Chapter 1479: Chapter 1474: Underestimated Her Importance
Tang Ye threw the three cloth bags, each containing a dead body, into the pit dug by Lu Xiaojie, who then continued to wield the shovel, burying the pit.
"Are you sure Dairya won’t find it?"
"Don’t worry, I’ve been living here for quite some time, and I’m sure that Dairya will not find this place. Plus, I have other places to use. In a few days, I’ll take you there, and these bodies will be gone."
"Why?"
"They’ll be reincarnated, you know. If Dairya can’t find them, she’ll give up. But, there will be three additional shadow graffiti."
Lu Xiaojie pointed to a place even further away, and Tang Ye looked over, but didn’t see even a hair of the shadow graffiti.
Realizing that there was no shadow graffiti, Lu Xiaojie was stunned and in the next second exclaimed in horror, "Crap, I’ve underestimated how much Dairya values you!"
"What do you mean?"
"Don’t ask, just carry me on your back!"
"What are you planning to do?"
"To the recycling station! The sooner the better!"
Before Lu Xiaojie could climb onto Tang Ye’s back, Tang Ye noticed the surroundings getting noisy, with a barrage of howls breaking out in all directions!
The next moment, everything in the distance became hazy and indistinct as if a vast crowd was rushing towards them!
Tang Ye saw clearly that it was a colossal horde of zombies, whose scale was so exaggerated that even Tang Ye, the renowned Zombie King, couldn’t help but feel surprised.
If the previous hordes of zombies could only be described as a tide, then what Tang Ye now witnessed could be described as a tsunami!
In the darkness, an endless swarm of zombies surged, the sheer number of which couldn’t be contained on flat ground. Countless zombies scrambled atop the heads of their own kind, climbing over each other like ants huddling together in danger, their limbs interweaving to form complex and nauseating patterns, especially with their wrinkled, decaying flesh combining.
Shrieks filled the night sky, the zombies stacked too high, and amidst the roaring waves, they soon collapsed with a crash! The following "waves" were even higher than the previous, the immense shadows inching closer and cloaking the area where the two were with a layer of shadow.
All of this happened too fast; Tang Ye was stunned for a few seconds, while Lu Xiaojie, who seemed to have encountered such a situation before and was not surprised, was anxious to take action.
She slapped Tang Ye’s shoulder hard and said, "Stop looking, let’s go!"
"Are you telling me that aside from the ground itself, everything below is filled with zombies? Can Xi River city even hold so many zombies?"
"Forget about that, let’s just go!"
Lu Xiaojie attempted to climb onto Tang Ye’s shoulder, but she struggled for a while without success.
"What are you trying to do?"
"Just wait a second."
Tang Ye watched the avalanche of zombies crazily surging towards them for a while, and took a step forward. Lu Xiaojie hid behind, watching Tang Ye’s back with a puzzled look.
"You’re going to..."
She had barely uttered two words when she noticed that Tang Ye’s originally black hair had started to turn white, leaving her slightly stunned.
"This is..."
Growl~
A low growl emerged from Tang Ye’s mouth as the flesh on his hands and neck began to whiten. His height visibly increased at a noticeable rate, soon towering over Lu Xiaojie by two heads. The skin on his neck, normally flesh-colored, rapidly lost its hue. His thick veins turned black, bulging grotesquely. His whitening hair grew longer, and all of this happened in the blink of an eye.
Just a second before, a bewitchingly handsome young man—now morphed into a five-meter-tall, fearsome human-shaped beast!
His clothes were ripped apart by his suddenly enlarged physique, from which thick black smoke continually billowed out from the neckline, seeming to change the very nature of the ground it touched and evoking an inexplicable sense of desolation.
"What is this!"
Lu Xiaojie was abruptly startled. Just now, she wasn’t sure if it was her illusion; she felt a tendril sprout from the ground, brushing against her shoe. But when she looked down, she saw nothing but bare yellow dirt, despite the rolling black smoke emanating from Tang Ye’s neckline, which had blanketed the ground.
After pondering for a moment, she seemed to realize what Tang Ye was attempting and quickly cautioned: "Hey, stop wasting your energy, it’s useless!"
Tang Ye paid her no mind and walked confidently towards the tsunami-like tide of zombies. When he was about a hundred meters away from the horde, Tang Ye opened his zombie mouth, revealing two rows of ferocious, upside-down, triangular shark teeth!
Perhaps as a result of Tang Ye’s actions, Lu Xiaojie staggered back a few steps, feeling the ground trembling beneath her. This change in sensation altered her expression dramatically.
"Take it easy! You’ll get me killed!"
No sooner had she finished speaking than a deep roar erupted from Tang Ye’s mouth, filled with an intimidating force that rippled through the air as a sonic wave, clearing out the surrounding black smoke. It was the Level 9 Zombie King’s domination over lesser zombies, as if every creature under the heavens was cowed, seemingly bowing before the wind pressure created by the sound waves.
With Tang Ye’s roar, the atmosphere around them became even heavier, pressing down on everyone’s spirits.
Lu Xiaojie humphed, the sudden outburst from Tang Ye seeming to intensify gravity, forcing her to inadvertently lie prone on the ground. The oppression emanating from a higher life form filled her heart with indescribable terror, and perhaps it was in this moment she truly understood what kind of entity she was with.
And indeed, Tang Ye’s formidable deterrence seemed to take effect, as the surging tide of zombies suddenly hesitated, and the ubiquitous roars that filled the sky were notably quieter!
"Scram!"
Standing on level ground, Tang Ye roared at the tsunami-like zombie horde, attempting to control the zombies with psychic chains, but his efforts were in vain, which made him frown.
"It’s no use, they are zombies, but not your kind, they’re fake!"
Lu Xiaojie, behind him, uttered hoarsely, using all her strength. Following her words, the momentarily quieted zombie tide erupted once more with howls, and myriad hands and feet stretched toward them, resuming their advance.
Tang Ye squinted slightly and after a second, he abruptly turned around, picked up Lu Xiaojie, and ran towards where they came from.
"The recycling station, right?"
"Yes..." At this point, Xiaojie was at her last gasp, her frantic heartbeat palpable even to Tang Ye, who was holding her by the collar—a sign of extreme anxiety.
"Didn’t see it coming, huh?"
Struggling to turn her head, Xiaojie managed a smile on her face. To her, Tang Ye’s increasing strength seemed to be more to her benefit?
