Chapter 488: Chapter 485: This Kid Seems to be Quite Troublesome_1
Everyone looked at him. Brother Zhang furrowed his brow. He was certain the tunnel entrance had been empty when he’d last looked - how had this man emerged from there?
Especially his face, it was as if one had encountered some horrifying spirit deep in the woods, his visage was unnerving and grotesque.
"Who are you?" Brother Zhang asked, furrowing his brows.
The young man didn’t answer him. Instead, he sprang down from the tunnel entrance in a nimble motion, landing securely on the ground. He walked towards Qiongli, briefly glanced at Nannan in her arms, his eyes lingering a bit with mixed emotions.
"Who are you?" Qiongli was curious. The man had appeared as if out of thin air, his presence entirely eerie. Hadn’t everyone else been left disoriented and in disarray by the shockwave of the nuclear explosion? Yet, this man was clean - garbed in expensive pre-Apocalypse clothes, devoid of a spec of dust on his face, even his red Axu sneakers looked brand new!
There was something odd about him. Although he seemed to emit the aura of an average person, the delicate caution it instilled in the two served as a warning – a signal that this stranger was extremely dangerous. Qiongli felt instinctively on guard.
"Who I am is not what matters. What I want to know is where you guys are headed?" the young man asked.
"Why should we tell you?"
"I might be headed the same way as you." He shrugged. But hearing this, Qiongli’s eyes narrowed. They had started out with nearly a thousand people, and now reduced to a tenth of it. Brother Zhang was already a headache, the last thing she wanted was another unknown variable.
"Sorry, but the place we’re going is definitely not on your way."
"You can tell me, it wouldn’t matter even if we’re not headed the same way."
Qiongli was at a loss for words. In her heart, she felt a sense of helplessness. All she wanted was to get rid of this young man. For some reason, his presence made her feel uneasy.
Due to this, she preferred to travel alongside Brother Zhang, the viper who could strike at any time.
""You’re not on our way, our destination is far away!"
"Well, where I’m heading is also quite far! You can tell me, you are all New Humans, I, as an ordinary person, should be harmless right?"
Qiongli retreated a few steps, her eyes wary of the young man. An ordinary person? Could an ordinary person leap down so effortlessly from a five-meter-high tunnel ceiling?
Realizing the contradiction in his own words, the young man scratched his head awkwardly. But from the look in Qiongli’s eyes, he knew that she had tagged him as a ’liar’.
"Alright, I’m not an ordinary person, yet..."
Suddenly, the young man’s demeanor changed, a savage aura erupted from him, "I’m not a good person either; you better tell me where you’re headed! Then we can travel together!"
This sudden shift frightened Qiongli, Brother Zhang, and everyone else in the vicinity. His sudden violent demeanor sent chills down their spines, they could sense the bloodthirsty murderous intent lacing it!
"Who is this man?"
This question shot through everyone’s mind. Qiongli took a step back, holding Nannan more tightly, "What do you want? We don’t even know you."
Brother Zhang realized something was deeply wrong and quietly retreated to the sidelines, calmly observing Qiongli’s predicament. He understood this young man was not ordinary. If Qiongli didn’t handle this well now, there was a good chance she’d lose her life then and there!
Frankly, he thought, if Qiongli died, it’s a win for him, so what if it meant losing a fiery temptress.
"So what if you don’t know me? Am I required to inform you of my intentions? Say it again, where are you all headed? Because if you don’t, let me assure you – no one here will live to see tomorrow!" He said coldly, pointing to the crowd.
Qiongli was startled, those being pointed at almost choked on their own breath.
What did they have to do with this?
Brother Zhang’s face turned ashen. He had initially thought Qiongli was in grave danger, but now, their lives hung in her hands too!
Judging by the young man’s imposing demeanor, his words sounded far from an empty threat! Everyone anxiously watched Qiongli, hoping she wouldn’t further provoke the young man.
"Speak up!"
"We’re just going there, isn’t it fine if I just say it!"
"You damn woman, you better not be joking with our lives!"
"..."
People became nervous and cursed. The young man glanced at them mockingly, and Qiongli didn’t dare to promise what he would do, and she couldn’t manage to say a word for a long while.
The young man puzzled her. He could easily kill all of them if he chose to, but if he said otherwise, could he ensure everyone would survive?
Her mind couldn’t help but wonder, would this young man follow her into the zombie horde after he had killed everyone? His face didn’t look like a normal human’s.
Must be some kind of demon disguising itself!
Throughout Qiongli’s hesitation, the young man clearly became impatient. He pulled out a bone whip from somewhere. Everyone could tell at a glance that the whip was evolved from a zombie, which the young man was now using as a weapon.
Simultaneously, the vitality in the young man that initially seemed ordinary, soared rapidly, and he instantly transformed into a Level 1 New Human! Then Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4...!
As he walked towards the crowd, his intense killing intent surged like a raging sea, bearing down on everyone. Just as his power was about to break through to Level 4, Qiongli finally couldn’t hold back anymore!
"We are going to Chenyang 169 Base!"
As soon as these words left her mouth, the young man’s murderous aura and surging power were retracted almost instantly. He turned to face Qiongli with a bright smile on his face.
"Ah ha, what a coincidence, I’m also heading towards that... What’s the name of the base again?"
"Chenyang 169 Base..."
Qiongli’s face twitched. How could this guy be so shameless? He didn’t even remember the name of the place he was planning to go to?
"Right, right, right, I’m heading to Chenyang 169 Base! Let’s get moving."
The surrounding atmosphere lightened considerably with the young man’s change of attitude. Everyone sighed in relief, shooting guilty looks at Qiongli for the harsh words they had just moments ago thrown at her. They feared that Qiongli might hold a grudge because of that.
She didn’t mind what these people had said. Giving the young man a solemn look, her thoughts were interrupted by Nannan’s sudden cries. "Daddy! I want daddy! Daddy doesn’t want me anymore... Ah Fu isn’t here either. They’ve all abandoned Nannan!"
Qiongli hurried over to comfort her, and the young man also looked at Nannan in her arms. His eyes were filled with complex emotions. He seemed to want to say something but didn’t dare to. He turned his gaze away instead.
This gentle foreign woman seemed to have a magical soothing power. The crying Nannan was quickly comforted by her, and at that moment, the young man said something rather odd to Qiongli.
"This child seems to be quite troublesome..."
"She’s very cute, isn’t she?" Qiongli replied, caressing Nannan’s face as she fell asleep.
"Aren’t you worried that she’ll cause you trouble? You’d be better off throwing her away. She doesn’t seem like she’s your own child."
Qiongli frowned, her eyes filled with disgust as she looked at the young man. How could he be similar to Brother Zhang?
PS: Dear readers, the story will diverge from here with two paths. The first one will be from the perspective of the protagonist’s main body in Qinshan Base’s development process. The second from the perspective of the protagonist’s clone. Both paths will have their own exciting moments. If we choose the first one, we’ll see additional characters appearing around the protagonist later, and I’ll breeze over how they got there. The second path skips over the development at Qinshan Base, glossing over the details and focusing solely on the main plot.
I won’t spoil anything, both paths have climaxes. Honestly, I’d regret missing out on either side, but I’m too lazy to write so much.
If you choose the first path, comment with 1. If you choose the second path, comment with 2. If you want me to write both, comment with 3!
Thank you for being here. Even though writing can make real good money, I’m still so grateful! Hehe(* / ∇\ *)
