Chapter 308: Chapter 307: Not A Human’s Eyes_1
The woman’s body radiated an erratic aura - fluctuating between frail and vibrant, sometimes radiating the substantial life force of a Level 1 New Human.
Feng Quan couldn’t puzzle out what was going on with her, but he wasn’t afraid. Now, privy to abundant food, he had transformed into a Level 2 New Human. Confronting a Level 1 New Human was like an adult battling a baby for him.
"What are we going to do? Of course, we’re going to take you away. Do you understand? There are rules here. If you want to survive, you must abide by these rules! No matter what you are doing, you cannot kill or rape!"
"Now, since you’ve killed, you’ll have to come with us."
"Will I die?"
The woman asked timidly, her androgynous voice leaving no room for sympathy.
"I don’t know; our boss wants to see you, a good performance might grant you mercy, but if you act poorly, well, your death wouldn’t be pleasant. Now get up and come with us. Or else, I will have to make you!"
With these words, Feng Quan’s tone grew icy, sending shivers down the woman.
Feng Quan got fed up and advanced to help her up, suspecting the woman’s fears were pretense.
"Leave me be, I can do it myself!"
The woman hastily got up, her face etched in terror.
"Let’s...Let’s go."
Feng Quan didn’t waste more words and began to lead her towards Tang Ye’s location.
Crack~
The door was pushed open and in walked Tang Ye, his expressions concealed behind a mask. He casually took a seat in an armchair, eyeing the woman tied up across from him.
His legs crossed, his imposing figure served as a stark contrast to the tiny form sat across from him.
"What’s your name?"
The woman looked up blankly. Spotting Tang Ye, she became petrified, incapable of uttering a word, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Tang Ye frowned in displeasure. He first thought her act to be a sham, but then he saw the unease reflected in her eyes.
This unease was a response to an unidentified thing that had imprinted itself in her pupils!
It marked her lack of trust in this world, breeding revulsion, yet potent enough to cause retreat, much like how a weak person chooses to flee rather than confront a strong one.
Such a look wasn’t something she could fake, at least that’s what Tang Ye believed.
Tang Ye sat still, watching her shake violently until she had calmed down, ready to converse.
After a great while, the woman finally suppressed her fear, reluctantly meeting Tang Ye’s gaze, observing his mask and those strange eyes of his.
"I... I’m called Lu Xiaojie."
"Lu Xiaojie..." Tang Ye echoed her name, his stare stilling on her.
"Do you know why I brought you here?"
"I... I know..."
"If you know, then you should understand that there are rules here that I set. Why did you still break them?" Tang Ye uttered ominously.
Fear flared in Lu Xiaojie once more, prompting her to huddle up instinctively. But tied to the chair as she was, she couldn’t move.
"I...I didn’t know, it wasn’t intentional! Please, don’t kill me! I..."
She began yelling, her eyes laden with the terror of death, but suddenly chilled out, staring blankly at Tang Ye.
"Am I... Am I going to die?"
Tang Ye gazed back silently, eyes devoid of any emotion.
However, Lu Xiaojie saw something strange in his eyes.
While his eyes looked no different than a human’s at first glance, they revealed minimal expression. His eyes were deep, yet that term didn’t do justice to what she saw. That sort of sensation was hard to phrase, hard to describe, at least ’deep gaze’ definitely didn’t serve as a fitting term for his eyes.
Finally, as Lu Xiaojie pondered how to aptly describe Tang Ye’s eyes, a word struck her: abyss.
His eyes were like an abyss, infinitesimally dark and bottomless.
Cordial yet detached, a slight bloodthirst hidden beneath the surface, turbulence restrained under his outward calmness; everything was manifest to her.
In that split moment, she was horrified. These aren’t human eyes. They definitely aren’t human eyes.
These weren’t eyes a human should have.
Through Tang Ye’s pitch-black pupils, she saw a profound whiteness lurking within.
Before Tang Ye could speak, Lu Xiaojie began to struggle like mad. Her disheveled hair fell away, revealing her face - a rather ordinary looking woman, lackluster eyes downgrading her looks to another level.
"No! I need to get out of here, you... you’re too terrifying! I don’t want to see you. I’m leaving!"
Her trembling voice seeped out, and along with her squirming, her strength suddenly burst forth - the binds around her tightening out of the blue.
The rope, made of synthetic fibres and as thick as a pair of chopsticks, couldn’t be broken easily. But in Tang Ye’s eyes, the woman’s aura crested, nearly brushing the upper reaches of a Level 1 New Human, almost reaching the intensity of a Level 2 New Human.
"I need to leave!"
With a roar, Lu Xiaojie, pervaded by fear, summoned her strength. The rope cut into her flesh, prompting her to bleed profusely, turning her into a bloodied figure.
"Ahhhh, I need to leave. You’re too horrifying, I can’t stand seeing you! Let me go!"
Thwack!
Before Tang Ye could raise a finger, Lu Xiaojie snapped the rope binding her, running out like a madwoman, pushing past the guards outside.
"Catch her!"
The guards barked orders to seize Lu Xiaojie. But then, Tang Ye’s voice echoed.
"No need to chase her. Let her go; she won’t be able to escape."
Hearing Tang Ye’s words, the guards instantly ceased their pursuit, casting an eye at Lu Xiaojie’s retreating figure before returning to their posts.
In due course, Tang Ye stepped out, casting a nonchalant glance towards where Lu Xiaojie had fled, then retreated to his room.
The sun soon dipped below the horizon, darkness swiftly blanketing the decaying city. And around the human haven, zombies scattered like tidal waves, as if recoiling from a threatening presence. Roughly three kilometers away, they came to a halt, not a single zombie daring to take a step further.
By then, it was late. Due to tomorrow’s tasks, everyone had retired early for the night to conserve their energy. There was not a single night sentry in sight.
The campsite was eerily deserted, like a ghost town.
Suddenly, a red glow emanated from the south, coupled with a minor tremor. At first, the red glow was faint and small but, as time elapsed, it rapidly spread on both sides, illuminating the southern skies in crimson!
Bang...
