Chapter 1569: Chapter 1563: This is a trade, do you understand?
This was a room, but within this room, there were no furnishings; the floor, the ceiling, and all the surrounding walls exuded the texture of blood and flesh.
On the uneven, flesh-like ground were scattered many stones. In addition to the stones, there were random sheets of paper and fragments of plastic. These items were piled haphazardly together, giving the blood-flesh space an utterly chaotic appearance. Amidst the disorder, a person crouched in a corner, their right hand occasionally lifting and falling, producing a rhythmic "thud-thud-thud" sound, as if they were hammering something.
The figure seemed entirely unaware of the "door" being opened or of Tang Ye’s presence outside that door.
This person was Lu Xiaojie. However, compared to the Lu Xiaojie from the Dairya World, this version of her was disheveled, her hair grown so long it reached her knees. Her neck was pitch black, coated with a thick layer of grime, and the grooves on the back of her repeatedly rising and falling hand were filled with dirt. If someone didn’t already know her, they’d never connect her to the Lu Xiaojie from the Dairya World.
But in truth, her current state wasn’t something Tang Ye deliberately caused. After Tang Ye had settled in the Royal Court, he had sent Ah Fu, Song Muyuan, and his first subordinate Level 8 zombie Di Wu back to the United District to search for any remaining survivors. Because Dai Changhao was missing, their return to the Royal Court had this search as its main objective. Although Dai Changhao couldn’t be found, they discovered Lu Xiaojie in a heavily contaminated area of the United District. Not only had she resisted assimilation by the pollutants there, but her body had undergone some strange mutations. Whoever she touched would become grotesquely distorted and eventually die—even low-level zombies weren’t spared. The two twisted silver-armored zombies from earlier were, in fact, shaped by her influence.
Within three days of Ah Fu bringing Lu Xiaojie back, the Royal Court was plagued by numerous deaths and injuries. With no other options, Tang Ye had to lock her in this space. This confined area was only about ten square meters. For anyone else, they would have succumbed to insanity in such a small space, devoured by the dual beasts of solitude and darkness. Yet, she had lived here for over two years!
This, of course, was thanks to the fact that this Lu Xiaojie was no ordinary person. She was more like a perpetually injured wild beast, constantly on edge. If anyone so much as laid eyes on her for a single second, they would be met with her frenzied attack!
She seemed unaffected by solitude and unafraid of the dark. In this environment, she even appeared to find a peculiar sense of peace.
As for the stones, papers, and shredded plastic scattered on the ground, these served as her "toys." When she had nothing else to do, she loved smashing one item against another. The ground was littered with stone fragments that bore proof of her handiwork.
After stepping inside, Tang Ye casually waved his hand in the air. The blood and flesh on the wall behind him began to writhe, and soon, the opening through which he entered transformed back into a seamless wall.
Once the door disappeared, the small space plunged into complete darkness. But in the very next second, the walls, ceiling, and floor began to emit a faint red glow, illuminating everything clearly.
Lu Xiaojie continued her activities, remaining completely indifferent to Tang Ye’s presence.
"You should recognize me. I think I left a deep impression on you, didn’t I?"
Tang Ye directed his voice toward Lu Xiaojie, who had her back to him. However, she still showed no intention of responding. Tang Ye wasn’t one to wait idly for an answer, so he stepped to a nearby wall. On it, the dark-red flesh squirmed, giving rise to strands of meat. These strands intertwined, rapidly forming a chair. Tang Ye plopped down onto it, crossing one leg over the other and interlocking his fingers in front of his abdomen, as he gazed at Lu Xiaojie not far away.
Not bothering to see whether she’d respond to his earlier remark, Tang Ye continued, "You heard what I just said, and you understood it. Not answering doesn’t matter. I thought meeting you would provoke the kind of reaction I imagined. I have to say, your response is quite surprising. Then again, I seem to have forgotten to ask a rather important question. You see, there’s a place you’ve never been to before—or no, perhaps you’ve been there. I wonder if you remember it. In that place, there’s another version of you. Her name is also Lu Xiaojie, and she looks exactly like you."
As Tang Ye spoke, his gaze closely observed Lu Xiaojie for any reaction. As his words ended, there was a faint "crunch" sound—something seemed to crack.
Tang Ye’s eyes narrowed. Could he interpret this as a reaction?
However, Lu Xiaojie showed no visible response. Her right hand, holding a stone, continued to smash it against an object. Finally, the object broke apart under her relentless strikes. Without pausing, she swept away the shattered debris with her other hand, grabbed another intact stone, and resumed her previous actions.
"Alright then, I guess you don’t know."
At this point, Tang Ye spread his hands apart. His right hand reached into his pants pocket and rummaged briefly, soon pulling out a glass-like eyeball. At the same time, Lu Xiaojie seemed to sense something. Her head, which had been hanging low, tilted slightly. A single glowing eye glanced over!
Within that pupil’s depths, a flash of scarlet briefly flickered!
Tang Ye caught sight of the entire scene clearly. It seemed to intrigue him. He muttered, "Oh? You recognize this? Now that’s interesting. What do you say?"
Lu Xiaojie remained silent. She slowly rose to her feet, her filth-covered face confronting Tang Ye. To Tang Ye, her face was hauntingly familiar, yet there was an unfamiliar expression on it—a face that felt as if he were meeting her for the first time.
Standing upright, Lu Xiaojie extended her hand. Her gesture seemed to indicate that she wanted Tang Ye to give her the eyeball.
"You want me to give it to you? Sure. But first, you’ll need to answer a few questions. This is a trade; understand?"
Lu Xiaojie still didn’t speak. She simply stood before Tang Ye, her right palm stretched toward him, her intentions clear.
"Fine, since you’re not speaking, I’ll take it as agreement. There won’t be many questions. Here’s the first: where did you come from?"
Still, Lu Xiaojie gave no answer. But Tang Ye’s questioning seemed to translate, in her mind, as his refusal to hand over the eyeball. Slowly, her body lowered into a crouch, resembling a predator eyeing its prey.
Tang Ye smiled faintly, saying nothing, and simply observed in silence. At the same time, Lu Xiaojie, crouched in her predatory stance, extended her right hand again, demanding the eyeball from him. Tang Ye, however, shook his head and refused her once more.
