Chapter 199: Chapter 197: You Remind Me of Something - 1
The man let him go when he heard this, and with the little girl in his arms, took a few steps back, and turned to run towards the back!
Even in the midst of Tang Ye’s carnage, even though he did not unleash his anger on these survivors, they were still controlled by their innate fear of zombies, and retreated at all costs.
The eight massive flesh stalks on Tang Ye’s back were, indeed, a formidable sight. Standing erect, they were as tall as a twelve-story building; it would be quite unusual if they weren’t terrifying!
A creature that could transform in such a way couldn’t be a Level 2 zombie - it had to be at least a Level 3 one!
The flesh stalks, at times in the air, and at others on the ground, left the surviving soldiers and the nearby buildings in utter disorder, with gouges torn into the concrete roads everywhere they lashed out.
After disposing of the soldiers, Tang Ye moved towards the crowed that had distanced themselves from him. It wasn’t the people who drew his attention, but the sound of gunfire in the vicinity!
With a massive swarm of zombies following them, a young girl in dungarees stumbled and fell while running. Sitting on the ground, rubbing her painfully sprained ankle, she looked distraught, especially when she saw the terrifying figure of Tang Ye approach, she felt more desperate than ever.
She curled up, her pupils dilated, and silently watched Tang Ye’s arrival.
She was no longer able to walk on her own. In such a perilous situation, without anyone willing to help her, everyone was akin to a clay idol crossing a river - busy ensuring their own safety, they could hardly care about the lives of others.
Tang Ye glanced at her lightly, and this scene seemed familiar to him. Especially when she contracted her body out of fear that reminded him of how Ning Yu’er had done the same when they first met.
Whether deliberately or inadvertently, Tang Ye touched the extremely soft plush elastic band, before focusing his gaze on her again, and walking up to her.
"What’s wrong?"
The young girl was stunned. Wondering if she heard wrong, a zombie—the one who spoke?
She was too scared to open her mouth. The rampage of Tang Ye’s killing spree was still fresh in her mind, and she wasn’t sure whether he might tear her apart at any moment!
"What happened to your foot?"
Tang Ye asked again, she confirmed that the zombie could talk. Nodding, her eyes filled with bewilderment, she didn’t know what he was going to do.
"You reminded me of something, I might be able to help you, would you need it?"
The little girl nodded her head vigorously, just as she was about to say something, one of the flesh stalks from Tang Ye’s back wrapped around her waist, lifting her up and taking her to the platform of a high-rise building before releasing her.
Looking up at her, and her looking back at him, Tang Ye’s eyes flickered momentarily before he dropped his chin, continuing his journey forward without a backward glance.
Staring at Tang Ye’s imposing, bear-like figure retreating into the distance, she waved at him, her mouth moved, but the words "goodbye" were never spoken.
The army of survivors on the street retreated like a tide. The survivors in the back of the pack saw Tang Ye walking towards them, and were nearly scared out of their wits, hastily scrambling through the crowd to get away.
"Don’t push!" Pushing a woman aside, he steadied the little girl in his arms and elbowed his way to the front of the crowd. Looking around, the situation was even more chaotic here than behind him!
The zombies were still rampant, but under the blockade of the soldiers, a vacuum zone was cleared out.
At this point, with zombies attacking from both front and back, the situation was getting more and more dire. The New Human holding the little girl looked around, kicked a gun from the ground into his hand and followed a small group of people into a narrow alley.
Bang!
Just a short while after they entered, the wall next to them was suddenly smashed open by an enormous force, following by a dull sound of a human skull being cracked open!
The wall collapsed in a cascade of rubble, and as the crowd stood there stunned, a horrific roar echoed through the air. A three-meter-tall figure squeezed itself out from the broken wall and roared at the people!
"Damn it, run!"
Seeing another Level 2 zombie appearing, people immediately reacted and turned to run back towards from where they came.
"Damn!"
Cursing inwardly, the New Human quickly retreated with the little girl in his arms. As he exited the alley, he had to dodge a survivor being chased by a zombie. He glanced around to take in the situation, the scene too chaotic to distinguish zombies from humans, so he could only aim for a less crowded area to go to.
"Lulu, Lulu, my child, give me back my child!"
As he entered the crowd, he suddenly heard a joyful voice not far away. Without thinking, he looked in the direction of the sound, spotting a woman rushing towards him crying, all the while shouting the little girl’s name.
"Mama! I’m here!"
The little girl in his arms stretched out her arms towards the woman, also shouting out to her. The New Human soldier holding her immediately realized what was happening, and smiling, he handed over the little girl named Lulu.
The woman ran up to him, didn’t say a word, simply reached out and pulled her daughter into a hug, and without saying a word, she took her and ran.
The good-hearted New Human soldier shook his head awkwardly, preparing to go support his comrades, when unexpectedly, several figures were flung out from his side. They died before they even had the chance to scream in pain!
Following his gaze, he saw the same Level 2 zombie that had broken out from the wall not too far away. Its body was soaked with blood, and it was holding a partially torn zombie in its hand, periodically taking bites out of it, tearing off large chunks of bloody flesh each time it bit!
Seeing this gave him goosebumps. Level 2 zombies were no easy adversaries, and as a Level 1 New Human, charging forward would mean certain death!
As he moved backward, he saw that the zombie was going straight towards the densest part of the crowd, and directly in the path of the zombie were the little girl named Lulu and her mother.
"No, you two, run!"
He yelled in desperation, pulling out the zombie-slaying knife on his back, just as the crowd ahead started to disperse to the sides, as if something was coming through!
The air suddenly solidified, and he saw a two-meter-tall figure appear in the distance. The figure was bare-chested, flames having burned the lower half of his clothes into ashes. His pair of white eyes was emitting a cold light, and his mouth, nearly split up to his ears, revealed two rows of sharp, triangular teeth gleaming under the setting sun!
The eight massive "Hezi" dragged on the ground behind him, leaving a trail of sticky liquid!
Clearly, those flesh stalks that had been flailing in the air earlier belonged to this particular zombie!
Looking at this zombie, there was a sense of meeting a formidable boss, but it was unclear why it didn’t attack the survivors on the sides.
