Chapter 1596: Chapter 1590: There’s No More Left
The massive impact slammed into Bald Head, making him completely lose control of his body. He was sent flying backward, crashing into a car on the street and crushing it into a dent. However, thanks to the protection of his A-level exoskeleton battle suit, the laser shot only caused his back to ache from the impact. There was no real danger to his life, and as for the area hit by the laser, the suit merely darkened without suffering any significant damage—not even the surface material was worn away!
"What the hell!"
Despite this, the other members were still shocked. They quickly ducked behind a wall, squatting down as they fired back at the people inside the building.
Having been hit by a laser suddenly, Bald Head was unharmed, but his anger flared up. The defensive capabilities of the exoskeleton suit were directly demonstrated before his eyes. He stood up with no fear and charged back into the building, raising his Tianguang weapon to unleash a barrage of chaotic firepower inside. For a moment, the fight inside was relentless, with holes blasted through the walls by lasers.
This was an unequal battle. Before long, the opposing side couldn’t hold on. Someone took off their white shirt, tied it to a broken broomstick, and extended it to signal their surrender.
Upon seeing the opponent’s "white flag" signaling surrender, Brother Shi and his team ceased fire. However, their skirmish had already drawn zombies from the street. After clearing out the unlucky zombies, Brother Shi led the group forward.
"Everyone, come out!"
He shouted, and three people promptly ran out from one of the rooms. Shortly after, a woman and a child who appeared to be seven or eight years old also emerged.
The leader of the opposing side, a Level 3 New Human, froze momentarily upon seeing the exoskeleton suits on Brother Shi and his team. Then he asked, "Are you soldiers from the Linhan Corps? Why are you here?"
The sight of the advanced exoskeleton suits made the Level 3 New Human’s face display a mix of shock and bewilderment. Before this encounter, he would never have expected that a few Level 2 New Humans could possess such high-grade equipment. It was like playing a game with low-level characters who hadn’t cleared the tutorial yet—except they’d already spent a fortune to acquire top-tier gear. Totally unfair!
"Doesn’t matter where we came from; toss your weapons over here!" Brother Shi roared. The opposing group hesitated but exchanged glances before throwing their weapons to the feet of Brother Shi and his team. They knew the odds of a successful resistance were practically zero.
They had no choice but to comply.
"Hand over all your food, too! We’ll spare your lives. And that car outside..."
Brother Shi continued speaking, but before he could finish, Bald Head shoved him aside, clearly disgruntled. Bald Head yelled at the five people in front of him, "Which one of you fired the first shot just now?"
The five opponents exchanged uneasy glances, sensing something ominous in Bald Head’s tone.
"What?"
"Someone fired a shot at me when I first came through the door. Who the hell pulled the trigger? Step out now!"
The five individuals stammered nervously. They were seasoned scavengers; they knew admitting guilt could very well lead to a dead end. Who in their right mind would volunteer to die?
Obviously, no one wanted to, but before anyone could protest, one of them was betrayed. As soon as Bald Head finished his interrogation, the other four—including the child—instinctively turned their gaze toward a particular man. This was the same man who had been speaking earlier with Ghost Head.
"I..."
Left with no choice, the man stammered as he tried to confess. However, before he could finish saying a single word, the sound of "wshh" pierced the air. Bald Head raised his Tianguang and unleashed a laser shot at the man without hesitation!
The laser shot through the man’s body without making much noise. By the time the others reacted, a blood hole the size of a grown person’s finger had already appeared in the man’s chest. Bright red blood spilled out as he stared at Bald Head, the one who shot him. Fear lingered in his eyes, but he didn’t even have time for his expression to change before collapsing to the ground.
Three of the remaining four people were visibly shocked, but nobody dared utter a word. The child let out a loud wail and hid behind the woman.
"Damn, that’s what you get for taking the first shot!" Bald Head shouted at the dead man’s corpse. He instinctively tried to spit, but the helmet of the exoskeleton suit blocked the action, forcing him to swallow the saliva back down.
He tucked away his weapon and turned his gaze to the others, continuing Brother Shi’s interrogation. "Whose car is that outside? Give me the keys."
Upon hearing this, the Level 3 New Human’s gaze flickered. He rummaged around in his pocket for a moment, then pulled out a set of keys, separating the car key from the bunch before handing it to Bald Head.
"This one," he said cautiously, while extending the key to Bald Head.
After taking the keys, Bald Head asked again, "That car runs on Yajin, doesn’t it? Hand over all the Yajin you have, or don’t blame me for getting nasty."
The remaining four people didn’t dare utter a word. The Level 3 New Human immediately looked back at his team and said, "Hurry up and search! Give him all the Yajin we’ve got!"
They quickly got to work and eventually produced over twenty pieces of Yajin, which they handed to Bald Head. He weighed them in his hand and smiled. Twenty pieces of Yajin might sound small, but converted to RMB from before the Apocalypse, it was worth around fourteen or fifteen thousand. A single piece of Yajin was enough to fuel a vehicle running on anti-life matter energy for eighty to ninety kilometers. For regular folks, twenty pieces of Yajin was no small fortune!
After pocketing the car keys and Yajin, Bald Head continued, "Now hand over your food!"
They had thought this demand would go as smoothly as before, but unexpectedly, the four people’s faces suddenly turned troubled.
"Sir, please spare us. We don’t have much food left. If you take it, we’ll starve to death!"
"Yeah..."
"Shut up!" Before they could finish begging, Bald Head interrupted them harshly.
"I don’t give a damn! What, you want us to starve instead? I’m not some overly kind person. Hurry up!"
Bald Head’s tone left no room for negotiation. The three adults exchanged glances, and eventually, the Level 3 New Human sighed deeply. Resigned, the woman let go of the child and headed upstairs. A moment later, she came back down holding a small bag of nutrient powder.
Bald Head took the bag, clearly dissatisfied. He glanced back at Brother Shi and his team, sharing silent communication through their eyes before turning to the others with mocking sarcasm.
"This is it?"
"This is all we’ve got! There’s nothing more!"
