Chapter 66: Chapter 63 Changes 1_1

"Lin City has turned into this state now."

Li Xiaojie, who has become a half-human half-zombie, stood on a main street, looking at the surrounding high-rise buildings with a sorrowful expression. He thought back to just a year earlier when Lin City was a dazzling neon paradise. Yet it had now turned into a veritable Hell in just a blink of an eye!

Every now and then, a zombie would spot Li Xiaojie and charge at him, gnashing their teeth and brandishing their claws. But upon detecting the scent on him that indicated he was one of their own, they would retreat with disappointment. However, Li Xiaojie had already become accustomed to this scene!

His present strength was many times more potent than a Level 1 zombie. He could smash walls with a single punch. But he dared not be too ostentatious, unlike the evolved humans who could resist getting infected even if scratched by zombies. He remembered what Yan Xing had warned him: Once a zombie gets its claws on you, you’ll become a complete zombie!

Cautiously avoiding the zombies, he headed towards a convenience store, unsure of what to bring back. As long as it was food, it should suffice. He needed to complete the blasted mission assigned by the Dragon Group as soon as possible!

Fu Miao had given him a day’s time. For now, he could wander around Lin City, or find a place to rest before delivering the food the next day.

To avoid any unnecessary complications en route, he didn’t stray too far from where Fu Miao had dropped him off. Taking advantage of the zombies’ distraction, he managed to kill a few zombies inside the convenience store and hauled their bodies towards the store entrance.

However, he suddenly spotted a dark figure flashing before him. Both Li Xiaojie and Tang Ye were taken aback!

Tang Ye had just stepped out of the school and didn’t know where to go, his eyes landed on Li Xiaojie carrying the bodies of the zombies.

Tang Ye abruptly halted and started to approach Li Xiaojie, clearly harbouring ill-intent.

As Tang Ye neared, he could smell the scent of a human on the zombie before him. Why was that so?

Li Xiaojie’s heart skipped a beat as he saw Tang Ye, who was a terrifying zombie. Looking at Tang Ye’s peculiar arm made of bone, he surmised that only Level 2 zombies or Level 1 zombies close to evolution could have such strange bodily features.

As Tang Ye approached him, with curiosity flickering in his eyes, Li Xiaojie decided it wasn’t worth risking the food. This zombie seemed dangerous, and he had a sinking feeling that Tang Ye was a Level 2.

He swung up the zombie corpse he was holding and hurled it at Tang Ye with all his strength. Without looking back, he turned and sprinted away. He didn’t want to end up being scratched and becoming a mindless zombie!

Tang Ye watched as the body flew towards him, narrowing his eyes and emanating a dangerous aura. He reached out to catch it, but failed to anticipate the strength of Li Xiaojie, which was akin to a Level 2 zombie, and was thrown back several steps!

Snapping back to reality, Tang Ye saw Li Xiaojie bolting in the distance. He let out an earth-shattering roar!

How dare you hit me and run? Do you think I’m Iron Simpleton?

Tang Ye proceeded to give chase, his extraordinary speed transforming him into a literal blur.

As Li Xiaojie ran, he glanced back and spotted Tang Ye’s astonishing speed. Terrified, he picked up his pace even further.

Seeing any potential prey escape was enough to spark Tang Ye’s hunting instincts. The Evolution Crystal within a Level 2 zombie could provide him with a considerable boost of energy!

Within a second, the gap between them had shortened dramatically! Li Xiaojie didn’t care about attracting other zombies now, he managed to grab another zombie by its neck and flung it directly at Tang Ye!

"Get lost!" Li Xiaojie roared internally.

Tang Ye instinctively dodged, buying Li Xiaojie a little time. He scrambled to an abandoned car, stuffed himself into the vehicle, and without even shutting the door, stomped the accelerator and sped away!

"Stop!" Tang Ye bellowed, his voice hoarse and slightly slurred, it was uncertain whether Li Xiaojie heard him.

Regardless, the chase was on! Tang Ye had full confidence in his speed!

Tang Ye was, however, struck with astonishment. Could this zombie actually drive a car? Just for this, Tang Ye was determined to catch him and find out if he was, like Tang Ye himself, a zombie with human intelligence!

Li Xiaojie panicked, driving wildly down the road. He quickly closed the car door and checked the rear-view mirror, catching sight of Tang Ye stubbornly pursuing him.

A crossroads loomed ahead, but fearing that Tang Ye could seize the opportunity to get into the vehicle, he gritted his teeth and continued straight.

The vehicle mowed down unfortunate zombies on its path, the gruesome sound of its wheels crushing flesh and bone attracted even more zombies, who joined Tang Ye in the chase. The increasing number of zombies created a formidable army, even though most could not catch up with Tang Ye’s impressive speed, falling further behind after a while.

Li Xiaojie ended up in a place he did not recognise, becoming increasingly anxious as he ventured further away from the location Fu Miao had dropped him off. How could he return with all these zombies in pursuit? The risk of fighting and getting scratched, thus becoming a full-fledged zombie, was too high to take! He had no other choice than to be as crafty as he could and prioritise his survival!

From returning from the brink of death by being saved by Yan Xing from a Level 2 zombie, Li Xiaojie now valued his life more than ever. Many who had a brush with death found it challenging to face the prospect of dying again!

"Stop!"

Tang Ye let out a deep roar. An elongated, bone-made claw sprouted from the small mouth-like opening in his right palm. It latched onto the rear bumper of Li Xiaojie’s moving car. Tang Ye sprinted until he made a massive leap onto the roof of the vehicle.

Li Xiaojie heard the thud on the roof and his eyes widened in fear. In his panic, he sharply turned the steering wheel, swerving the car in another direction.

With a loud crash, the heavy iron gates of Fushan Zoo were flung open by Li Xiaojie’s car, followed by the clanging sound of the gates hitting the ground!

Crash!

Li Xiaojie kicked open the distorted car door and stumbled out of the vehicle. Just as he was about to check the car roof, he froze in his tracks. He saw Tang Ye standing steadily on the roof, seemingly unscathed!

"Damn!" Li Xiaojie cursed internally!

Having lost his means of escape, his face twisted into a grimace. If he can’t run, then he will fight!

He struck a stance in preparation for unleashing his lethal martial arts skills, but suddenly, he felt a strange sensation, as if something was tightly binding his head, causing him immense discomfort.
