Chapter 472: Chapter 469: The Red Gates Stink of Meat and Wine_1
In less than an hour, all the active members of the Demon Claw Mercenary Group were exterminated, sparing only some innocents. Afterwards, the people of Shiwuguan Base began to clean up the supplies. They discovered just how well equipped the mercenaries had been.
Impressively, the total assets of the Demon Claw Mercenary Group could rival those of the entire Shiwuguan Base— notably including production lines for the Leiguang-29 assault rifles and No.77 handguns. This served as a pleasant surprise for Tang Ye; with these production lines, Shiwuguan Base could stop worrying about running out of bullets and ensure everyone had a gun.
However, Chen Chaoyang soon informed him of a catch: the necessary raw materials and mining areas. Going through the negotiations and understanding of the Demon Claw Mercenary Group, he realized that, despite the chaos in the Qinshan Base, most of the raw materials and ores are still controlled by Li Songhua. To get the production lines running again, they would need their own mining area. As for how to get one, it seemed to confirm what Ah Fu had said.
They would simply have to take it by force.
Everything they needed was firmly controlled by the dominant party. Although Li Songhua was a lackey of Jin Liudong, he oversaw an alarming amount of destructive weapons. Given his endless production, it was likely Qinshan Base’s reserves had largely been restored. Even if not completely replenished, they would certainly have at least half.
Human technology’s might far outpaces what New Humans can withstand. This is why a Level 1 New Human like Li Songhua could sit at the very top, unchallenged.
Level 3 New Humans are indeed powerful, but they haven’t yet surpassed the bounds of humanity. They can’t withstand the relentless assault of machine guns and artillery, despite not being zombies!
Neglecting everything else, their two production lines were worth hundreds of Yajin, and the Demon Claw Mercenary Group had amassed a fortune amounting to several thousand Yajin. Ah Fu even found a few plates of half-eaten roast chicken in Zhou Kaicheng’s quarters.
It was a stark contrast to the struggle of common people trading their lives for a slice of dark bread, while in the rooms of New Humans’, food was abundant. Their scraps would be enough to drive the outside world into madness.
After a few hours of cleanup, Tang Ye and his men declared the location their first outpost in the Qinshan Base. During this time, news of the establishment of the Peace Party was spreading rapidly throughout the base.
In the tower where the dominant power of Qinshan Base was situated, Li Songhua sat in a lavish hall, scrutinizing a report with a furrowed brow.
This grand hall was decorated similarly to an ancient royal palace. After his own betrayal led to the demise of Chen Huaijiang, Li Songhua ascended to the position of leader of the Qinshan Base. Despite still being controlled by others, he was satisfied.
His ambition was for this kind of life—a luxurious lifestyle he dare not even dream of before the Apocalypse!
Like an emperor, he controlled the life and death of everyone in Qinshan Base.
In the past, he had enjoyed sitting on this throne. Sitting there, he could feel his ambitions gradually stirring, not unlike a person whose monthly salary slowly rises from two thousand to three thousand, and then five thousand. Would they be satisfied?
No, they wouldn’t! Human ambition only grows stronger and cannot be stopped. Once a person gets accustomed to a certain level, they crave the thrill of achieving a higher level.
His monthly salary increased every month. At first, he hoped his salary would reach five thousand, but eventually, he aspired to ten thousand, even a hundred thousand! He was comfortable with his steadily rising salary. Furthermore, he could not bear the thought of his salary reducing or stagnating.
This is ambition. As it grows, it entangles its host, making it impossible for them to break free.
At this moment, he had already fantasized numerous times about breaking free from Jin Liudong to seize complete control. Despite the reality of the situation, he still indulged in his daydreaming.
In the past, he used to sit on the throne, envisioning his future life. But today, the report his subordinate had brought distracted him from his fantasies.
"Level 6 New Humans..."
He lifted his head to gaze at the pitch-black night sky. His eyes mirrored the darkness and heaviness of the sky, radiating deep fear. A white-haired Zombie King, possibly a Level 6, had just appeared in Lin City. He had been fearing the sudden appearance of the Zombie King, but now, he was more afraid of humans.
He knew fully well the state of Qinshan Base. Two terrifying Level 6 New Humans had entered this place. If they had any ambitions, his life would hang in the balance of their whims and desires.
Under the law of the jungle, the situation was brutal. If Jin Liudong found out about the two Level 6 New Humans in Qinshan Base, he might not only stop protecting him, he might even start considering whether to abandon Qinshan Base entirely.
At this thought, Li Songhua grew restless. After pondering over it repeatedly, a resolute decision flashed in his eyes.
"No, natural evolution is too slow. I must accelerate!"
Determination flashed in Li Songhua’s eyes. The emergence of two Level 6 New Humans had genuinely stunned him. As it stood, being the base leader and having Jin Liudong of Pingnan Base backing him, he should have as many resources as he desired. Yet, he was still only a Level 1 New Human.
The reason was simple. Although a Level 1 New Human could consume a Level 2 Evolution Crystal Core to evolve, evolution by unnatural means always had its drawbacks. Consuming an Evolution Crystal Core before reaching Level 3 New Human could cause some damage to the brain, reducing reaction speed, logical thinking abilities, and other functions.
A naturally-evolved Level 2 New Human could memorize a novel of several tens of thousands of words word-for-word in just an hour. In contrast, an ordinary person would need half a day or even a whole day to achieve the same feat, even if they used the most effective methods. Such was the difference!
Although Level 1 New Humans possess increased intelligence, the increase isn’t significant. Humans stand at the top of the food chain primarily due to their brain development. This is also the case for zombies; their evolution isn’t so much about physical strength as much as it is about their brains. As a zombie’s level rises, their intelligence gradually surges to become on par with, and eventually surpass, humans.
Anti-life matter targets the structure of the human brain the moment it invades a human body, a fact that is highly perplexing.
Similarly, New Humans, even though they evolve due to anti-life matter, are not composed entirely of anti-life matter like zombies. They merely absorb it to enhance their cells after developing resistance against it. Ultimately, the anti-life matter still affects the human body.
Only when a New Human evolves to Level 3, does their cell structure undergo a significant transformation, which in turn, spares them from these adverse effects to a certain extent.
