Chapter 1590: Chapter 1584: Well Done

With Snapper’s remark, the others glanced at Brother Shi, then at him. No one said a word. Whatever they were thinking was anyone’s guess.

But Brother Shi wasn’t about to indulge Snapper’s behavior and bluntly retorted, "If you regret it, you can go back. No one’s stopping you."

That single statement made Snapper explode on the spot and respond immediately.

"What, I can’t voice my opinion? I’ve been pissed off at you since the beginning. So what if your brother is a Level 6 New Human? Haven’t seen him pulling strings for you!"

"You picking a fight with me now?"

"Oh, what’s this, you don’t like it? How about we settle this with a brawl?"

Snapper showed no fear, sprang up, and displayed clear hostility toward Brother Shi. Yong, who sat nearby pretending to be lost in thought, glanced at them with emotionless eyes. Then, Snapper stepped forward and pushed Yong lightly with his foot. Yong said nothing as Snapper strode directly over to Brother Shi, unaware of a small flash of silver streaking across the skin of his hand when his foot touched Yong’s body. The silver appeared quickly and vanished even faster.

Seeing the tension escalate between the two, Ghost Head quickly stepped between them and said, "Calm down, guys. Let’s talk it out."

"This kid’s been bossing people around all along. Really thinks he’s somebody important, huh?"

"Ha! If you want to leave, do it now. I’m not the one begging you to join me as a deserter. Who do you think you are?"

"Alright, enough of this crap. If you’re going to fight, go ahead. Anyone who steps in becomes my kid!"

Seeing the tension continue to boil, Ghost Head threw up his hands and backed off, leaving the two to their devices.

Snapper glanced at Bald Head on the other side. He remained indifferent, while Crooked Neck seemed lost in his own thoughts, staring at the wrecked car ahead without noticing the commotion.

The two squared off for just under a minute, before both let out low snorts of disdain and backed off. At this moment, Bald Head spoke up, "Everyone, calm down. Fighting among ourselves helps no one. Let’s check out that gas station first."

"Isn’t there zombies over there too?" Snapper, still irritated, replied flippantly.

Bald Head surveyed the surroundings and said, "At least it’s better than that repair shop earlier."

"How’s it any different?"

"There aren’t many buildings nearby, so at least we won’t worry about zombies creeping out from hidden corners overnight."

By chance, Snapper locked eyes with Brother Shi, and both of them let out another cold snort, each unwilling to acknowledge the other. Not long after, the group collectively headed toward the gas station. However, midway there, they suddenly stopped in their tracks.

Exchanging glances, each wore a heavy expression, for what they saw ahead was a big one!

"This is going to be trouble," Ghost Head muttered while scratching his head. In the gas station ahead roamed several zombies, staggering aimlessly. Their clothing was so filthy that its original color was unrecognizable, though the details vaguely hinted at pre-Apocalypse gas station uniforms.

Among these zombies, one stood out. It was over three meters tall, with a massive physique that was glaringly conspicuous among its kind. Flesh fins drooped from its lower jaw and merged with its shoulders, making its neck appear grotesquely swollen—practically non-existent. Its hair had fused into hardened keratin, molded onto its scalp like a grotesque cap.

Due to its evolution, its flesh had either burst through its clothing or intertwined with the scraps of fabric, creating a disturbing mix of mutated flesh and tattered cloth.

Its back bore quill-like bone spikes, reminiscent of a porcupine’s needles—long, sharp, and prominent. Unlike a porcupine, though, this one walked upright like a human. With each lumbering step, its dragging bone spikes scraped against the ground, producing an unsettling "zzz-zzz" sound that grated on the ears.

Having lived through the Apocalypse for so many years, although this group weren’t zombie specialists, they could still tell this was a Level 4 zombie—a real nightmare. Compared to them, mere Level 2 New Humans, even armed with top-notch gear, they couldn’t help but feel a chill of dread.

Some of them had encountered Level 4 zombies before but had very little experience confronting them head-on. Their usual reaction was simply one word: "Run."

"Still... still planning to go? Looks tough to handle," Snapper broke the silence hesitantly, already showing signs of retreat.

Bald Head glanced at the sky. They had no more than ten minutes before darkness completely fell. The night outdoors was the most dangerous time. No one could predict what might pass by—and sleeping in the open was not an option.

"Let’s make a move. If we miss this chance, there won’t be another."

"Alright then... Let’s do it."

The group quickly activated their exoskeletal suits, unlocking their Tianguang systems as they cautiously closed in on the gas station. When they were about a hundred meters away, the Level 4 zombie suddenly took a deep breath and let out a muffled roar. Its massive frame whipped around to face Ghost Head’s group!

It had spotted them!

"Not good—attack!"

There was no turning back. The Level 4 zombie roared again, louder and angrier. The other zombies immediately keyed into its alarm and turned their pallid eyes toward Ghost Head’s crew. They quickly raised their guns, but the Level 4 zombie charged forward with thunderous strides!

The feeling of sheer oppression crushed down on them. Yet before anyone could pull the trigger—"Zap!"—a shot rang out from behind them. A blazing orange-red laser streak ripped through the air with blinding speed, too quick for anyone to fully trace its path. In the next moment, the back of the Level 4 zombie’s head erupted with a burst of dark yellow liquid, splattering meters away.

Roar~

The Level 4 zombie let out a weak growl, far more subdued than its earlier cries. Then, with a "thud," it collapsed to the ground. The back of its head bore a clean, precise hole!

Ghost Head’s group froze for a second before snapping to attention and directing their gaze toward Yong, who stood in the rear. His hands were raised, holding the Tianguang system. As everyone’s eyes fell on him, he calmly holstered the weapon.

"You did that?" Brother Shi asked, stunned.

Yong didn’t answer directly, speaking in his usual sluggish tone, "I... have good aim..."

"Uh... not... not too bad..."

The group exchanged looks, a silent consensus forming. This Yong wasn’t bluffing. His aim wasn’t just good; it was leagues ahead of theirs—perhaps even exceptional.

"Nicely done!"
