Chapter 443: Chapter 440: We Come to Find the Zombie King_1

"Mr. Chen, the helicopter’s already dipping its nose. The main shaft and central joint shaft must have been bent by the explosion; it won’t fly much longer. It’s going down!"

"How much longer can it fly?"

"I don’t know, but the way things are going, it might explode in the sky, and none of us will survive!"

"Damn it!"

Chen Chaoyang pounded his fist on the dashboard, watching the white smoke pouring out of the helicopter. His anger was palpable.

Since they had taken off in this armed helicopter from Qinshan Base, they were tracked by the Qinshan Army. The shelling had come as if money were no object. How could they possibly escape unharmed? Thus, prior to their escape, they had been hit by several shells. The damage wasn’t bad enough to cause an immediate crash, but it wouldn’t support a long flight.

The smoking helicopter rocked back and forth in the night sky, looking as if it might fall at any moment. Even the rotor blades were tilted. Chen Chaoyang sensed danger but had no idea what to do next. They had now arrived downtown Lin City, a place swarming with zombies. Below them lay pitch darkness, who knew how many zombies there were.

Notoriously, zombies have heightened light sensitivity in the dark, so he dared not let Li Xiaoyan turn on the helicopter’s searchlight. That was just common sense.

The only spilled light came from scattered stars and the moon, but it was not enough. He didn’t know whether there was any flat space on top of the building. As Chen Chaoyang grew increasingly frantic, Li Xiaoyan seemed to spot something, pointing to the ground in the distance saying, "Mr. Chen, look!"

Chen Chaoyang looked in the direction Li Xiaoyan was pointing, and saw several rays of light flashing on a dark part of the street. The faint light from these beams even cast shadows behind them.

From a distance, those shadows seemed to face him, causing Chen Chaoyang to feel an uncomfortable tightness in his chest and frown inadvertently.

There should be no zombies below; those beams of light must be coming from flashlights. Zombies can’t handle flashlights, so the conclusion was that a crowd of humans were below!

Discovering their own kind should have been a reason to rejoice. Yet, among the four people in the cockpit excluding Liang Hanyang, none seemed to exude any hint of joy. Because in the apocalypse, what’s most terrifying is not the zombies, but other human beings!

In the apocalypse, trust is the last thing you could have in people!

Spotting that group of people below made an already hesitant Chen Chaoyang even more indecisive. He kept hovering in the air.

"What should we do?"

"Be prepared. If things go south, we take them down!"

Unconsciously, Yan Jie and Li Xiaoyan began to follow Chen Chaoyang’s instructions obediently. Being rich and educated far beyond the average person broadens the horizon immeasurably and instills a greater degree of control over life than most millennials. Such was the case with Chen Chaoyang.

Having lost the protection of his forebears, he was maturing. His father, Chen Huaijiang, provided not only the identity of a second-generation government official but also taught him ways to confront adversity!

"Can we fly a little further?"

"No, it’s already smoking black."

The helicopter started shaking violently. Seeing the smoke turn from white to black, Chen Chaoyang realized the severity of the situation.

There seemed to be quite a few people below and they were too far away from the ground for Chen Chaoyang and his team to determine whether or not there were any evolved humans among the crowd. If any were more robust than they were, that could spell danger. However, it’s not every day that a Level 3 New Human emerges. After thinking for a while, Chen Chaoyang commanded them to land. If the people below dared entertain any crooked ideas, they’ll need to get ready for a fight!

On the ground, Tang Ye squinted up at the descending helicopter that was billowing with thick black smoke. When the helicopter was still about ten meters off the ground, he had people surround the area where it was about to land.

Crash!

The moment the helicopter hit the ground, it jolted violently, as if gravity had suddenly increased. Impacting with a crash, the metallic body of the helicopter shook hard. The rotor blades tilted to one side, crashing onto the ground with a clatter.

"Cough, cough."

Seemingly as a response to some trigger, a large cloud of white smoke was ejected from inside the helicopter. Chen Chaoyang and his team coughed, kicked open the door, and jumped out, warily focusing their eyes on the man leading the crowd—Tang Ye.

Upon seeing the people inside the helicopter, Tang Ye was taken aback— he thought he was seeing things.

"How is it them?"

"Who are you?" Xu Haishui coldly demanded from the side.

Before Chen Chaoyang and his companions could respond, Tang Ye pushed Xu Haishui behind him, sizing up the four, particularly the little girl. He gave her a longer look.

When Tang Ye’s eyes passed over her, Liang Hanyang felt a chill rise from her heart. The creature inside her stirred, roaring non-stop. It was afraid!

Danger!

Whether the creature or she herself, the word "Danger" dominated their thoughts. Her face wore a look of terror. She had evolved into a New Human on the second day of the apocalypse and since entering the Human Base, she had never felt a sense of danger from anyone. But today, she felt it from Tang Ye. It was a shock to her soul!

A Level 5 New Human, a mind reader, possesses intelligence far beyond ordinary people. This is why, despite being only 11 years old, she exhibits a maturity not consistent with her age. She didn’t know why she was scared, but also didn’t believe that any human had evolved to Level 6!

You should know that at the Survivor Base, even a Level 4 was considered legendary, let alone a Level 5?

"Why did you come here?"

Chen Chaoyang and the others watched the people around them warily, particularly Tang Ye. Tang Ye’s energy was so potent it was hair-raising, leaving Chen Chaoyang, Yan Jie and Li Xiaoyan shocked and terrified. Just when they could no longer grow more apprehensive, Tang Ye suddenly asked this.

"Huh?"

"Why we are here? ... You know us?"

Tang Ye smiled, pointing at Chen Chaoyang and said, "You are Chen Chaoyang, he is Li Xiaoyan, and that one is Yan Jie, isn’t it?"

The three were dumbstruck. They had no idea when a possible Level 5 or higher New Human had gotten to know them.

"You...who exactly are you..."

Chen Chaoyang closely examined Tang Ye’s face, trying hard to recall any impression of him. Upon examination, he did find some familiarity— wasn’t this the creature that looked like a zombie? The only difference was that it had taken human form. Chen Chaoyang was astounded but hesitant to confirm his suspicion.

Could zombies evolve into humans?

Zombies weren’t a part of any life form; they were dead creatures. Perhaps some zombies could evolve to look like humans, but their energy can’t fool anyone!

"You’ve guessed it, haven’t you?" Tang Ye chuckled lightly.

"Indeed, you are actually Tang..."

"NONONO, my name is Li Henian."

"Huh? I don’t recognize the name."

"You will in a while, but first tell me, why did you come to Lin City?" Tang Ye wasn’t interested in chitchatting with Chen Chaoyang; he cut straight to the chase.

He hesitated for a moment, realizing none of them could get anything good out of this person claiming to be Li Henian. He glanced at the little girl who was also looking anxious. Apparently, this man was even more formidable than she!

"We came to find the Zombie King."
