"Really? Lanlan is so adorable, everyone loves you!" With a flickering look in her eyes, the woman carried two cans of depleted butane gas into the house.

She looked outside the door, her mind wandering.

"With this impressive man, I should be able to survive longer." The woman let Lanlan sit on the couch and draw, while she took her phone and walked into her own room.

Her phone was down to just three percent battery, only preserved by being switched off most of the time. Now, she was about to make her final call to her husband.

In the past, she always hoped that her husband would pick up and reassure her that he was safe. But now, she felt otherwise. She hoped her husband was in danger, even turned into a zombie!

Her daughter had mentioned the so-called "uncle" who had managed to kill many zombies alone. As she dialed the number saved as ’husband’ on her phone, her heart wavered with fear and anticipation, afraid of someone picking up on the other end.

Beep, beep, beep....

We’re sorry, the person you dialed is not answering; please call again later, thank you....

Feeling a moment of relief, she thought her husband must be in trouble. But even if he wasn’t, how would it matter? Could he be expected to fight off numerous zombies like the man she met?

If he is safe, it’s even better; he had not called them once for several days now!

"My husband, you were not with us when we needed you most. Now, I have no choice but to betray you!" the woman muttered in her mind, as she found an excuse to justify her infidelity.

The world was dangerous now with zombies roaming the streets. She wanted to survive with her daughter and enjoy the things life offered. She wasn’t ready to give up yet.

Perhaps she felt gratitude the first time Tang Ye bought them food, but today, his continuous generosity inspired different feelings in her.

Beep~

The phone she held in her hand powered off completely. She threw it casually onto the bed and walked over to the mirror to examine her figure.

Her name was Hu Yayun, just turned thirty. She was pretty with a well-maintained figure that exuded maturity.

Looking at her reflection, Hu Yayun felt a glimmer of confidence, thinking that if she took the initiative, that ’man’ would surely accept her.

Little did she know, the one bringing food for them was a zombie, the very thing she feared!

Outside the Lianyi supermarket, a small group of people stealthily slipped into the store through the back door.

"Old Zheng, bring the cart over quickly!"

"Alright!" Noticing a zombie in the distance, Zheng Minghui tried to be as quiet as possible while he approached the stack of carts, careful not to alert it.

"Shh... What the hell are you two doing over there? Be careful, if zombies are drawn over, I swear I’ll kill you!" A man with a scar on his face growled.

Zheng Minghui’s heart pounded fearfully at the sight of Scarface, also known as Brother Fan. His real name was Zhu Hongfan, and Zheng Minghui had seen him throw a man from a building into a horde of zombies!

Zheng Minghui carefully pushed the shopping cart, taking extra care not to draw attention and lose his life in the process.

He crouched on the ground, stretched out his hand and pulled a shopping cart to him. Standing up, he quietly pushed the cart back to where his companion Guo Nan was standing.

"Come on!"

"Load it up!" Guo Nan whispered to him. Zheng Minghui was a little unhappy, but he didn’t have a choice since Guo Nan held a higher status in their post-apocalyptic survival team.

He continued to silently load the cart with food items while Guo Nan lit a cigarette and began to enjoy it. They had been living together in a tiny four-story building since the outbreak without being able to enjoy even a simple luxury like a cigarette!

Guo Nan exhaled smoke rings, oblivious to the fact that a zombie quietly moved behind the shelves he leaned on, unnoticed for now.
