I Became My Elf King Character In A Game-Like World -
Chapter 100: Only Way
Chapter 100: Only Way
"ROOOOAR!!"
The Bone Dragon threw back its head and let out a long, satisfying roar.
"Ah, my own body feels much better!"
Then, the Bone Dragon lowered its massive skull, its faint green eyes fixed on Renjiro. "Your Majesty... maybe I should reconsider and just crush you with my Domain right now!"
Renjiro just smiled slightly. "Go ahead and try, if you think you can."
Dragon stared intently at Renjiro, looking like it might unleash its powerful Domain at any second, something it hadn’t even used before.
But after a tense moment, the Bone Dragon sighed, a rattling sound from its ribs. It flapped its bony wings. "Fine. I admit defeat to the Elf King with two artifacts. Honestly," it added, "it’s not that embarrassing."
As it spoke, a wisp of green flame floated out from its skull and drifted towards Renjiro.
Renjiro double-checked with the System first, just to be safe, then reached out and caught the green flame in his hand.
The flame felt cool, almost icy, and instantly melted into his palm. At the same time, he felt a clear connection form between himself and the Bone Dragon. Through this soul origin, he could destroy Dragon’s spirit with a single thought.
The Bone Dragon flapped its wings and landed heavily. Its massive bone claws dug into the ground, making the earth tremble slightly.
"Your Majesty," Dragon said, its voice rumbling, "perhaps you should send Varn to meet his god now. After all, he still holds a piece of my soul too."
Pfft!!
Varn sprayed another mouthful of blood. He couldn’t believe Dragon had turned traitor so quickly! Barely a minute after switching sides, and it was already suggesting killing its old master? Had the beast forgotten who dragged it out of some forgotten grave and raised it from a pile of junk bones into a mighty Bone Dragon?
Dragon let out another bony sigh. "Varn, you can go peacefully now! I will pray for you from this world and wish you a happy afterlife in the underworld... hehe, just kidding!"
Varn’s eyes rolled back in fury, and he almost passed out right there. Luckily, his apprentice acted fast, pouring a potion into his sheep mouth, saving him for the moment.
Renjiro flicked his wrist. The potion bottle flew out of the woman’s hand and landed neatly in his.
The woman opened her mouth, then quickly shut it, too scared to complain.
Renjiro uncorked the bottle, sniffed it, and remarked, "This is medicine made with Life Water. Not a lot, but still quite effective."
Under Renjiro’s piercing golden gaze, the woman trembled slightly and explained timidly, "My master... stole this potion from a Priest."
Renjiro frowned. "Why would the Temple have Life Water?"
The Bone Dragon spoke up, "Your Majesty, I know this. The Goddess Lake, which once belonged to your Elves, has been taken over by the Temple. They’ve even built a huge city there!"
"They dare?!" Renjiro snapped, his handsome face turning ice-cold.
Elaria, the three Elven Captains, and all the surrounding Elves bristled with anger. The Goddess Lake! That was sacred ground for the Elves! Taken by the Temple?
The Unicorn Leader stomped a hoof, its voice sharp with fury. "Your Majesty, we must destroy the Temple! Tear down their city and take back the Goddess Lake that belongs to Elves and Unicorns!"
"Your Majesty..." Elaria looked at Renjiro, tears welling in her beautiful eyes. For every elf, the Goddess Lake was the most holy place imaginable.
Renjiro gently clenched his fist. "Don’t worry," he said, his voice dangerously calm. "Soon, everyone on this continent who believes in the God of Light will die. Whether they’re a priest or just a follower!"
His tone was quiet, but even the Bone Dragon felt a shiver run down its spine. ’This Elf King’s killing intent is terrifying!’
Renjiro turned his gaze back to Varn, who was still lying there, covered in blood. The fat sheep body trembled now and then, its short legs twitching weakly, looking like it was about to kick the bucket any second.
"Varn, I have a question," Renjiro said. "But first... how about a way to make sure you listen? A guarantee that if you ever betray me, I can end your life instantly, no matter where you are."
As he spoke, Renjiro casually waved the Dagger once more.
Varn shimmered and transformed back into his human form, albeit a very battered and bloody one.
Renjiro spoke calmly, playing with a small knife in his hand.
Varn was back in his human shape. His thin body lay on the ground, blood spreading out around him. He struggled to even move a finger. The fall had nearly killed him, taking away almost half his strength.
Before Varn could say anything, the Bone Dragon quickly cut in. "Your Majesty, Varn is a liar and a thief! Don’t trust him. Even if he gives in now, he’ll just betray you down the road."
Varn rolled his eyes, then shot a dirty look at undead dragon. ’Did I really do so many bad things that the Lord of the Underworld sent this annoying bonehead to punish me?’ he thought. ’Damn you undead dragon! Even if I die, I swear I’ll drag you down to the underworld with me!’
Quietly, Varn started gathering the last bits of his undead power inside him, getting ready to unleash it in one final blast. But his voice came out weak, "It’s easy. Use a contract scroll. With its power, I can swear to serve you, an oath made himself. If I break it, the magic of the contract, backed by the god of death, will destroy me."
Renjiro shook his head. "I don’t trust in those so-called gods."
Varn stared, shocked. "Then... the only other choice is for me to give you the very core of my soul!"
Renjiro just smiled slightly. "I’m sure you’ll make the best choice."
Varn was quiet for a moment. Then he laughed, a dry, mocking sound at his own expense. "Elf King, let me be straight with you. I used to be strong. Peak eleventh circle! Across all the human lands, the name Varn meant evil! But look at me now. I’m old, practically got one foot in the grave. My time’s almost up. With the little life I have left, I doubt I could even beat a regular fighter."
