Chapter 59: Chapter 56 Sending You Back to Human Society_1
"Little Mister, look, why is this light on?" Ning Yu’er looked at the light that had lit up in a dormitory room in surprise and delight.
Tang Ye looked up at it, puzzled.
Was the power back on?
Just as the city-wide power surges began, a deep, magnetic male voice echoed everywhere in the campus, igniting the outcries of countless zombies!
"Yu’er, my Yu’er, if you’re still there, it’s your father. If you’re still alive, try to contact me as soon as possible. I will come to save you, Yu’er... I’m sorry Yu’er, please come back, I’ll definitely come to rescue you."
The male voice suddenly changed tone, chokingly calling out for Ning Yu’er.
"Dad! Little Mister, it’s my dad! He’s alive!" Ning Yu’er laughed in joy, her laughter quickly turning into sobs.
Something about seeing her so happy tore at Tang Ye’s heart. For some reason, her joy brought him sorrow.
It seemed like she was about to leave him...
Ning Yu’er wiped the tears from her face and looked at Tang Ye. His lack of joy, on the contrary, tinged with a thread of sorrow, was confusing.
She stepped in front of Tang Ye. She didn’t know what to say, so she could only hold him.
A fear began to creep in. After hearing her father’s voice, she wanted to head to the safe zone south of Lin City, but she was scared of leaving Tang Ye alone. Would he be lonely?
Aside from her father, Tang Ye was her only source of security. They were originally strangers, but in these past two weeks, she had developed a unique affection for him.
Her father should be safe, but Tang Ye would definitely be lonely. She didn’t know if Tang Ye would think this way, but she was convinced of it.
"Little Mister, don’t be scared, I’ll always be with you, okay?"
Tang Ye forced down the discomfort in his heart, patting her fragile shoulder.
His gaze drifted outside through the window of a dormitory, landing on the yellow shadows swaying in the wind. It was already dusk. Even though he was unwilling to part with Ning Yu’er, he decided to send her back to human society. By the time he got her to the safe zone south of Lin City, it would probably be late at night — a time that zombies loved, and also a time of great danger.
As a zombie, Tang Ye had nothing to fear, but he had to keep Ning Yu’er safe.
The setting sun’s afterglow streamed through layers of plane tree leaves to the soil at its roots. The last breeze of summer blew away a slightly yellowing green leaf. The fallen leaf decayed, spreading a rotting smell. The plane tree longed for the light, hoping to get more sunshine to shine on itself, but its roots reach deep into the dark soil. Many unsightly secrets were hidden in this dirty darkness!
The brighter you yearn for, the deeper you must plunge into darkness!
A dumb ragged zombie moved its twisted legs forward. The fallen leaf floated onto its forehead.
It let out a painful howl and fell stiffly to the ground. Its body began to burn, starting to transform into a level 1 zombie, but was mercilessly crushed into mush by an upcoming armored vehicle.
The armored vehicle stopped in front of a dilapidated old house. A man in ancient robes stepped down from it.
"Get down, we’re here."
"What are you trying to do?" Li Xiaojie was increasingly horrified looking at the surrounding environment, not knowing what this man named Yan Xing planned for him.
"Relax, it’s definitely not good news. You could possibly die," Yan Xing said, putting particular emphasis on the word ’die’.
Li Xiaojie tried to run, but was grabbed by Yan Xing. Despite his regular training in the troops, his strength was no match for Yan Xing. Yan Xing effortlessly lifted him and walked into the dilapidated house.
"Everyone, come out. We’ve got a job to do, and it’s a big one!"
Upon Yan Xing’s call, people of various genders and all sorts of clothes came out from every nook and cranny of the old house. Some were in ancient clothes, some in suits, and some were in tight agent suits from the movies.
All of them wore a dragon emblem on their chests. The organization they belonged to was self-evident.
"You... you’re all part of the Dragon Group?"
"What a waste of words!" A burly man with a rough face stepped forward and dragged Li Xiaojie into a room.
The big man pressed Li Xiaojie onto a surgery table set up in the room and fixed him in place. Then, he took out an uncrystallized level 1 zombie evolution crystal from his pocket.
"What... what the hell are you going to do? Get the hell away from me!" Li Xiaojie opened his eyes so wide they almost bulged out of his sockets.
The burly man narrowed his terrifying eyes and went to the side of the operation table. He pinched Li Xiaojie’s cheek and twisted his mouth open.
"Wait! Use this one, I just got!"
The door burst open, and Yan Xing came in, holding a level 2 zombie evolution crystal in his hand and handed it to the burly man.
The burly man’s eyes lit up when he saw it, and eagerly took the evolution crystal from Yan Xing’s hand.
"Tell me, what the hell do you want to do?"
"Just using you for an experiment," Yan Xing said nonchalantly.
"What kind of experiment? Let me go!"
"Get on with it, enough with the talk! Why did I even bother saving you? There’s no such thing as a free lunch! I can’t believe you’re a company commander and you don’t get this. How did you even get promoted?"
Hearing this, Li Xiaojie cursed angrily, "Is this what your Dragon Group is like?"
"Dragon Group? We are indeed the Dragon Group. But where there are people, there’s discord. The Dragon Group is no exception... Never mind, since the result’s the same whether the experiment succeeds or fails, I might as well tell you. The Dragon Group has factions too. We’re not good people, even though there are good people in the Dragon Group. But I don’t know whether they can survive, haha! Get on with it." Yan Xing waved his hand, signaling the big man to start his work, then he left the room.
As Li Xiaojie’s ear-splitting scream pierced the night, darkness fully descended.
The next morning,
Ning Yu’er sat on the bed, absent-mindedly studying Tang Ye’s face. She reached out and gently stroked his face, as if she were a kitten.
"Little Mister, I’ll be with you."
The power, which had suddenly returned yesterday, had already been disconnected. It only lasted half an hour. She was just about to get up when she felt her arm being held by a strong, cold hand.
Looking back, Tang Ye was also getting up from bed. He took out a piece of paper and wrote a line on it: I will take you to the human safe zone.
The short line, written clumsily, left Ning Yu’er staring blankly at him. Without thinking, she shook her head.
"No! I won’t go, I’ll stay with you! Otherwise, you’ll be very lonely. I won’t go!"
Tang Ye looked at her with his terrifyingly gray eyes, the pupils filled with determined resolution! He wrote again: "No, it’s too dangerous here. I’ll take you to see your father. Pack your things."
