Chapter 23: Chapter 23 Holding the Black Cloth_1

Thump! Thump! Thump!

Hu Yayun, who had just entered the house, was taken aback. Before she could react, Lanlan, in front of her, beamed happily and yelled, "Yay! Is Uncle coming over?"

"Alright, Mommy will open the door."

"Okay, good!"

Hu Yayun looked at the joyfully bouncing Lanlan and couldn’t help but smile, she was also a little excited. Now she could see who the person delivering food to them was. She reached out to open the door, only to reveal a ghastly green face!

Ahh!!

She screamed in horror, the fear filling her heart instantly. Lanlan thought her mom was scared by the appearance of Zombie Uncle and wanted to go explain to her, but the next second she saw a completely unfamiliar zombie, she also started to panic!

The green-faced dwarf zombie looked dazed for a moment, surprised to find two people behind the door that was suddenly opened!

Roar!

It lunged at Hu Yayun with its foul-smelling mouth wide open. She stumbled back hurriedly, trying to close the door again! But the zombie that had already seen them wouldn’t allow it. It extended its bone spike, transformed from its hand, and stabbed towards the door. Hu Yayun watched helplessly as the bone spike effortlessly shattered the door. She let go and tried to flee, but on second thought, she glanced at Lanlan and unexpectedly rushed back towards the zombie, trying to grapple it!

Fleeing from danger was a natural human reaction, while the act of grappling the zombie was selfless motherly love in action. There were no other exits in the house. Hu Yayun was a deeply thoughtful person, she knew that with the zombie inside the house, it was impossible for both of them to escape. To allow one person to escape, the other had to pay the price and occupy the zombie. She determinedly sacrificed herself, just so her daughter could live!

"Lanlan! Run!" She shouted at Lanlan. Then she mustered all her strength trying to trip the zombie, assuming that it being small would make it easy to tackle.

However, she soon realized her mistake. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t topple the zombie. Instead, it bit into her shoulder with its disgusting mouth!

Ohh...!

The intense pain hit instantly. She forced herself to look at her daughter, only to see her frozen in place.

"Run! Run..."

But Lanlan was already so frightened that her legs were jelly. She couldn’t move at all. Hu Yayun felt desperate.

Swoosh!

The dwarf zombie ripped a chunk of flesh off her shoulder. She groaned in pain, her eyes locked on Lanlan.

"Run..."

Chewing the flesh in its mouth, the dwarf zombie lifted its gaze towards the petrified Lanlan. Tears were streaming down her face, making her look pitifully small and helpless, but the zombie had no pity. It pushed Hu Yayun, who was clinging to it, away, and started moving towards Lanlan. It seemed to be more attracted to Lanlan’s tender skin.

Seeing this, Hu Yayun instantly knew what it was going to do. She reached out to grab its clothes in a desperate attempt to detain it.

But how could her strength match that of the zombie? It proceeded towards Lanlan, dragging the clinging Hu Yayun along like she was weightless!

Lanlan saw the zombie coming towards her, and her eyes filled with hope!

"You...you’re a good zombie...right?" She asked it in her childish voice!

Hu Yayun was anxious, she exerted all her strength and ripped off the clothes on the dwarf zombie’s chest! However, this couldn’t effectively halt its movement!

When it reached Lanlan, its eyes were brimming with bloodlust, revealing its bloodstained mouth to bite her!

"No!"

Hu Yayun’s scream of anguish echoed, blood splattered from Lanlan’s body...

Tang Ye, carrying a bag full of food, entered the residential complex. He shut the gate behind him and hurried towards the floor where Lanlan and her mother lived. All the way, he felt restless and agitated, as if something terrible had happened!

When he arrived, seeing the open door, his face twisted in rage. He knew something must have happened at Lanlan’s place!

Tang Ye dropped the bag of food and rushed into Lanlan’s house. Upon seeing the two bloody corpses, he felt a rage burning in his heart like an endless flame!

"Who did this?!!!!"

Seeing the gory corpses before him, Tang Ye knew the mother and daughter were as dead as they could be! He rushed over and picked up Lanlan’s corpse.

Roar~ Roar.

Tang Ye attempted to wake Lanlan, but she showed no signs of life, lying quietly in his arms. His eyes were drawn to the child-like drawings on the wall. The pictures showed a shadowy figure carrying two "sticks."

Wasn’t that him? Holding Lanlan’s corpse tighter, he felt a rage unable to be vented, making him nearly go mad!

"Lanlan, Lanlan, Uncle is here. Wake up! Wake up! Tell me! Who did this! Aaahhh!!!"

These were the words he wanted to say from his heart, but being a zombie, his throat couldn’t produce any sound; only an eerie roar could be heard!

Tang Ye’s eyes slowly moistened. A tear fell onto Lanlan, then behind him, Hu Yayun’s corpse began to twitch. Tang Ye looked back in surprise, initially thinking she wasn’t dead. Only later did he realize the truth!

Hu Yayun was convulsing like a patient having a seizure, eventually standing up from the ground. Tang Ye understood. Given her grievous injuries, how could she not have died? She had turned into a zombie.

Tang Ye didn’t mind Hu Yayun too much. He nervously looked at Lanlan, who also began to twitch the next second, just as he had expected. Eventually, she struggled free from Tang Ye and roared at him as if wondering why he was hugging her.

Tang Ye felt heartbroken. Silently, he lifted the crowbar. He couldn’t bear to see Lanlan, the lovely child that she used to be, turning into a mindless zombie. She and her mother were already dead, and letting their corpses roam in this world would be torment!

"I’m sorry..."

Tang Ye murmured in his heart. The crowbar in his hand forcefully crashed down on zombie Lanlan’s head!

Thud!

A muffled sound rang out. Lanlan fell down stiffly. Tang Ye mourned silently for a while before turning towards zombie Hu Yayun.

"Huh?"

Tang Ye saw Hu Yayun’s hand holding a piece of black cloth. Intrigued, he reached out and took the cloth, finding the zombie’s grip to be unusually tight! Tang Ye had to use a lot of strength to tug it free!

"This is... It’s him!!"
