I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 1583 - 1577: Meeting the Right Person

Chapter 1583: Chapter 1577: Meeting the Right Person

The three of them stared intently at the email on the phone, reading every single word carefully. Finally, they slowly raised their heads, glancing at each other, their faces marked by utter shock.

"What the hell... Ghost Head, you’re not lying to me, right?"

"Do I look like I’m joking with you right now?"

"Uh... right, Ghost Head wouldn’t joke about something like this..."

"Say it then."

"Fine, say it!"

At this moment, someone passed by, and Ghost Head quickly switched to a random topic, pretending to chat casually with the group. When the person moved away, the man nicknamed "Bald Head" quickly asked, "Whose phone is this?"

As he spoke, he pointed at Brother Shi, who also turned his gaze toward them.

"Yeah, his brother is a Level 6 New Human in Sanctuary City. This news came from his brother."

"Oh my God, so it’s from him..."

"Let’s go talk then."

Ghost Head patted Bald Head on the shoulder and led the three of them over to Brother Shi.

Brother Shi immediately asked, "So? Do you believe it now?"

"How can you guarantee that this news is accurate? Ghost Head says your brother is a Level 6 New Human, but you also joined the Cold Army. Don’t tell me it was voluntary." Bald Head squinted his eyes as he spoke, his gaze betraying his mistrust. He didn’t believe Brother Shi at all, especially with how young he looked—it made Bald Head suspect he was being played.

Brother Shi, however, responded with a dismissive smirk. "It’s not just my brother in Sanctuary City. Do you honestly think a Level 6 New Human could defy the orders of the Level 8 New Humans above? I was forced into the Cold Army, just like you. If you don’t trust me, fine, go stick with Bai Liang. We’ll find a chance to leave. Do you dare to?"

Bald Head fell silent. What Brother Shi described was essentially a gamble with one’s life. But he wasn’t an idiot—what they were facing now were the Sonic Zombies, the royal-class Zombies. If the Zombie King suddenly emerges, anyone caught in the fight is as good as dead. At this point, the safest choice was to believe even a shred of hope over outright skepticism!

Whether the info on Brother Shi’s phone was real or not didn’t matter.

In the end, Bald Head and the others couldn’t afford to bet against it. In Sanctuary City, their dignity was nearly nonexistent. And wasn’t this all just to survive?

"So what’s your plan?"

"What plan? We’ll find a chance to escape once we reach our destination."

"Man... isn’t that a bit gutsy?" Bald Head and the other two looked stunned, much like Ghost Head had earlier. They’d all heard rumors about what happens to deserters!

"Saying ’skin torn off and bones shattered’ doesn’t even begin to describe it. Yang Xiangfeng, once one of the former overlords, is infamous for his ruthless methods. Definitely not someone to cross."

"Surely you know what happens to deserters, right? Your brother must’ve told you." Snapper spoke softly from the side.

Hmph!

Hearing this, Brother Shi seemed agitated; he let out a cold "hmph" before replying, "I already told Ghost Head earlier—becoming a deserter is better than waiting around to die. Whether the info on my phone is real or fake, deserting is the only slim chance of survival we have. If it’s real, we hit the jackpot. If it’s fake, we still wouldn’t be worse off than now. The choice is yours."

"But being caught would be worse than death..."

"It’s your choice." Brother Shi said this and then stopped caring about Bald Head and the others, closing his eyes and refusing to engage.

The three of them exchanged glances before looking to Ghost Head, who raised his hand, gesturing as if to say, "Your choice. I’m choosing to be a deserter myself."

This put the three of them in a bind. It was a tough decision—becoming a deserter meant never returning to Dangerous Sanctuary City. Yet, they had never imagined leaving it.

Eventually, the three of them returned their gaze to Brother Shi, who was still resting with his eyes closed. Snapper hesitated for a moment and then shook him awake.

Brother Shi opened his eyes and instantly asked, "Decided yet?"

"You make sense. We’ll trust you. But if you’re lying, unless your brother comes to save you, don’t blame us for what happens next."

"Hmph, then let’s see. Let’s test if the info on my phone is fake or not." After saying this, Brother Shi paused, then suddenly turned to Ghost Head, saying, "These three know you. To prevent any shady moves on your part, I need to bring in someone else."

"Wait... isn’t the group getting a little too big? Six people already..."

Ghost Head hesitated, suddenly worrying that too many people would attract attention. He started to say something but stopped halfway.

Understandable, since if the roles were reversed, Ghost Head himself would’ve had the same concern. In the apocalypse, forming teams and alliances is crucial for survival, and with Ghost Head and the three others already familiar, isolating Brother Shi seemed far too easy.

Still, Ghost Head couldn’t be certain such a situation wouldn’t arise...

"Fine, go ahead and bring one more." Snapper had no objections and immediately agreed to Brother Shi’s suggestion.

Brother Shi then stood up, scanning the vehicle’s occupants. He dismissed the clusters of people since recruiting one often meant recruiting a whole group, which wasn’t worth it. The best choice was Yong, who sat on a crate, lost in thought.

Feeling someone’s gaze on him, Yong looked up, locking eyes with Brother Shi.

Eyes met; trust confirmed.

Brother Shi immediately walked towards Yong.

Yong’s face betrayed no emotion. His gaze remained fixed on Brother Shi, causing him to lower his head instinctively, unable to match Yong’s stare. Still, Brother Shi finally reached him.

Brother Shi raised his head again, sizing up Yong. Judging by his appearance, Yong was clearly older than him, but not by much. Because of this, Brother Shi spoke up, "Hey, man, there’s something..."

"Do you... need something?"

Brother Shi hadn’t even finished speaking when Yong interrupted him. He froze for a moment, then smiled and sat next to Yong, taking out his phone. "Take a look at this."

Yong’s expression remained unchanged as his gaze followed Brother Shi’s actions. Brother Shi opened his phone and displayed the contents of the email to Yong, observing his reaction closely.

But this guy... showed nothing. His eyes stayed fixed on the screen, completely still. Brother Shi began to suspect Yong wasn’t actually reading.

Before Brother Shi could say anything, Yong broke the silence. His tone matched his blank expression—listless.

"What is this..."

"Huh?"

The response threw Brother Shi for a loop. Either this guy wasn’t reading, or he didn’t even recognize the characters. Was this a normal reaction?

"Do you know what’s on here?"

"Yes. What’s your next move?"
