Chapter 486: Chapter 483: The Abandoned Baby Girl_1

Qiongli held a military blade, motioning it towards a zombie’s body. Oddly enough, the zombie simply growled at her, glanced her way, and then turned its head back around. It didn’t display the usual murderous intent upon seeing humans.

"These zombies are really not attacking people."

The people looked at each other, rather puzzled.

The position of the zombies was very chaotic. Everyone tiptoed to see the somewhat sparse group of zombies which eventually condensed in the distance, forming a black sea of heads.

At the center of the zombie pack where it was most dense, there appeared to be a strange, circular, zombie-free zone, this caused them to be curious.

"What’s wrong with them?" someone doubted.

Qiongli cautiously stepped into the midst of the zombie crowd. The zombies only moved their bodies upon noticing her presence, but didn’t exhibit their typical brutality.

This feeling was very strange, even Qiongli herself couldn’t explain it. She felt these zombies held no intent to kill.

"They are harmless, let’s keep going." Qiongli said.

"Could it be a trap?" someone else speculated.

"Regardless if it’s a trap, we can’t go back now. Aren’t you all feeling uncomfortable?"

A middle-aged woman, scratching her arm, announced this. No sooner did the words leave her mouth, everyone was shocked. Only now did they realize every inch of their skin carried a burning sensation along with minor aches and itches.

This was a sign of radiation absorption.

Looking back at the vanished Lin City, they experienced an indescribable sorrow. They had spent nearly their entire lives there, only for it to be destroyed because of a Zombie King, all while the United District sacrificed all of their lives in vain.

If it wasn’t for the mysterious man’s announcements placed all over Lin City, they would already have turned into ashes, blown away by the wind.

"Yes, let’s quickly leave this place." Brother Zhang also spoke for the first time. He wasn’t sure if as a Level 3 New Human he could endure radiation, but the descriptions of the dangers of radiation in books still made him feel instinctively scared.

"Let’s go then. I wonder what’s in the middle of the zombie crowd."

Qiongli, also curious, was the first to head towards the zombie crowd. People, with trepidation, followed closely behind. Every time they passed a Level 3 or Level 2 zombie, their hearts beat right up into their throats.

Fortunately, none of the zombies along the way attacked, and let them thread their way through the population.

But inevitably, someone has to push their luck. When seeing that the zombies didn’t initiate attacks, a reckless man sliced at a Level 3 zombie with his knife. But as soon as the blade landed on the zombie’s neck, countless other zombies went into a frenzy, tearing him into pieces before returning to their original spots, not attacking anyone else.

An appropriate lesson for him in his next life.

The people also understood; these zombies were not harmless. They attacked those showing hostile intent.

Upon nearing the center of the zombie population, the tense people began to hear the crying of a baby girl. The direction from which the cries were coming from was within the ring created by the zombies!

"There’s a child! Over there!"

"How can there be a child over there?"

"Go and have a look."

"Look at what, we just managed to get rid of a bunch of dead weight and now we need to add another burden!"

One of Brother Zhang’s followers complained, but as soon as the words left his mouth, countless people glared at him.

"What did you say?"

Brother Zhang frowned, glaring menacingly at his follower who had spoken out of turn, and then looked at Qiongli: "What... overflowing with maternal love again?"

"That’s none of your business! If you’re not happy then you and your men can leave!"

Qiongli, too, was angry. Murderous intent flashed in her eyes as she pointed the blade at the man.

Brother Zhang was speechless. Qiongli ignored him and continued to push her way into the zombies. Coming to where the zombies were gathered she saw Nannan, left by others on the ground. Nannan was rolling on the ground, sobbing and crying out for her "daddy".

"Little one, how did you end up here?" Qiongli stepped forward to pick her up, gently asking. When she looked up, she noticed that all zombies had their eyes fixed on Nannan.

"Daddy... Daddy’s not here anymore, he doesn’t want me anymore! Wah~"

"Who’s your daddy?" Qiongli asked, but Nannan didn’t respond and continued to cry. She didn’t even know what her father’s name was.

Some hostility arose in Qiongli’s heart. She felt that the man responsible for leaving his own flesh and blood must be a heartless individual, but what puzzled her was why would they leave the child amongst a horde of zombies?

And these zombies were also behaving rather strangely.

There were at least a few thousand zombies here, half of which were evolved ones. Qiongli wrapped her nylon jacket around Nannan, knowing that they had to get out soon. Despite that these zombies for some reason didn’t attack people proactively, they still posed a threat since they eat humans.

It was too dangerous to be around them!

"Let’s keep moving."

Qiongli led the people to swiftly break through the horde of zombies, trying to comfort Nannan and stop her crying.

Brother Zhang, watching Qiongli with Nannan, got pissed off and sliced off a random zombie’s head with his knife as a result. This action triggered the horde of zombies, all of them roaring and lunging towards him. They opened their mouth wide, ripping off a chunk of flesh in the process.

Brother Zhang started, and began to sprint. He was unsure why, but the zombies were no longer only attacking the ones that provoked them, but initiating their attacks on everyone else!

Roar!!

"Run!"

People were frightened. Those trying to get away from the zombies were running at unprecedented speeds!

Just a moment ago, the zombie crowd was so peaceful and quiet, but now they could feel murderous auras coming from the zombies!

Within the horde, the sole Level 4 zombie let out a mighty roar after Nannan was taken away. It leaped almost ten meters high then plunged into the crowd, unleashing a massacre!

"Help me... Ah~"

"Run! Run faster... Damn zombies, I’m going to fight you!"

Within the blink of an eye, the number of survivors dwindled from two hundred down to less than one hundred. Many were overwhelmed with sorrow and anger, abandoning their fear for life and fighting back against the zombies.

Brother Zhang, in an attempt to escape, shoved people who were blocking his way, then managed to catch up to Qiongli.

The zombies were in pursuit, people ran, this lasted for more than ten minutes before they finally stopped in front of a tunnel. The zombies, one by one, receded.

"What happened to them now?" Someone wondered in between pants.

Qiongli frowned, watching the zombies leave. The zombies chasing until this point then stopping deviated from their usual habits.

If a zombie is treated as a wild beast, it would only stop chasing its prey when the prey enters a territory that’s occupied by a creature far more terrifying!
