantly.
If they were right, the Elf King was actually here to... do business. It seemed His Majesty’s hunger for gold coins was something they really needed to pay attention to.
Compared to this Elf King, maybe those legendary gold-hoarding dragons weren’t so bad after all.
At least the dragons living out in the Sea didn’t just show up on human doorsteps trying to trade stuff In the middle of the day with an army.
Staring at the massive pile of top-quality magic cores... Lyanna felt a sharp sting of regret.
All the gold, silver, magic cores, and gems her own guild had gotten from the elves just a few days ago hadn’t been sold off yet. She didn’t have enough gold on hand right now to make a really big offer and impress the Elf King.
Renjiro spoke again, his voice cutting through the stunned silence. "Lord Alden, I plan to sell these magic cores to the merchants in your city. And these magic staffs and knight swords too, of course."
"Sell them? You mean... You came here for business?"
Lord Alden was suddenly completely confused.
Behind him, the heads of the Mercenary and Mage Guilds, along with the other powerful figures and nobles, looked just as baffled.
The Elf King brought a giant army, made a huge show, marched terrifying Giant Golems right up to their walls... all just to sell things?
’Damn it all!’ Alden thought, feeling a mix of relief and pure frustration.
If you were just here to trade, couldn’t you have been a little less terrifying about it?!
If the Elf King had simply sent a message, every merchant group for miles would have tripped over themselves rushing into the forest loaded down with gold!
Everyone knew elf-made gear was hugely popular and worth a fortune in the human kingdoms.
Right at that moment...
A merchant suddenly shoved his way to the front, waving his hands frantically.
"Your Majesty! Your Majesty! My w-we will take it all! Every magic core, every staff, every sword, we’ll buy it all this from you!"
He spun around and yelled at his workers, "What are you morons waiting for?! Get over here and start counting! Now!"
Instantly, several men in merchant clothes scrambled towards the open chests, eyes wide, ready to start tallying up the unbelievable hoard of treasures.
