Chapter 1527: Chapter 1522: Also a Kind of Training
"No," Tang Ye shook his head.
Bick was somewhat puzzled: "If she’s not your relative, can I assume that the woman you’re looking to find is just a regular friend of yours?"
Tang Ye glanced at Bick, who had a look of expectation on his face, but he didn’t feel the need to hide anything and said directly: "Yes."
"I see, but I’m curious, if she’s just a normal friend, it’s unlikely that a man would take such a big risk to find her, right?"
"You’re overthinking it. My problem is more troublesome than you imagine. I need someone to help me, just like I’m helping you now. To put it simply, I came to a strange place, and I need to leave this strange place, but I need someone familiar with this place to show me the way out," Tang Ye explained.
"Are you referring to Camberlite as the strange place?"
"In a sense, yes."
"Oh~ forgive my ignorance of the profound Chinese language. Can you explain a bit more clearly?"
"No."
"Alright, it seems that your issue is indeed more troublesome than I imagined. I wonder if I can be of any help?"
"Forgive my frankness, but you can’t."
"Okay, I’m not angry."
On their way, Bick and Tang Ye chatted intermittently, and soon Tang Ye saw a cylindrical backpack in the darkness ahead. The backpack was bulging with stuff, but Tang Ye couldn’t see exactly what it contained. Under the backpack, there was a wooden board with a hemp rope tied in the middle. Needless to say, Bick had just been using this hemp rope to drag the wooden board and move the backpack, indicating the contents of the backpack must be very heavy.
Tang Ye’s first thought was that maybe the cylindrical backpack contained a corpse, but he didn’t smell decay or blood, so he dismissed the idea.
"That’s the thing."
"Is it very heavy?"
"It’s way heavier than you imagine," Bick replied. He then jogged over to the cylindrical backpack, untied the hemp rope from the wooden board.
"Wait here for a second, I’ll go grab some more tools," he said to Tang Ye before quickly heading deeper into the sewer.
In no time, Bick was back with another hemp rope in his hand. He tied the two ropes to the ends of the wooden board, and looped them into a circle.
While Bick was busy working, Tang Ye picked up the backpack. It was very heavy, although for Tang Ye it wasn’t much, he could lift ten times as much with just one finger, but for an ordinary person, this was no joke. The combined weight of the items in the backpack could already amount to nearly a thousand pounds!
"What’s inside?" Tang Ye asked.
Bick didn’t hide anything and opened the backpack to show its contents in order to put Tang Ye at ease. There were lots of parts, and apart from some that looked quite large, most were thin, flat iron plates.
"This is...?"
"Where I live now is short on water. These parts are from air conditioners; I need them for making condensation water, like this..." Bick said while picking up an oval-shaped electromechanical part and continued: "This is used for generating electricity. With it, life here will be much more convenient."
"And these iron plates are for...?"
"Ah, you’ll find out later."
Bick gave Tang Ye a mysterious smile without going into specifics. Tang Ye glanced at him and took another serious look at the iron plates. They seemed familiar; he felt like he had encountered them before, but the memory was vague and didn’t come to him immediately. However, soon he remembered the connection with these parts!
These iron plates were parts from modern firearms, similar to those that had fallen out of the weapons he had destroyed previously. However, compared to these, the parts from the destroyed weapons were heavily greased.
Bick certainly didn’t know that Tang Ye had recognized what the parts were for, and he kept it to himself without revealing anything.
"Come, on your side, let’s together pull these damned things up!"
He handed one of the hemp ropes to Tang Ye, obviously asking for help, and although Tang Ye hesitated, he still accepted it and mimicked Bick’s action by draping the looped rope over his shoulder.
"Three, two, one, go!"
After counting three numbers in his poor Chinese, Bick started to pull with effort, dragging the backpack on the wooden board, and Tang Ye had to pretend to exert a great deal of effort to pull the "cargo" behind him along with Bick.
However, Tang Ye underestimated the difficulty of the game of controlling his strength. Either he wouldn’t exert any force at all, or when he did, he’d use too much. To him, the backpack on the wooden board behind him was as light as a piece of cotton, and in dragging it, he could not seem too at ease, and yet he had to appear to be struggling greatly.
They say lifting heavy weights as if they’re light is the mark of an expert, but lifting light weights as if they’re heavy is the mark of a true master, and Tang Ye was now experiencing the latter’s challenging performance. Yet, this seemed to be another form of training. When he met Su Sigui again, who had successfully evolved to Level 9, she didn’t seem to struggle with controlling her explosively increased strength like he had initially after evolving to Level 9. Instead, it seemed she had an understanding of the powers of a Level 9 being that others couldn’t reach as easily.
To effortlessly master the strength gained after evolving to Level 9!
Under Tang Ye’s control, they seemed to be making progress. However, nobody knew better than Bick how much the contents of that backpack weighed. When Tang Ye strained alongside him, Bick felt it was much easier than before!
He glanced at Tang Ye with a strange look in his eyes, as if he was rather satisfied with Tang Ye.
"You’re in good shape. Lifting these things would be hard even for a weightlifter, but your strength is really beyond my expectations."
"Not bad," Tang Ye simply smiled at Bick without saying much.
With their combined efforts, they successfully pulled the backpack filled with parts to the sewer entrance.
"How are you going to get these guys up there?"
Looking at the sewer entrance which was about three meters high, Tang Ye couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity.
"Don’t worry, I have a way. Just untie this and go up first; take these two ropes with you."
After untying the knots from his shoulder, Bick handed the ropes to Tang Ye. He nodded, took the hemp ropes that Bick passed to him, and also untied his own knots. Then he followed Bick’s instructions and climbed up using the ropes connected to the top.
But just as he got out, Tang Ye saw a person approaching from a distance, heading their way!
