Chapter 499: Chapter 496: You’re Seeking Death_1

Qiongli, the driver, heard the shouts from behind and looked over, only to spot the Mad Riders. She slammed on the brakes, threw open the door and rushed over. Brother Zhang quickly caught up with her. By the looks of it, it seemed they were indeed dealing with the troublesome Mad Riders.

The Mad Riders didn’t structure their forces like a base, instead they spread out across many different points. These points may belong to different factions, but most probably belonged to the same force.

This strategy existed for a reason: if the survivors making their way down the highway were likened to prey, then the Mad Riders were the hunters.

Not every piece of prey would be caught by the hunter; this strategy ensured that even if the runners at one outpost failed to catch up, those at the next outpost could intercept the prey and seize their supplies.

If those people watching them were indeed Mad Riders, not dealing with them could mean they’d be ambushed by more Mad Riders on the next stretch of road. Hence, these Mad Riders had to be killed!

There didn’t seem to be too many Mad Riders, just about a dozen or so. They were gesturing and pointing in their direction as one of them pulled out a phone to make a call. But they froze when they saw the cars halt.

"Damn, it’s the New Humans, at least a Level 2!"

Someone cried out in alarm, fumbling for their gun to prepare for an attack, but thought better of it. Level 2 New Humans were known for their extraordinary reflexes. Drawing a weapon and firing would take time, time better spent escaping.

Qiongli and Brother Zhang moved like lightning. Knowing how troublesome the Mad Riders were, the duo showed an impressive chemistry in this moment.

They both drew their machetes and crossed the median strip, charging towards the Mad Riders who were about to flee on their bikes.

"Damn! They’re not ordinary Level 2 New Humans! Let’s get out of here!"

Someone drew a pistol and fired at Brother Zhang, but he dodged all the bullets. Qiongli charged forward. Other than the large group of Mad Riders they encountered yesterday, she hadn’t had an opportunity to fight them. But now, there were only about a dozen or so, and it didn’t seem like all of them had guns. If not now, when would they wipe them out?

She vowed to return the despair that family of three had suffered to these Mad Riders!

Behind her, the other survivors broke through the barriers and joined Qiongli and Brother Zhang in chasing the Mad Riders. Tang Ye hesitated; he didn’t know how to drive. If he were alone, he might have taken the risk, but he didn’t dare with Nannan in the car.

He remembered his first encounter with a short, adorable-looking dwarf zombie with Level 1 speed enhancement -- he ran it over with his car and left it disabled.

Helpless, he could only watch with Bai Xinran from the sidelines.

Soon, the situation took a turn. One of the reasons the Mad Riders fled at first was due to the New Humans. Another reason was because they thought with so many people, there would surely be firearms. However, they realized after being pursued for a while that none of the survivors fired a single bullet.

It didn’t make sense to have guns but not use them if they intended to kill, so the only conceivable reason was that the survivors didn’t have guns at all!

"They have no guns!" one member of the Mad Riders yelled out, before pulling out a submachine gun and firing at Qiongli. Amazingly, she managed to evade all the bullets.

The Mad Riders stared dumbfounded.

How could anyone dodge bullets so easily?

"Damn!" A realization dawned – they were probably being hunted by Level 3 New Humans. As the expletive left his mouth, he heard a scream from the back. A motorcycle was pierced by Qiongli’s military knife, flinging two people off and sending the bike skidding far into the distance.

Level 3 New Humans were extremely fast, usually comparable to high-speed vehicles. Although not as fast as those with enhanced speed, catching up to a motorcycle was well within their abilities.

The cyclists at the front fired even more desperately after witnessing this, but their bullets had no effect. The pair’s pupils dilated as they watched every single bullet fired from the guns, calculating the distance and then dodging.

Watching the pair dodge bullets as though it was child’s play, all the Mad Riders exchanged looks. Deciding it was useless to waste any more bullets, they pocketed their guns, increased their speed, and in a single file, rushed towards an abandoned car squashed against the barrier.

Qiongli and Brother Zhang were unclear about their intentions, but at this time, Brother Zhang caught a motorcycle, and with one lift, sent both bike and rider flying.

"Don’t let them escape! If they do, we won’t be able to!"

"Hurry, follow them!"

"Die, Mad Riders!"

The survivors on the other side of the barrier also followed closely in their cars. However, when a member of the Mad Riders pointed a gun at them, several drivers immediately ducked their heads.

They initially thought that the Mad Riders would keep going, but to everyone’s surprise, after using the abandoned car as a pivot, they turned their bikes around and started charging directly towards the survivors.

Everyone was taken by surprise.

"What are they doing?"

"Look out, they’re coming!"

Even Qiongli was stunned by their maneuver. She had barely stopped running at top speed when she heard the sound of gunfire.

Ka-chack! Ka-chack!

The windows of the survivors’ vehicles were shattered by bullets, with shards flying everywhere. There were screams as blood spattered onto the seats.

The Mad Riders, three of them blasting away with submachine guns, fired at the group of survivors before driving towards Tang Ye’s direction. One of them had his gun aimed directly at Bai Xinran, who had just gotten out of the car and was waiting for the rest to return.

"Watch out!" Qiongli screamed like a banshee, her feet moving as fast as they could, exerting all the strength she had to propel herself forward.

"Take cover!"

Bai Xinran was stunned. Seeing the Mad Riders charging at her, how could she run? She was just an ordinary person; could she outrun a bullet?

In her panic, she turned and crouched down, using her body to shield Nannan in her arms, her eyes wide with fear at the thought of impending death.

"I’m sorry, Auntie..."

One of the Mad Riders sat on the back of a motorcycle, his submachine gun raised, a bloodthirsty grin on his face.

"Hehe, say your prayers!"

Da-da-da!

He pulled the trigger, and a spray of glowing orange bullets whistled towards Bai Xinran’s head. Qiongli went pale; she couldn’t make it in time. The anguish in her heart slowed her steps.

She didn’t dare to watch and covered her eyes with her hands.

In what felt like slow-motion, every bullet’s trajectory was clear in someone’s eyes. Just as it was about to make contact, Bai Xinran felt a shadow appear in front of her as if teleported.

She lifted her head and saw that it was the young man!

"You’re asking for it!"

Ding ding!

From his open hand, a few distorted bullets fell.

Everyone was stunned, while the Mad Riders stared blankly.

"What... the bullets were... caught... monster!"
