Chapter 377: Chapter 374: The Inexplicable Weirdness_1
After finishing off that giant deer, Tang Ye and Ah Fu continued forward. When they reached the hillside, sure enough, as before, the giant tree stood before them, while the surrounding forest was veiled in fog.
Tang Ye felt something was off, but he couldn’t pinpoint it. It was as if his mind was devoid of any thoughts during the journey, yet that couldn’t be right either. He felt like there were vague underlying thoughts in his mind that he couldn’t grasp.
How bizarre.
Tang Ye’s face turned sour — he realized he seemed trapped here. Could Xu Haishui and the Pseudo-Dragon be trapped here as well?
He tried to transmit his location to Xu Haishui through his mind, in hopes he would come find him. Xu Haishui and Ah Fu, like him, had formed a type of connection resembling a "contract scroll" - with him being the master and them being the servants.
This "contract" had a unique ability - each party could sense the other’s location.
However, after transmitting the information, Tang Ye was horrified to find he couldn’t discern Xu Haishui’s location - as though he had disappeared into thin air.
No way!
Frustrated, he slammed his fist into a nearby tree-trunk, causing it to explode, showering the area with wood fragments and splitting it cleanly in half.
After calming down slightly, Tang Ye looked around, contemplating the situation.
He’d made three attempts to reach the giant tree, but each time he arrived, he felt as though he’d forgotten something.
This feeling of having forgotten something was very hard to express - it was bewildering.
A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, offering a moment of respite amidst the eerie silence.
After a while, Tang Ye suddenly lifted his head and marched off in a new direction with Ah Fu. Instead of going forward or backward, he went sideways along the hill. However, after a while, he realized it was no use; he was just moving aimlessly.
At his wit’s end, Tang Ye decided to move in the opposite direction, away from the giant tree. But when he reached the tree, it was already pitch dark, and looking up at the moon, his face grew overcast.
Am I really trapped here? Have Xu Haishui and the others also been imprisoned, or have they found a way out?
Recalling how Xu Haishui and the Pseudo-dragon flew off, Tang Ye located the spot they had left from, and stood atop the collapsed slope.
After instructing Ah Fu to wait for him, Tang Ye spread his wings and flew high along the trajectory of Xu Haishui’s path. However, ten minutes later, he landed back at his starting point, leaving Ah Fu looking at him in bewilderment.
F*ck!
Unable to contain his frustration, Tang Ye uprooted a twenty-metre tree and flailed it around wildly in venting his anger.
Before the Apocalypse, he had seen movies similar to his current predicament: people driven insane by getting lost. Who would want to stay in a place like this forever?
Even if this place was beautiful, Tang Ye refused to accept such a fate. If he were to spend a large amount of time here, Ah Fu might be fine, but he would definitely die!
Human brains are different from those of animals because humans have subjective consciousness. We can discern the most suitable or easiest method to carry out a task.
Humans can imagine and dream of actions that don’t exist, then create them. But can animals do the same? No, they can’t.
The power of imagination is key to technological advance. Of course, Tang Ye possesses this power, even though he has turned into an evolved creature.
However, it is exactly because of this imagination that can drive humans insane.
The thoughts inside a human brain are linked to the size of the world in which they exist. For instance, someone who holds a high position will perceive a situation differently than someone in a lower position. They have a broader perspective, also known as having more experience.
Imagination is based on personal worldviews, and it will develop according to the individual understanding of the world. It’s a magical phenomenon. No matter what one is doing, their brain will be thinking about something.
For instance, flying towards the sky, exploring the universe, possessing superpowers. Of course, these are impractical dreams. Practical dreams would include future accomplishments and a better future.
Human thoughts never stop running, except when we are asleep. No one can truly empty their minds of distractions. These distractions, these emotions make us human!
Ultimately, the scale of one’s imagination is dependent on their worldview. The larger the worldview, the broader the imagination. However, when a person’s world is reduced countless times, their imagination will gradually diminish over time.
Over time, when the mind recognizes that the dreams and desires can never be achieved, it will break down.
Tang Ye, being a special evolved creature, retained the thought process of a human being. Although his personality had changed in the course of his transformation, his thinking had remained the same - always ticking over!
Given that, how could Tang Ye be content with being trapped here? He needed to get out, but what drove him mad was that he couldn’t find a way out.
In the grip of his rage, Tang Ye lost all rationality momentarily and furiously pounded the tree he held, splinters flying everywhere.
Watching him, Ah Fu was bewildered. He scratched his face in confusion.
After venting his anger, Tang Ye again calmed himself down. He stared into the boundless forest shrouded in darkness, appearing like monstrous demons hiding within, enough to make one’s skin crawl!
Nighttime was when the carnivorous creatures in the forest hunted. Thus, sporadic wails of evolved creatures and roars of tigers and leopards echoed through the forest.
Hearing these sounds, for some unknown reason, the odd feeling in Tang Ye’s heart grew stronger. But still, he couldn’t grasp it.
It was as if he had lost a certain part of his memory, but couldn’t remember it, it’s too contradicted!
Let’s just make it through this night.
Tang Ye said to Ah Fu. Whether Ah Fu understood or not, Tang Ye spread his wings and flew towards the crown of the towering tree.
Ah Fu scratched his face in confusion, paused for a moment, sweetness flickered in his eyes. He reached out and grabbed a protruding branch of the giant tree, climbing up like a large orangutan. He followed closely behind Tang Ye.
After Tang Ye helped Ah Fu to get onto the tree, he looked at the gigantic branch he was standing on and couldn’t help marvelling.
Could you imagine a branch as wide as a road? And this wasn’t even its widest part!
Picking up a leaf, Tang Ye inspected it carefully, but couldn’t identify what type of leaf it was. The tree had evolved so much that it had lost its original species. The leaves were the size of a grown man’s face, rounded at the front but oddly spiked where it connected to the stem.
The veining on the leaf was complex, with three main veins interlaced with numerous secondary ones, much like the road network on a city map.
