I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -
Chapter 508 - 505: No Food, No ’Work’_1
Chapter 508: Chapter 505: No Food, No ’Work’_1
"Enough now, don’t cry..." Bai Xinran comforted Nannan while patting her back, all the while casting anxious glances at Tang Ye, worried that her crying would provoke this brutal guy and he would lose his temper and hurt both of them.
Presumably unable to withstand Nannan’s crying, Qiongli had just parked the car when she got out and walked into the darkness. The other survivors nearby had started a fire in front of a gas station convenience store. Its light seemed feeble in the all-encompassing darkness.
People glanced at Tang Ye. In the end-times, darkness is humanity’s greatest fear. No one would be so foolish as to say, "I belong to the darkness, I am accustomed to the darkness".
The darkness of the end-times is even more terrifying because you never know what monsters might lurk within. There are no lone travelers in the apocalypse. Humans are social creatures, and in times of crisis, they instinctively band together. Those who end up alone run the risk of being completely consumed by their loneliness!
As for someone like Tang Ye, who doesn’t even seem to be afraid of the darkness, people looked at his retreating figure with strange eyes. But then they remembered his unpredictable strength: what could possibly hurt him?
"Big brother, where are you going?" Bai Xinran asked hurriedly as Tang Ye started to leave.
Tang Ye paused for a moment, then said without turning his head, "You just stay here, I’ll be back soon."
With that, his figure totally disappeared into the darkness. Once he was out of sight of Qiongli and the others, Tang Ye rose to the sky like a phantom, following the scent of the zombie dragon.
"I should be there by now."
Muttering to himself, Tang Ye descended beneath a billboard after flying for some time. Then, the ground started pounding "thump, thump, thump". In no time, the massive body of the zombie dragon emerged from the ground.
Heh heh~
The zombie dragon grunt, spat out a mouthful of mud residue, and then, it spat out a big bundle that was coated in its disgusting saliva.
Using a discarded iron bar, Tang Ye opened up the plastic wrap and took out the contents. Just like before, it was a bag of food.
The difference was, while last time the food was all spicy. This time, it was milk powder, bread, and baby-friendly ham sausage.
The last time he had Xu Haishui send him food, he’d forgotten to prepare something for Nannan. Only when Nannan started fussing from hunger today did he remember his oversight.
As he was about to tell the zombie dragon to leave, Tang Ye suddenly spotted another zombie passing by. An idea dawned on him: since he could infect living creatures, could he infect zombies as well?
With that thought in mind, he looked at the zombie dragon with an odd expression. The zombies currently providing him with their field of vision were all evolved zombies, ranging from Level 1 to Level 2.
Perhaps it was because his level was high that he could casually infect someone and turn them into an evolved zombie. If he got hold of a non-evolved zombie, could he make it evolve?
Today, the Level 3 silver-armored zombie he’d infected but then killed had defensive power far surpassing that of other zombies at the same level, and its strength was about twice that of other zombies. If he infected the zombie dragon, it should end up having the same silver-white skin as him and significantly improved defense.
Even though it was energy-consuming, Tang Ye decided to give it a try. His hand transformed into a silver claw as he harshly scratched at the dragon’s forehead, breaking its defense.
Since zombies don’t feel pain, the zombie dragon didn’t react too violently. Tang Ye scratched at its wound then, unsure whether it was enough, he transferred some of his own flesh and blood cells into the wound and watched intently to see what would happen.
After a while, however, Tang Ye realized something was off. The flesh and blood cells he had transferred didn’t do anything once they got into the zombie dragon’s body. He had thought that his mutated anti-life matter would consume and assimilate the non-mutated anti-life matter, but now, the mutated anti-life matter seemed like lost children wandering aimlessly inside the zombie dragon’s body.
Unable to stand it any longer, Tang Ye focused all his attention on the mutated anti-life matter and made them consume the non-mutated anti-life matter.
After giving it a try, it turned out his anti-life matter really could consume and assimilate the non-mutated anti-life matter. Moreover, it quickly began to replicate itself. Tang Ye enthusiastically worked on it for a long time, but gradually, he felt frustrated and removed his hand.
The reason was that the mutated anti-life matter he’d transferred only consumed other anti-life matter when he was actively manipulating it. He was not going to dedicate that much energy to controlling an amount of cells as large as the zombie dragon had. When would he finish?
Eventually, Tang Ye simply gave up. His consciousness could manifest at any point on his body, controlling every inch of his flesh and blood, but he only had one focus. Unless he could somehow cultivate numerous consciousnesses, thus gaining numerous focuses.
Anti-life matter will only consume non-anti-life matter cells and materials, which are food for it. No instructions necessary, it feeds by itself.
No matter the size of a species, whether it be a human or a microorganism, whether it possesses high intelligence, low intelligence or no intelligence at all, they may not know how to do anything else, but they all know how to eat. No one needs to tell them when to eat.
For instance, if a man sets up a company and hires some workers, they might refuse to work outside of work hours and might even be late for work. But when it comes to meal times, they’re the first ones at the table.
That being said, the reason why the people he previously infected were easily transformed was because their body didn’t contain any anti-life matter. When Tang Ye’s mutated anti-life matter got into their bodies where there was food, they actively consumed the food and infected the host.
But the zombie dragon didn’t have any food that the anti-life matter craved, which meant Tang Ye had to guide them to "work" one by one.
After some time, Tang Ye realized he could transform the zombie dragon into a silver-armored zombie like himself, but it was too mentally exhausting. He was already low on stamina, to ask him to accomplish this task was simply wishful thinking!
In the end, Tang Ye only managed to transform a small portion of the flesh on the dragon’s forehead into the silver-white color before withdrawing his hand.
Maybe only those who evolved up to Level 7 could infect zombies...
"Roll, roll, roll, you come out when I call you, f*ck. What a waste of time!" he ordered.
The zombie dragon didn’t understand why Tang Ye was angry, but noticing his dissatisfaction, it wisely returned underground and then quietly followed Tang Ye.
Tang Ye flew up into the sky and returned to the gas station where Qiongli and the others were spending the night. Just as Bai Xinran and Qiongli were managing to feed Nannan some sweets they had found, he suddenly appeared and tossed a bag of food into their laps.
"There’s plenty here."
