Chapter 305: Chapter 304: Robbery_1
When Xu Haishui returned, it was already evening. Due to Tang Ye’s arrival, the sky above their settlement was free of flying moth zombies, and people were able to come out and chat in the evening. However, their conversations mostly revolved around how they should live the next day.
When they saw Xu Haishui driving a truck packed with zombies, their faces instantly turned grim.
What is happening? More are coming?
This was everyone’s question, but no one could answer them. Xu Haishui drove the truck into a big factory shed where survivors had opened the door, revealing a huge pit inside.
This pit was dug up by Xu Haishui’s orders five days ago. Tang Ye didn’t know what he was planning, but now, Tang Ye was waiting for him on the other side of the pit.
The truck stopped at the entrance. Xu Haishui got down from the vehicle and entered the shed. A few survivors tactfully closed the door of the shed and left, leaving only Tang Ye and Xu Haishui with the zombies.
"What are you doing?"
"Hehe, well, punishing people is simple, no need to specifically throw them to the Bai Cavern, right, boss? They’re all zombies after all, might as well benefit our own kind. Look, I’ve come up with a strategy for you."
Saying this, Xu Haishui opened the cage, commanded the zombies to enter the pit, then said, "In the future, if anyone disobeys, just throw them in here. Isn’t this convenient?"
Tang Ye knew this was the case, but he didn’t feel like listening to Xu Haishui talk about it.
"The special guy you mentioned, you brought him over, right? Let me see."
As expected, Tang Ye would say this, and Xu Haishui was not surprised. Without a word, he opened the passenger door of the truck.
Tang Ye looked inside to see a dark creature crawl out and stand obediently beside Xu Haishui.
The creature stood upright, about 1.8 meters tall. Its body was streamlined, not like it had muscles, but as if someone had installed a shell on it—it could be said to be a shell incarnate!
The hair on its head was messy, occasionally revealing its dark face.
Tang Ye frowned, asking, "Is this the guy?"
Xu Haishui nodded.
"Hmm, don’t underestimate it, I fished it out of the water. It’s a fusion of an electric eel, a snail, and a human!"
Tang Ye glanced at its shell-like muscles, revealing curiosity in his eyes.
"Boss, do you know its ability? It controls electricity! Don’t underestimate this guy’s power. I’ll let it show you something."
Xu Haishui was visibly excited, and commanded the creature in his mind.
The creature slightly lifted its hands, and a bit of electricity flashed between the crevices of its shell-like muscles. Tang Ye stood there, momentarily taken aback.
Snap!
The shed went dark all of a sudden. The lights went out, and Tang Ye immediately understood that this was the zombie’s handiwork.
He looked at Xu Haishui, thinking, "This guy sure knows how to pick minions."
But Xu Haishui continued, "This is a treasure! I’ve already given it a name—Electro-Snail."
"Electro-Snail?"
Tang Ye repeated the name, glanced at Electro-Snail, and left the shed without any further comment.
Seeing Tang Ye seemingly uninterested, Xu Haishui just shrugged and spent the remainder of the time joyfully examining Electro-Snail, curious about its abilities.
"I’ve fed you so much, yet I haven’t seen any evolution... Sigh, what a shame."
After mumbling to himself for a while, Xu Haishui lost interest. He kicked Electro-Snail into the pit, then also left the shed.
In the days that followed, zombies reappeared around the settlement since they were no longer under Tang Ye’s influence. Although their numbers were small, people out searching for resources began to suffer casualties. Their numbers reduced from over 1300 to just over 900 now.
Standing at the highest point, Tang Ye looked down at the busy survivors, frowning. He realized that their decreasing numbers were a problem that needed addressing. He started doubting himself, questioning whether he was leading them toward development or toward slaughter?
Xu Haishui, who had been standing nearby, quickly lost interest. After scouting left and right, he walked towards Dapeng, who was taking care of zombies. On the way, he crossed paths with Xu Changchi. Xu Changchi took a direct glance at him but was not surprised to see this guy, who spent all day with zombies.
Xu Changchi and others even speculated that the ability to drive away zombies might have been a method developed by Xu Haishui.
Who else would keep zombies besides Xu Haishui?
This behavior was truly hard for them to understand.
Xu Changchi cleared his head and, with respect, stood behind Tang Ye, calling him Brother Nian.
Tang Ye took a glance at him, sensing the robust vitality in Xu Changchi- a clear sign that he had evolved to Level 2. He wasn’t surprised and asked, "What is it?"
Xu Changchi, scratching his head, organized his thoughts before speaking up, "Over the past few days, we’ve been out searching for resources. We’ve used up a lot of bullets, and now we are running out. I’ve discussed with a few others and decided to ask you for a solution."
"Oh?" Tang Ye frowned. He had been having a comfortable time in the settlement lately, except for the periodic trips to Zhiyang Lake to check on the Pseudo-dragon. He hadn’t managed any of the settlement’s other affairs.
However, his people had guns and he had not paid attention to their ammo stock. Now that they were out of ammunition, he was a bit perplexed, albeit he didn’t take it seriously.
If they ran out of ammunition, they would just get more. But where to get it from was a problem that wouldn’t stump Tang Ye.
"Where did you get the ammunition before?"
"The previous ammunition was all taken from the police station on Gongbei Avenue, but it’s been completely emptied. If we need more ammunition, we will need to go further away."
"Then go!" Tang Ye directly replied.
"But..." Xu Changchi seemed troubled.
"But what?" Tang Ye was slightly annoyed.
"Going a longer distance could be dangerous. Our people can’t go that far."
This point awakened Tang Ye. He suddenly remembered that he was a zombie and naturally had no fear, but the people under him were humans. Going on a long journey was the equivalent of feeding more meals to the zombies.
After all, in the apocalypse, everything was fraught with danger for humans. Wanting to establish a safe path was as difficult as scaling the heavens!
Tang Ye started to ponder, and after a while, he realized that this was a problem he had to personally deal with. But just as he was about to speak up, Xu Changchi preempted him.
"Boss, I’ve thought of a solution. Would you like to hear it?"
Tang Ye’s eyes flickered, and he grew slightly interested.
"Oh? Let’s hear it."
Xu Changchi mustered his courage and, bending slightly towards Tang Ye, spoke with a resolute look in his eyes.
"Since we’re low on ammunition, and we’ve cleared out the nearby police station’s stock, going further away might not be fruitful as it may already have been taken by other survivor groups. Why don’t we raid those survivor groups instead?"
