Chapter 315: Chapter 314 Survival Without Emotion_1
"Holy shit, badass!"
Bai Huipeng’s face was filled with surprise and joy as he felt around the military green armor incessantly.
"So this is an armored car, it’s frickin’ dope!"
Bai Huipeng was ecstatic, he had never seen a real armored car before, and now he had the chance to operate this hunk of metal!
Contrary to Bai Huipeng’s joy, Feng Quan looked rather unimpressed, his facial expression rigid, a far cry from his initial eagerness.
Bai Huipeng didn’t pay him any mind, he reached out for the handle and gave it a pull, realizing it was tightly tucked in. His gaze then shifted towards one armored vehicle that was out of line.
The doors of the armored car were wide open, with a layer of dust inside, obviously forgotten for quite some time.
Overjoyed, Bai Huipeng didn’t care about the dust and hopped into the driver’s seat, fiddling with the controls.
"What’s this?"
Click.
"Why nothing happened?"
After pressing a button and seeing no reaction from the vehicle, Bai Huipeng was somewhat disappointed.
"Hey, I can totally figure you out!"
Muttering to himself, Bai Huipeng began to press buttons recklessly, trying to get the armored car moving with his brute force.
However, after trying all the buttons and switches, there was still no reaction.
"Did it run out of gas or something?"
Bai Huipeng was about to get out and check when he saw Feng Quan walking towards him.
"Check there."
He pointed to a spot inside the car.
Bai Huipeng followed his finger and saw a hole in the armor, from which a bundle of wires were visible. He finally understood.
"Freaking hell, it’s broken! I was wondering why this one with its doors wide open hadn’t been taken. So that’s why!"
Swearing, Bai Huipeng looked at the other five armored cars parked here, aside from the one he was in, the other five were all locked shut, impossible to break into.
"Let’s check out other places."
The two wandered around, trying to find a place where ammunition and weapons were stored. They found nothing, but they did run into a lot of zombies.
Finally, they spotted a large tent on a square, made of military-green canvas.
"Let’s check it out."
"See if there’re any zombies around first."
"Alright."
"By the way, where the hell is Xu Haishui?"
"Haven’t seen him." Feng Quan drily replied, causing Bai Huipeng to frown.
"I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you, but you’d better suppress your emotions, or you’re gonna die a pretty ugly death."
Feng Quan stopped in his tracks after hearing that, spinning violently around to face Bai Huipeng, his words chilling, "I’m not you, my heart isn’t nearly as numb as yours!"
"Soft hearted? Are you saying you’re soft hearted? Ha! Do you have any idea what times we’re living in? This is the apocalypse, not a peaceful era! Being soft hearted in no way is a compliment!"
Bai Huipeng’s face immediately turned cold as he shouted back at Feng Quan.
"People without emotions don’t deserve to be called human!"
"But at least a man without emotions can survive!"
Feng Quan stopped speaking, just continued walking forward alone, Bai Huipeng followed behind, the clash leaving a silence between them.
They walked into the huge tent, ignoring the bodies on the floor, their eyes fixating on the massive beast of steel in front of them!
Their gazes followed the thick tracks to the solid barrel above.
"This... this is a tank!"
"Unbelievable." Bai Huipeng was starstruck, never in his wildest dreams did he think he would come across such a war machine.
Coming back to his senses, Bai Huipeng was the first to rush up onto this giant beast.
Click!
The hatch was opened, Bai Huipeng’s expression became even more ecstatic, the tank here wasn’t locked like the armored cars outside!
Seeing Bai Huipeng in the tank, even the typically grumpy Feng Quan couldn’t resist getting into another one. The moment he entered, he saw a skeleton, it startled him at first, but he quickly discarded it when he realized it was dead.
Hum~
A tank roared to life, followed by Bai Huipeng’s triumphant battle cry.
"It’s moving, it’s moving, it’s totally badass!"
Seeing the tank Bai Huipeng entered sway left and right, Feng Quan began fumbling around, and soon found the ignition switch. The entire steel beast started to shudder, producing a rumbling sound.
He moved the joystick and the tracks started moving, bringing the entire tank to life. He was a man who could drive, and although he had never driven a military vehicle before, the basics were easy. The troubling thing was, operating a tank usually needed three people, and he was alone, rendering the massive gun on the top useless.
Just as Feng Quan was being careful, with a loud boom, Bai Huipeng bulldozed one side of the tent and charged out, stopping in front of a military vehicle.
He climbed out, and his gaze returned to the other tanks in the shed, eyes filled with uncontainable excitement.
"One, two, three... eight! Eight tanks! Badass!"
Bai Huipeng trembled with ecstasy, wishing he could claim all these tanks as his own.
At this moment, Feng Quan also crawled out of the tank, an amazed look on his face. However, he was still deeply saddened by the memory of Hu Gui’s death.
"Where on earth is Xu Haishui? We still haven’t run into him."
"What do we do with all these tanks? We can’t possibly drive them all."
"Never mind that Xu Haishui, let’s go back and inform the boss first. We need more people here to move everything."
Feng Quan didn’t answer, he just turned around and walked towards the entrance.
Back on the transport truck, Bai Huipeng checked around before setting off again towards where they had come from.
Not long after they set off, Xu Haishui appeared, a horde of zombies slowly making their way up the street, causing both of their faces to drop.
"This is not going to be easy without that guy."
"What do we do?" Feng Quan’s eyebrows furrowed, it was clear from his gaze that he was not in a good mood.
"Let’s go back. There are tanks inside. We can drive out and ram through them!"
Bai Huipeng’s frenzied eyes envisioned himself crushing and painting the streets red with the zombie mush.
Bai Huipeng’s suggestion was accepted by Feng Quan. He took a quick glance at the zombies coming their way and he carefully turned the truck around. When they reached the entrance, the zombies stopped as though blocked by a force, snarling loudly towards them.
"Let’s go."
They both got back in the tanks and Bai Huipeng, without a second thought, drove straight out. While steering a tank was similar to handling a crane, performing anything beyond basics was difficult.
Bai Huipeng, having operated cranes before, easily handled the controls inside the tank.
