Chapter 378: Chapter 375 Under Surveillance _1
Rustle rustle rustle...
While walking and kicking fallen leaves, Tang Ye stooped to look at the ground where two leaves had fallen together, but saw nothing. The towering trees were so tall that their crowns were entirely obscured by fog. This struck Tang Ye as odd. If the sky above was clear and starry, where did this fog come from?
More than that, the fog was so dense it obscured everything beneath the tree completely.
"I should be able to get out. I can’t be stuck here forever," he declared.
Even though he was only trapped for one day, Tang Ye tried to comfort himself, attempting to prevent his mindset from controlling him.
But just as he straightened his back and retracted his head, he suddenly felt an intense sensation of being watched!
Tang Ye’s hair stood on end. He frantically glanced around but saw nothing. Yet, this only heightened his sense of unease. This was strange. It was so intense that even he, a Level 5 zombie, was affected?
His instinct told him that whoever or whatever was observing him was not to be trifled with!
Ah Fu seemed to sense something too. It looked around anxiously, every muscle in its body tense. A display of powerful collective assesment, with his guard raised. It felt like it and its master were being watched by a formidable entity!
"Who could it be?"
Tang Ye muttered to himself, squinting his eyes, flexing his huge mouth, and inhaling the surrounding air sharply, trying to get a sense of what he wanted.
After sniffing for a while, his brows furrowed.
"No life energy? That can’t be."
Looking down again, the area was all foggy, obscurring his view. He could only make out the faint outline of the forest in the distance. If that entity was indeed watching him, it wouldn’t be able to see him from down there!
"Could it be above?"
He looked up, but saw nothing. This ginormous tree was absurdly tall, with branches crisscrossing atop the crown and forming a dense cluster. A watcher would definitely have their view obstructed.
Tang Ye took a few steps forward, but the feeling of being watched remained. He could feel the watcher’s gaze fixed on him, and interestingly, it did not contain a shred of benevolence!
It was filled with malevolence, as if it wanted to take something away from him!
"What does it want?"
Tang Ye was intrigued but unsure. All his senses came from his extremely potent sixth sense, but the reliability of that was uncertain. Perhaps he was just overthinking.
He had thoroughly scanned his surroundings, both above and below. It was virtually impossible for anyone to be observing him!
Most importantly, he didn’t smell the scent of any formidable lifeforms in the area, just some bird-like evolved creatures residing on this enormous tree.
Besides that, within a kilometer radius, there were no other evolved creatures above Level 4.
The presence that was watching him gave him a deep sense of unease. This suggested just how powerful this unknown entity was. However, Tang Ye wasn’t quite sure about its level of power and didn’t want to make any reckless assumptions.
His ability had a rough range of a kilometer. Maybe the entity’s scent didn’t travel that far, or maybe it had deliberately concealed its scent.
However, as a Level 5 zombie, Tang Ye quickly processed everything. If that entity had indeed concealed its scent despite its immense power, why would it do that?
He could now confirm a few things. Since he couldn’t see it, it too couldn’t see him. But where did this feeling of being watched originate from? Was he just imagining it?
He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination.
Could it be employing an otherworldly method to track his every move?
There were no surveillance cameras around!
As Tang Ye furrowed his brows in thought, a faint wisp of fog floated by. Initially, he didn’t pay it much attention. But after a second, Tang Ye narrowed his eyes and fixed his gaze upon it.
"What is this?"
Tang Ye extended his hand and gave the thin stream of fog a smack, scattered it. The fog was white, but it revealed a streak of black.
"What could this be?"
His intuition told him that the trace of black was unusual. He glanced at the other wisps of fog, only to find that each and every one had a faint trace of black mingled in it. Had he not been deliberately looking for it, he would’ve missed it entirely!
Upon this discovery, Tang Ye felt increasingly uneasy. These wisps of black fog were like devilish eyes, watching him closely. For the first time, Tang Ye, a Level 5 zombie, felt a sense of fear, which wasn’t quite fear. It was an unsettling feeling of wanting to leave this place as soon as possible!
Looking at the darkness below the gigantic tree, Tang Ye hesitated. He wasn’t sure if he should descend and continue searching for a way out.
But having tried many times, he still hadn’t found a solution!
It was his first time craving the daylight this desperately. He had always seen himself as dark and sinister, but now faced with this unknown threat, he felt like a small fish meeting a bigger threat!
He had a peculiar feeling. Zombies were creatures of the dark, but the darkness below didn’t belong to zombies. It felt like it belonged to some other creature. This was a darkness which didn’t accommodate any other dark beings!
The watcher was perhaps not even human!
"Is this a supernatural phenomenon?"
Gazing at the floating black wisp, Tang Ye murmured. The continual anxious grumbles from Ah Fu were starting to annoy him.
He took a deep breath and, with a peculiar shriek, started leading Ah Fu ahead. Whenever he encountered branches, he climbed further up.
But the feeling of being watched didn’t change one bit; it neither augmented nor diminished. It felt like a camera was attached to him, maintaining a specific distance. Wherever he went, the camera followed!
After jumping onto another branch, Tang Ye didn’t even look at the bird nest nestled within the twigs; he stepped on it, crushing the baby birds inside!
He walked carelessly, leaving Ah Fu behind in the process. Once their distance increased, Ah Fu stopped growling anxiously. With wide eyes, it looked around, seeming unfamiliar with its surroundings as if it was pulled out abruptly from a state of caution.
