Chapter 1437 - 1432: The Young Man is Not Simple
Chapter 1437: Chapter 1432: The Young Man is Not Simple
Tang Ye shook his head, no longer pondering what was so strange about the church. His attention was now fully focused on the last line, as if every word of it was revealing some kind of information to him, but he just couldn’t figure it out. However, come to think of it, the Nightmare Zombie King was quite playful.
As for why he thought so, Tang Ye didn’t know himself; it was just that feeling coming over him again.
Tang Ye squeezed his way through the crowd, and together with a few other men and women who had already received their room cards, he took the elevator to the third floor. There, he found room number seven, swiped the card, and the door opened. Indeed, the bathroom was on the left, well-equipped and, perhaps considering the surprise of both men and women, there was no toilet, only a squatting pit with a urinal next to it, all within reach just two steps in.
There was no odd smell in the air, but rather a faint scent of cleaning agent, which was not in line with the creepy place he had envisioned. He didn’t enter but glanced down the corridor to see bright sunshine streaming through a window. A few lively young men were standing at the staircase entrance chatting and puffing smoke. Besides, he didn’t see anything odd.
He entered the room and closed the door. The position of the bedside was exactly as written on the notice near the front desk downstairs, next to the window. Perhaps because of the pre-apocalyptic atmosphere, Tang Ye instinctively took out his smartphone and glanced at the wall beside him, where the hotel’s WiFi password was displayed.
He typed in the password as shown, only for his phone to display a string of gibberish.
"Alright then."
With no choice, he put down his phone, opened the door, and stepped out. The spirited young men were still there at the staircase entrance. He pretended to just pass by and walked down the stairs. In the moment they brushed past, the young men hadn’t yet reacted, but their phones were already gone!
After snatching their phones, Tang Ye didn’t look back. He walked straight down the stairs and headed outside, returning after a while. It was now past four o’clock, and he arrived at the previously mentioned Caiheng Primary School to find that it had already dismissed the students. It appeared that schools in this world ended an hour earlier than in the pre-apocalyptic world.
Taking out the phones he had smoothly taken from those spirited young men, Tang Ye found they were all the famous Apple brand!
Tang Ye picked out one phone that had not yet gone dark and turned on the other four to check them. Sure enough, they were all locked.
But how could Tang Ye possibly return these phones? Of course not! He placed the darkened phones in a recess in the wall next to him, a move many bystanders saw.
"Whether you can return to your owners is up to their luck."
He muttered to himself before leaving with the remaining phone. However, he noticed that despite placing so many phones so openly in an obvious place, passersby only glanced at them without reaching out to take any.
It wasn’t because they realized Tang Ye was there; those who passed by the wall recess with the phones just seemed shocked for a moment, then quickly moved on.
This was peculiar—people in this world were highly alert to irregularities. In the normal pre-apocalyptic world, not to mention these four or five brand-name phones, even some lesser-quality off-brand phones would not last ten minutes in that spot before someone passing by would make them disappear!
After wandering outside for over ten minutes, the people Tang Ye encountered on the street all began to run, as if they were all desperately trying to get back to someplace.
"Should we find a hotel to stay in if it’s not manageable?"
"Are there any left now? It’s all your fault for running so far for nothing."
"Hey, how much money do you have in your pockets? Can we pool it together?"
"Don’t rush, don’t rush, we still have time."
"Damn it, I don’t want to gamble with my luck!"
"Alright, let’s try over there."
People rushed past him, and Tang Ye could feel their urgency. The guesthouses lining the street were packed with people, especially when the staff mentioned "only a few rooms left" or something similar, it would set the crowd off. Outside a hotel entrance, Tang Ye even saw someone fighting over a room, though no one else was interested in the scuffle, all preoccupied with their own matters.
And all of this, in Tang Ye’s eyes, was incredibly irrational!
"It’s a bit contradictory."
It seemed like something came to him—a fleeting feeling of having forgotten something. Tang Ye could only shake his head and head towards the hotel where he had reserved a room.
When he arrived at the third floor of the hotel, the spirited young men who had been smoking at the staircase entrance were nowhere to be seen. It was then that feeling came over him again, and the thing he should have thought of suddenly hit an indescribable wall.
Swiping the card to his room, the sunlight from the window bathed the earth in a golden splendor, with many tall buildings in the distance reflecting the glow of the sunset, and the sky was stunningly beautiful. If not for the memories in his mind, Tang Ye would have had a hard time believing that there were terrifying things in this world.
The golden afterglow made his room dimly lit, creating a serene, almost tempting atmosphere. However, what spoiled the mood was that from the window on the east side of the bed, the outside world seemed somewhat dim.
Perhaps because of the psychological suggestion from the notice downstairs, Tang Ye felt certain that in some corner of the street below, something strange was stirring!
"Heh."
Tang Ye revealed an inexplicable smirk with a hint of self-mockery. Perhaps this world did have some creepy things, but if it was just about strange creatures appearing at night, he himself was the biggest monster!
He took out the phone from his pocket, the screen still lit. After changing the settings to go dark after thirty minutes of inactivity, he began looking for the search engine on the phone. But after a while, he found that this young man didn’t use Baidu, but UC. He must have scanned over the icon for this app countless times without realizing it was a search tool!
Actually, it wasn’t Tang Ye’s fault; the icons of the apps on this phone had been customized, and the names were so confusing that the quirky, twisted font reminded him of the Martian script popular in the early 2000s.
"Spirited young man, not so simple, huh." Recalling some of the funny skits about UC he saw before the Apocalypse, Tang Ye couldn’t help but chuckle weirdly.
